In accordance with Mezzojuso's centuries-old religious traditions and customs, Mezzojuso Heritage Pages, is being dedicated devotionally to the comune of Mezzojuso's two patron saints: Saint Joseph and Saint Nicholas of Mira.

 

 

Saint Joseph is the patron saint of the Roman-rite matriarchal Catholic parish of Maria Santissima Annunziata, in Mezzojuso.

 

Saint Nicholas of Mira is the patron saint of the Byzantine-rite matriarchal Catholic parish of San Nicola di Mira, in Mezzojuso.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mezzojuso Heritage Pages is also dedicated devotionally to Most Holy Mary,

the Mother of God, La Madre di Dio, Mëmë i Zot, Theotokos,

and as she is known in her centuries-old Mezzojuso honorific titles:

Maria Santissima Annunziata (Roman-rite) Most Holy Mary of the Annunciation

Maria Santissima di Tutte le Grazie (Byzantine-rite) Most Holy Mary of All Graces

Maria Santissima dei Miracoli (Roman-rite) Most Holy Mary of Miracles

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Mezzojuso Heritage Pages is fondly dedicated in general to all past and present and future Mezzojusari, and to their descendants, especially here in the United States of America.

 

Mezzojuso Heritage Pages is also fondly dedicated in particular to my parents and grandparents:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Dedication to my Parents:

Mario Lagattuta (born, 1923) and Domenica La Barbera (born, 1925)

Dedication to my Paternal Grandparents:

Salvatore La Gattuta (1888-1974) and Concetta Zito (1892-1964)

Dedication to my Maternal Grandparents:

Nicoló La Barbera (1885-1968) and Giacoma Ginetti (1890-1980)

My maternal grandparents, Nicoló La Barbera and Giacoma Ginetti, at a happy family gathering (for New Year's Day and a special birthday) in Mezzojuso, Sicily (Italy), at my nonno Nicoló La Barbera's 82nd birthday party on 1 January 1967.

In the above photograph is also their son and my maternal uncle, Pietro La Barbera, one of eight children of my maternal grandparents.
