ZACHARY'S BIRTH STORY

At eight weeks gestation, due to bleeding, it was discovered I was carrying twins and one had died. At 15 wks., I started bleeding again, this time with contractions, which continued daily until delivery at 27 wks. 6 days. I was also treated for Group B strept infections several times.

Zac was delivered by an extensive c-section because it was discovered that I had a septate uterus (wall down the middle) and he was "stuck".

Zac's apgars were 2 & 4 (4 after intubated) and struggled his first three days of life.

During the course of 10 wks., Zac had his ups and downs but did as well as expected for a 28 wkr. At the time of discharge the only main concern (other than the usual) was the ASD (atrial septal defect) of his heart. By the age of three, it had self-resolved and surgery was avoided.

At 11 months of age he had surgery to remove a large hemangioma on the back of his neck and tubes placed in his ears. Zac has received language therapy since the age of 2 1/2. His overall health is good and continues to grow despite his picky appetite.

Fall of '98 brings him to 3rd grade, right on time, and is doing well. Some of his favorite things include computers, books, the family mutt - Molly, and his family.

Zac is our first miracle kid and his brother, MaCauley, is our second. MaCauley is a cancer survivor (dx: hepatoblastoma 1/94) and has his own web page. CLICK HERE TO GO TO MAC'S WEBPAGE
