The 10 Commandments of Pet Ownership

  1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be painful.
  2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
  3. Place your trust in me; it is crucial for my well-being.
  4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment.
  5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice.
  6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll never forget it.
  7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth, but I choose not to bite you.
  8. Before you scold me, ask yourself if something may be bothering me.
  9. Take care of me when I get old. You too will grow old.
  10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Everything is easier for me if you are there.

Sluggo

Knows

Dear Sluggo: You're a pug-about-town, Sluggo, and I'm a pug in need of help. I am trying to break into show business, and no one is taking my acting seriously. When I go to an audition, I'm very prepared, know my lines perfectly, but everyone bursts out into laughter when I say them. Could it be the part I am auditioning for? Here are the lines they are having me say: "Go ahead, Punk, make my day." What's so funny about a pug saying this? It's classic Eastwood!
          Signed, Thespugian

Dear Ronnie: I can hardly answer you for laughing. Sorry. Of course, it's pretty tough out there, but perhaps we pugs should just defer to another breed in this instance. Do you think a bulldog might be better suited to play the tough-guy roles? You could audition for something from that master of pug-lore, Shakespug. I know you'd make a great Romeo, or how about really stretching yourself and playing Puck from Midsummer Pug's Dream? I suggest that you stay away from the Eastwood and Cagney roles and stick with something from the master. Tee-hee-hee.
          Signed, Sluggo
