Great site---never knew there were so many Lumleys around.---I believe grandparents arrived in USA approx. 1890 or thereabouts. Difficult finding info on them.

Hello all of you Lumleys (and friends)! My name is Mike. I live in Copenhagen, Denmark. I´ve not always lived here though. I was born and grew up in the village of Great Lumley in the north east of England. A great place to grow up. It was very interesting to find this site. Lumley Castle, the ld family seat, is a place I know very well. I often came there as a child. My mother worked there preparing medieval banquets for the guests. Today it is a swanky hotel/restaurant used by stars and other people visiting the north east. I have still got f mily living in the village. My sister Jackie and her husband Tom run a public house called The Warriors Arms. The pub (site)is very old and it was used as the courthouse in the dark, murky past. So if anybody visits the village then drop in and say hello o Jackie from me and say that I said that you have to have a drink on the house. I know that there are local historians who frequent the pub who are only too willing to help look into questions from the past(on a voluntary basis). Is there anyone who knows if their family has origins in the village? It could be great to hear from you. Tell me what you know. I look forward to hearing from you. Mike

I DONT KNOW IF THERE IS ANY RELATION BETWEEN YOUR FAMILY AND MINE . MY FAMILY IS FROM GEORGIA. I WAS TOLD THERE WERE ORIGINALLY 7 LUMLEY BROTHERS THAT CAME TO AMERICA AND THEY ALL WENT TO SEPARATE AREAS OF THE COUNTRY AFTER THEIR ARRIVAL. Richard, thanks for recruiting me to LUMLEY. I have thought about searching seriously for family links. Haven't really started yet. Visited Lumley Castle in Northeast England and found a copy of Edith Milner's "History of the Lumleys of Lumley Castle". There is a town close to the castle called Great Lumley. Was quite an ego trip. Now I need to start backwards from my limited knowledge of the U.S. Lumleys. Your site will perhaps provide me with the initiative I need to begin.
