no one ever mentioned Open Adoption to me. Looking Back it was the loneliest & most
frightening experience ever....
I have since found an amazing number of resources via the Internet, for Birthmothers.
There are online email Support Groups, Hundreds of Websites & Homepages
dedicated to the experience, struggles, & triumphs of the Birthmothers Journey...
There are Listings of Support Groups in Every state, Registries for those searching,
Chat rooms, Webrings, & you will find many women "out there" & next door to you,
that have "Lived" the same thing & who are coming together to share what they feel &
how they survived, as well as speaking out in the hopes of "Effecting a Change"
in the processes & realities of the Adoption system & Legislation...
There are many stages a Birthmother goes thru, similar to the grief process:
Denial, Depression, Anger, Questioning. Many Birthmothers are "In the Closet" as
far as keeping the secrets of the past "Locked up". Once you begin the journey of Self,
of Openess, you begin to feel more free.
After the Doors have been walked thru, you may find yourself longing to "Know" where
& how your Birthchild is ...Then Searching...Often a Reunion...& hopefully afterwards,
you will continue on to Help others who are just beginning the journey. Helping others to search & becoming more active & outspoken in Adoption Reform issues...
