Be Proud of Our Heritage: Forward

Our colonial ties to Great Britain were severed only through the supreme effort, leadership, talent, dedication, sacrifice, and incredible courage of our Founding Fathers. That our Founding Fathers were fully aware of this is seen in their solemn statement in the Declaration of Independence "...we mutually pledge to each other our Lives our Fortunes and our Sacred Honor".

The eight year Revolutionary War that followed this pledge secured our independence at a price our Founding Fathers were willing to pay: their own Lives and Fortunes. Never in man's history has any society or state created such a fundamental change on such a grand scale. The key to their unparalleled success was their motivation: dedicated service to country and fellow man.

A lifetime of studying, teaching, and speaking left me with a profound feeling of pride in our Founding Fathers; and the desire to share it. The following short biographical sketches resulted. A former student, Carole Rowe, prodded and persuaded me to put them into print. Sons, Dr. David Jaecks and Gerald Jaecks, willingly aided in the demanding task of editing.

The hope is that through this added knowledge we will increase our appreciation of our Founding Fathers and the unmatched system of representative government they created. Hopefully, too, we may see that the approach to our present staggering problems can best be met by following their pattern of service to country and one's fellow man.

Please read on to the first chapter, a biographical essay on George Washington. Enjoy!
