This web-site, Mezzojuso Heritage Pages (which can be rendered into Italian as Le Pagine d'Ereditá Mezzojusara), focuses on my very much beloved ancestral home-town: the small comune of Mezzojuso, in the province of Palermo, in the region of Sicily, in the nation of Italy.

According to the most recent official decennial Italian census of 1991, Mezzojuso's population was recorded as 3,213 persons. Its territorial area comprises 49.43 square kilometers.

Present-day Mezzojuso descendants, whose family roots and genealogical origins are from this small though historic town, may wonder about their own particular ancestors from Mezzojuso, as well as about the past and present inhabitants of Mezzojuso, who call themselves "i Mezzojusari" or "the Mezzojusans".

Present-day Mezzojuso residents, "i Mezzojusari", likewise may wonder about their close or distant relatives, who left Mezzojuso either recently or long ago, perhaps within only the past few decades or maybe even more than a century ago.

Beginning in the latter 1800s, our ancestors started to emigrate from Mezzojuso to various countries, particularly to the United States of America during the time period from the 1880s to the 1920s. Interestingly enough, Mezzojuso's population peaked at nearly 9,000 persons in 1911, which was also when emigration was still relatively high.

Some of us have indeed been fortunate to have maintained continuously our relationships with our Mezzojusari families and relatives; while others of us (having lost these ties in recent decades or perhaps even more than a century ago) are just now beginning to discover our wonderful Mezzojuso heritage.

Mezzojuso Heritage Pages, therefore, aims to assist in reclaiming and strengthening our precious Mezzojuso cultural and familial histories, and in developing better understanding and deeper appreciation of our cherished Mezzojuso traditions and genealogies.

This website was initially launched on the Internet on 16 August 1997, and it is periodically updated. Mezzojuso Heritage Pages was substantially restructured and expanded, and it was then relaunched on 16 November 1999.
