| From the Greenock Telegraph 10 December 1889 Fatal Accident In Greenock To-Day A sad fatal accident occured this morning at the Graving Dock on board the barque Brucklay Castle, which is present undergoing an overhaul there. It appears that a quarter before ten o'clock a carpenter named Lachlan Beaton was about to start work after breakfast, and while going along the deck his foot slipped, and he fell into the afterhold - a distance about fifteen feet - his head striking an iron frame at the bottom of the hold. He died shortly afterwards. Deceased, who was about fifty years of age, resided at No. 8 Hope St., where he has left a widow and family, for whom much sympathy is felt in their sudden bereavement. |
