GEORGE/GEORGIO/GIORGIO

In the spring of 1913 in the small town of
Miglionico,Italy,a young man of 22 fell in love. She was
younger and beautiful and she seemed to enjoy his
flirtations. It was going to be a wonderful summer! The world
seemed new and full of promise.Young love and hope and
dreams...until
The girl was the local mayors daughter and she was
engaged to a man of the fathers choice. My grandfathers
coming arund and spoiling his plans didn't sit too well
with the mayor and the story goes that he told my
grandfather to leave the town, leave Italy, or else..

My grandfather not being a stupid man denounced his allegiance to Victor Emmanuel lll King of Italy and arranged for passage on the first ship out of there. On June 25, 1913, aboard the S.S.MOLTKE he sailed from Naples and arrived at the Port of New York July 8 1913. That's the first "family legend". There are a few. However it really did come about only he knows. Perhaps that makes it even more mysterious and fasinating.

Immigration officers upon his arrival to Ellis Island, New York, could not understand his heavy Italian accent and wrote what they heard. Francesco Antonio GEORGIO/GIORGIO became Frank A. George . He was supposed to continue on to an uncle who lived in Amsterdam, New York and work under an apprenticeship, but one look at the New York skyline changed those plans forever. He settled first in East New York then to Brooklyn, New York, went into what was known as The "Rag" business. Later it became the basis for the Garment district and the Notorius Racketts. My grandfather liked being on his own, not under anyones rules he turned down the offers and made a nice business in materials. One night, he dreamed that he met a young Italian girl form Italy, and the next day while working he bumped into her on the sidewalk! He didn't need a lightning bolt to tell him "she" was the one. Fate had intervened. Vita Nina FASULLO .They married, had children and built their life in the new world. The world oped up on Grove St. in Brooklyn. They had 5 children. Donato, Gaetana, Antonino, Frank, and Frances.

Here he is with his parents. Tuff looking crew..Notice the missing ear on Donato. (It was said he lost it due to infection but I believe it was a sign of imprisionment at one time while in Italy.
