Isabella the Cockatiel

Here is the newest cockatiel, Isabella. I brought her to live with my parents on July 5th, the day before Julio died. We don't think she caused his death, because she'd only been in the house for ten hours before his seizures started. Belle's story is that someone found her in their backyard. They kept her for a month, but nobody claimed her. They gave her to a friend, who asked my in-laws if we would want another bird (since we already had Taylor, Gumbo, and Justice, plus my mom's Julio). We said sure, we'll give her to my parents. The timing was bad--Justice had died July 2nd, two days earlier. The last thing my husband wanted to see was another cockatiel. Poor Isabella--she looked just like Justice except for her raggedy tail. She willingly sat on my shoulder and let me pet her. I named her Cinderella (Cindy for short) for looking so tattered. When I took her over to my parents' house, my brother changed her name to Isabella. We had hoped that Julio would be interested in her, but that was not to be. We guessed that she was young, less than a year old. She didn't fly very well and didn't know how to take care of her feathers.

Now almost 3 months later, Isabella is making good progress. She can fly very well. Belle likes to land on people's heads and will do so if you tell her. She whistles quite a bit: she can do a wolf whistle and a "Hey you!" whistle. Belle doesn't make up songs or chatter like Julio did, but then again, he was a boy. She's as vocal as Justice was. My mother bought the Audubon bird clock to amuse Belle, but she ignores it now after listening to it for the past month. Belle-Belle is slowly learning to eat more than just her seeds. She loves millet but can also eat chips and cereal. My brother is trying to teach her to eat table food like rice, pasta, and meat, like the other birds.
