INTRODUCTION
Make A Difference is a web site designed to help teens and preteens make a positive difference in their own lives as well as in the lives of others. One way to make a positive difference is to become well informed about the social issues that were listed on the previous page because they may affect you or someone you know. The links included on this web site will provide you with resources on a variety of issues that affect the lives of many young people in today's society. In addition, there are also links for parents who are interested in becoming better educated about these issues.

If you only need the information available from the links found on this web site for homework assignments, that would be great! However, in today's society, there is a strong possibility that you will encounter one or more of the issues listed sometime in your own life. There is even a greater chance that you will know at least one or more individuals who have dealt with some of the issues listed on the previous page.

If you or a friend need assistance in dealing with the situations described in any of the links included on this web site, talk to an adult who can help you -- go to your school counselor, a teacher, parent, doctor, clergy person, licensed mental health practitioner, or an adult friend or relative who can assist you in getting the help that is needed. For immediate assistance, there are also hotline numbers available for you to call.

The links on this web site are provided solely as educational resources to increase your understanding of the issues listed. Please read the disclaimer. The links are not intended to be the solution for solving any of these concerns on your own. Remember, it is not too late to make a positive difference in your own life or the life of someone you know. Seek help if you or someone you know needs assistance in dealing with a crisis or unhealthy situation.

The Make A Difference web site is the result of completing training for Community Plus, Inc.'s Assisting Adolescent Development program. The site was a project created to earn graduate credit for completing the training program in addition to being a method for providing educational resources to students and their parents. Community Plus, Inc. is an organization that unites communities and schools in forming a network used for identifying, intervening, and supporting students who are struggling with various social issues. The goals of the Assisting Adolescent Development Program include: 1) To recognize students who may be experiencing problems with a variety of social issues thus effecting their learning capacity; 2) To assist students and their families with appropriate options to address these issues; and 3) To refer students and their families to assistance within and outside of the school setting.

The name of this web site was inspired by an e-mail message that emphasized the ability for each of us to make a difference in someone else's life. Read You Make A Difference! to find out how you can make a difference.
