Out With the Old, In With the New!

On September 10, 2001 a new board was elected to take us into our third year of operation. Before we push on into our new year, I would like to take a moment to recognize these ladies for the great job they did. Previous Officers were Angela Jaynes, Pam Green, Cheri Allen, C.J. Padilla, and Julie Ott.
There were a lot of things accomplished during our second year together. Some of the tasks required an enormous amount of their time and effort to achieve. This year we had a ton of behind the scenes people, members and their families who made that success possible.

We participated in the Fire Chief’s Breakfast, Healthy Kids Day, the Annual Halloween Celebration at Prison Hill, the Firemen’s Muster, and the Saint Patrick’s Day Celebration. Members decorated the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma's Officers Club for the Yuma Fire Department's Centennial Celebration, provided goodies to two families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays, as well as supporting the reading program and the adopt a senior program.

We gathered as a group to roll tacos, make candy flowers, table center pieces, luminaries, and of course our second Annual Goodie Baskets for the New Year. (always a tasty night of fun!)

It takes a lot of people working together to be SUCCESSFUL!

Thanks again goes to Lynn Light who paved the way for all YFDLA Secretaries of the future...She has created and maintained our website with little to no assistance from anyone and with even less recognition. Gee, I hope we can count on you for another year of unselfish sacrifice?

Editor's Note: Of course... *blushes* How could I not? And a very big "Thank You" to the Ladies of the YFDLA for the wonderful gift basket. Did I mention that I really really really LOVE Sun-Ripened Raspberries? LOL. Very nice surprise. I love it!!

Thank You, YFDLA!!

- Lynn

What's In Our Future?

First, I would like to extend my sympathies to any of you who have family or friends involved with the Sept. 11th attacks. Now, more than ever, we should pull together for the family support our organization wishes to provide.
I think we ALL now know it could have been any one of our spouses/significant others taken from us and our families.

Having said that, it is my hope our memberships grow, as well as our relationships with one another. I hope you will plan on renewing your membership of $5.00. First-time members are welcome to join us on Wednesday, Oct. 10th at 7:00 p.m. at YFD Station #1. We would like to have enough in attendance to vote on sending a sizeable check to assist the firefighter’s families in New York.

This year’s Auxiliary has a number of plans and we are already well underway to implementing them. We have a good base that should provide us with the ability to make a significant impact in our community.

From behind the scenes…..at the desk of your secretary

Just like so many of you, I have children, and a schedule requiring some skillful juggling. I volunteered to try my hand at the secretarial position primarily because it can be done in the privacy of my own home. It allows me to hunt and peck at my own pace. If you are a “behind the scenes” individual with limited time and unlimited talents, then you may want to consider joining the ladies auxiliary. The annual fees for this organization is $5.00.

In the next eleven months, I will try my best to keep you informed of all the activities and projects the auxiliary is involved with. If you find something that interests you, feel free to contact any of our officers. Names and numbers are listed at the top of this page. Members are encouraged to attend as many meetings as their schedule will allow.

C.J. Padilla, YFDLA Secretary.
