Here are some recipes that were my grandpa's

JOHNNY CAKE 2 tbs. lard 2 tbs. sugar 1 egg 1 cup sweet milk 1 cup corn meal 1 cup flour 2 tsp. baking powder, level a little salt If not stiff enough, add a little cornmeal. If you use sour milk use one level teaspoon baking soda instead of baking powder. EGGLESS, BUTTERLESS, SUGARLESS & MILKLESS CAKE 1 1/2 cup cold water 1 cup molasses 1/2 cup shortening 1 cup raisins 1/2 tsp. cloves Boil 5 minutes, when cold add: 1/2 cup flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. soda put in cold water CHOCOLATE CAKE 1/3 c. sugar 1/3 c. sour milk 1/4 c. butter 1 egg 2 tbs. cocoa 1 1/2 c. flour 1 tsp. soda 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 cup hot water Cream sugar and butter then add beaten egg then add cocoa which has been dissolved in hot water then soda which has been dissolved in sour milk & stir in other ingredients. FILLING: 1 tbs. cocoa 1 cup boiling water 1 tsp. butter 2/3 c. sugar 1 tb. cornstarch 1 tsp. vanilla Mix sugar, cocoa and corn starch then add hot water & cook in double boiler until thick. Take from stove and add butter, vanilla and beat lightly. Put between layers. PICKLED GREEN TOMATOES 1 peck green sliced tomatoes 1 quart onions sliced Put in crock alternately & salt and brine; set all night, drain in a.m. 2 quarts vinegar 1 quart brown sugar 1 tbsp. ground or stick cinnamon 1 tbsp. mustard seed 1 tbsp. whole cloves Cook all together until it comes to a boil then mix onions and tomatoes and boil for 20 minutes. CRANBERRY SAUCE 1 lb. cranberries 4 apples 1 orange, rind & pulp Put through a food chopper uncooked. 1 cup sugar 1 pg. of orange or lemon jello Put 1 cup of boiling and 1/2 cup of cold water to jello. Cool jello before adding to other mixture. Will keep a long time. Use all juices from the fruit, just pour over fruit and add sugar. FUDGE Peanut butter fudge 2 cups sugar 2 tbsp. peanut butter 1/2 cup milk Boil until forms soft ball in cold water then add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla. Regular fudge: 3 cups of sugar 1 cup milk or cream 4 or 5 tbsp. cocoa or 2 oz. unsweetened chocolate 1 tbsp. butter 1 tsp. vanilla extract Boil until it forms a soft ball in cold water, take from fire and add butter and vanilla; cool and stir until creamy. Pour on buttered plates and cut into squares.
