MY FAVOURITE POEMS

Many people argue that reason should guide all that we do and think, and that feelings are a weakness. I feel this attitude is an attempt to hide our inner selves so that we remain unknown.I believe that we should cultivate and show our feelings, for they are what make us unique and sensitive human beings.

I have always loved Poetry. Hard as I have tried, I have never had the knack to write my own. The following poems have been collected over the years, and are among my favourites. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

I am with you now, between cool sheets,

Lost in the fury and fire of unboundless love.

They're talking to me, I do not hear,

It's not clear, for you are near, and I am with you.

Now, you are smiling at me, and I am lost again,

In the depth of your eyes, in the gentle beat of your heart

Next to mine.

There is music somewhere, it swirls above my head,

as love conquers all, and freely runs through my veins,

And I am lost again.

What was that, Madam?!!

I am awakened from my thoughts, as another client appears.

Shoots at me questions, Words!,

What do they mean? How would I know?

For even though I've been present at work,

It's only body not mind,

You are with me all the time,

and you are with me....Now.

The Broken Heart

A heart is never broken,it only seems to be,

When grief or disappointment, have struck it cruelly,

And left you with the fragments, the shards of bitterness,

But pieces come together, time eases the distress,

And one day you are whole again,at peace, content to rest,

In the quiet knowledge, that the worst was for the best.

Hearts do mend, and in the end are stronger for the stroke,

Wiser and more gentle than they were before they broke,

Like the work of restoration on an antique shattered bowl,

Life, the craftsman, recreates the devastated soul.

A Woman's Last Word

Let's contend no more, Love,

Strive nor weep:

All be as before, Love,

-----Only sleep!

What so wild as words are?

I and thou

In debate, as birds are,

Hawk on bough!

See the creature stalking

While we speak!

Hush and hide the talking,

Cheek on cheek!

What so false as truth is,

False to thee?

Where the serpent's tooth is

Shun the tree---

Where the apple reddens

Never pry---

Lest we lose our Edens,

Eve and I.

Be a god and hold me

With a charm!

Be a man and fold me

With thine arms!

Teach me, only teach, Love!

As I ought

I will speak thy speech, Love,

Think thy thought---

Meet, if thou require it,

Both demands,

Laying flesh and spirit

In thy hands.

That shall be tomorrow

Not tonight:

I must bury sorrow

Out of sight:

---Must a little weep, Love,

(Foolish me!)

And so fall asleep, Love,

Loved by thee.

Robert Browning

Night

The night has a thousand eyes,

And the day but one;

Yet the light of the bright world dies

With the dying sun.

The mind has a thousand eyes,

And the heart but one;

Yet the light of a whole life dies,

When love is done.
