Unii's Cervical Cancer Page
Back in 1995, I was diagnosed with severe cervical dysplasia, it was then found to be carcinoma in situ 4. Cervical dysplasia is a condition in which cells of the cervix of the uterus become dysplastic or abnormal in appearance. In a small percentage of cases, dysplasia can develop into cancer (carcinoma in situ or invasive carcinoma). Dysplasia of the cervix of the uterus is first detected by an abnormal pap smear. Actually, carcinoma in situ 4 is pre-cancerous cells, but it might as well been cancer. It's the last step before cancer actually hits.
Anyway, after many avoidance-like doctor visits, a few PAP smears, a Colposcopy, major anguish and mental strain, I got up the nerve, with David's help, to get the LEEP (Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure) procedure done in February of 1996. I remember that after it was done I had fainted, but I recall seeing the nurse go over, get the smelling salts, etc. Weird!
Anyway, I went to my new GYN just this past few months. I have been having MASSIVE cramps ever since the LEEP was done. I mean, bend over and kill me type of cramps! Give me labor over this crap type of cramps! Apparently, as it turns out, my old Dr. (and I use that terminology LOOSELY!) never told me that there was a possibility of the cervix "healing" over and causing problems. So, after 5+ years, I went to my new GYN, and immediately, she diagnosed the problem with just talking to me. She also visually checked it to verify her theory. My cervix had healed itself shut. The procedure to have this fixed (for a quick fix) was to "pop" the cervix back open with a long plastic apparatus. JOY! After nearly fainting again, and having my period re-start, it felt 1000% better! If the cervix re-heals itself, I will have to go in for a surgical procedure to permanently re-open the cervical opening! Oh the joys of my life!
