STEVEN

My Gift for Steven
September 27
He had no idea it was coming.
It never should have happened....

Would've, should've, could've,
Those words mean nothing now.

There's not a person, place, or thing
That can undo the wrongdoing of others.

Steven was my 17 year old cousin,
And he had everything going for him.

A family that loved him, a girlfriend,
Good grades, and a scholarship to college.

He was so young and had so much more living to do.
Who gave them permission to take that away from him?

He spent a summer with us.
None of us knew it would be his last,

Since he was taken from us so quickly
When he still had more to give.

Steven was the kindest person
And I remember him for that.

The grave is surrounded by beautiful flowers,
to show of those who care.

I have a poem called 'Footprints' and I keep it in my wallet...
...in rememberance of him.

We used to play Nintendo together.
He could play it with his eyes closed.

He tried to make a sandwich for me once,
And he put the jelly on the same side as the peanut butter.

Silly memories like that are the ones that
I need to remember...

...So Steven won't disappear completely.
I can't remember much about him and

It's a sad thing that two people could
Have such an impact on a whole family.

There's a special day, September 27,
Protect the Children Day, in memory of him.

No matter what they have done,
Or how much time passes,

He will always be remembered and
Stay close in our hearts.
