Next Meeting

We pray everyone had a safe and Happy New Year...and now it’s
time to start back up with some new projects and fresh ideas.

Come join us at our next meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 10th at YFD Station #1 at 7:00 p.m.

If you are unable to attend and have an ideas for the coming year, please contact one of the board members.

December Delights

December was filled with the normal hustle and bustle of the holidays. Lots of time to gather and celebrate with family and friends. Some of us attended the Annual City Christmas Social on Saturday, Dec. 15th held at the Civic Center. The music was great, the food was good and the plates were memorable. A five plate carry was this year’s record.

On Sunday, Dec. 16th we gathered with our families at the West Academy Gym for a day of jumping on trampolines and having a great time. Gale read us The Crippled Lamb and then Santa came for a surprise visit. The kids left the adults alone so I guess it was fun for all the adults too.

Might I add, I did catch Sparky jumping on the trampoline and he had to be rescued from the foam pit. Hope everyone had a great time over the Holidays.

This year’s Ladies Auxiliary Christmas Social was hosted by Gale Fisher. Members gathered for a night of fun and game playing. There was a brutal battle over the christmas ornaments and then we stayed and played a couple of rounds of Bunko. We had such a GREAT TIME….we’ve decided to make it a monthly event!

Christmas Kindness

Tammy Smith and Gale Fisher worked as a team to shop and deliver the gifts to our adopted seniors and to the family we sponsored for the holidays.

Two pre-selected residents of the La Mesa Care Center received gifts of their choice. Our gentleman received hats, a coffee cup, and a sweater. While our lady friend is sporting new slippers and a throw (holiday blanket) to keep her warm.

The single mother and two children were delighted to receive gifts of diapers, wipes, warm clothing, toys, stuffed animals and more….. Sheryl Pineda made a generous donation of cookware to the family, toys for the little ones and a gift certificate to Juliana’s.

Everyone did a GREAT JOB starting with the Taco Roll, which funds these projects. Many thanks to the people behind the scenes who worked so hard to make it all come together.

THANK YOU ALL... for another successful year

Fireman's Muster

The Firemen’s Muster typically held in February each year is going through some changes. As soon as we receive the new information, you will be notified. We will again be manning the food booth during this event. YFDLA shirts are still available and may be purchased at any of our regularly scheduled meetings for $6.50.

Lookin' For The Lucky

We all agreed it was so much fun getting together for a friendly game of Bunko, that we would like to do it each month. So, for the year 2002, YFDLA members will meet on the third Wednesday of each month. This will be a great way to get to know one another, relax, drink some spirits, and maybe even win some cash and prizes.

The calendar will be passed during our January meeting and the host houses will be listed in the February Newsletter.

Anyone wishing to play may contact one of the board members or attend the January 10th meeting for more information

Third Time A Charm

Thanks goes to Tammy Smith for hosting this year’s Basket Brigade. Members stuffed tantalizing treats on trays and in baskets for our “Heroes” on shift. Decorated baskets filled to the brim were delivered to all five stations and communications on both days. An added treat of movie rentals were included for what may be our last year. Ideas have been bouncing around for something new for next year….bring your input to our next meeting and Thanks again to everyone!!!

Member's Moment

January’s spotlight is shining on our third year member, Tammy Smith. Tammy is the mother of three beautiful girls…..Jessica age 10, Ciara age 5, and 13 month old Ema. She is married to “Big Daddy” Charlie, who works as a Captain/Paramedic with C-crew.

Tammy skillfully juggles the girls and their busy schedule, while working part time at the Stone Ridge Church and at Provident One. She is also involved with teaching AWANAS and is the Ambassador for the Chamber of Commerce.

With lots of spare time on her hands, Tammy was able to assist Santa with the selection of gifts, wrap dozens of packages, shop for our Christmas families and play host to the basket brigade. Thanks for all you do!!!
