Love To Me Is

Love, to me, is not something in a book,
Something old, or stale, or weak,
Nor something exclusively feminine or soft,
And not feeble, timid or fearful.

It is not to do with the loins,
It is not to do with the head,
It is not to do with forced actions,
And it is nowhere in a lusty eye.

It is not strange or mystic,
It is not far off and vague,
It is not difficult to obtain,
It is not exclusive to any group.

It is not a sign of weakness.
It is found in the hearts of the greatest heroes,
And the greatest heroines,
And is a fearsome force to trifle with.

It resides in an indefinable spot in our chest,
Sometimes in our belly.
It is not tangible enough to be grasped with the hand,
But is more solid than the gold too many of us trust in.

It is a driving force which knows no limits,
Knows no obstacles, only things to flow around.
It refutes the theory of an immovable object,
For it is the supreme and irresistible force.

It is not privy to the notion of failure.
More has been achieved throughout time,
On the impetus of love,
Than all other forces combined.

To love, is to become a conduit for the eternal,
To handle the only heavenly commodity found on earth,
To feel the steady pulse of the universe,
To touch, and be touched, by the hand of God.

The dimensions of love
Dwarf the highest mountains,
Bridge the widest chasms,
And somehow stretch beyond time into eternity.

In all creation, nothing is more weather resistant,
More useful, more appropriate,
More adaptable, more enduring,
More ingenious, or more precious.

It can not be manufactured,
Bought, sold or exploited,
Imitated or copied,
Damaged, stolen or destroyed.

It can not be posted,
It can not be sent by courier,
It can not be sent with a messenger.
It must be hand delivered.

It is simple to handle,
Increases the more you give it away,
Always arrives with hope, joy,
And encouragement as companions.

In all that we do during our journey on earth,
Nothing is of any value, of any significance,
Of any good eternal consequence,
If it is not mixed with love.

It is the vital ingredient of any worthwhile enterprise,
It is the cornerstone of our purpose in life,
It should be pre-eminent in our mission statement,
It should accompany all our transactions.

It is fair and just,
Balanced and perfect.
It upholds and carries good,
And utterly opposes evil.

When people ask, Who is God?
I don't think of a far off spirit being.
I think of his hand touching me inside,
And I understand why God is called love.

TAMMY

I hear the cottonwoods whispering above,
Tammy... Tammy... Tammy's in love
The ole hooty-owl hooty-hoos to the dove,
Tammy... Tammy... Tammy's in love

Does my darling feel
What I feel
When he comes near?
My heart beats so joyfully,
You'd think that he could hear

Wish I knew if he knew
What I'm dreaming of
Tammy... Tammy... Tammy's in love

Whippoorwill, whippoorwill, you and I know
Tammy... Tammy... can't let him go
The breeze from the bayou keeps murmuring low
Tammy... Tammy... you love him so

When the night is warm,
Soft and warm,
I long for his charms
I'd sing like a violin
If I were in his arms

Wish I knew if he knew
What I'm dreaming of
Tammy... Tammy... Tammy's in love
