Let me introduce myself. I've been involved in showing
dogs since the late 1940, starting with a rescue collie in obedience, then
several registered collies. Later I married Les Siegel and he came with a
Samoyed. Later we had a German Shepherd, but things were slow in the dog department
because we had our hands pretty much full raising 5 kids. When the kids got
older, we decided to get back into showing, and we picked Afghan hounds as
our breed. We owned one of Wally Pede's Q litter, Ch. Qishon Scheherezade,
known around here as Qi, but known to even more people by his litter call
name "Don Q." We had acquired our foundation bitch and were ready to breed
our first litter under the StarQuest prefix when my husband's health
failed. That stopped all dog events.

We bought a couple of salukis because
they were less maintenance than Afghans, yet had much of the same
personality. (I have always believed that if you want a short haired dog,
buy a short haired dog. Don't buy a longhaired dog and then cut the coat.)
First came Khan, then Pepper, and eventually Sugah.

After Les died in 1993, I gave serious thought of getting
back into showing dogs, but didn't do anything until Khan died in 1996. At
that point, Karu came to live with me. I co-own him with Cyndy Cowie Noah,
who is his breeder. Cyndy called him PeeWee. Currently Karu has 10 points
and one major, and his highest achievement was RWD at National in 1994. My
greatest sorrow is that my health problems keep me from showing him myself.
For this reason, I have acquired the first little dog I have ever owned, a
Silky Terrier puppy.
