What a beautiful and touching tribute to your dear companion. We too are experiencing the trama of a dog with cancer. We are doing everything possible to give Abby a good quality of life and enjoying every moment with her. She never ceases to amaze us with her strength and her will to survive and her doctors are amazed at her fortitude. Abby has been a focal point of our lives for over 12 years and is our constant companion. Thank you for sharing this touching story.

Nice site, I'm sorry you had to go through what you did with Dashi. Recently I lost a loved one- a little rat named Zippy. I love him so much. I hope all your other dogs will live long and healthy lives.

I thank you for letting me share in the memories of Dashi. I too just recently as two weeks ago had to have my Keeshond "Dusty" put down in his twelth year. He too had cancer (of the liver) and it had spread throughout his body by the time they had foun it. We thought he was having problems with his hips as he was extremely stiff trying to get up from laying down and could barely make it up the stairs on his own. When we took him to the vet for x-rays, they found that his hips were clear as well as the knee , however, the liver was enlarged and did not look good. They proceeded with an ultrasound on the liver and found that 50% of his liver had a tumor on it and chances were good that it had spread to his brain. We had to make the decision almost immediate y on what to do. Trying to think through emotions of grief and wanting to try and keep him alive, I could not put Dusty though the pain and discomfort of living with cancer. We were told that he would not last until Christmas even if we did try. We cho e not to let him suffer and to die with dignity. We spent the last couple of hours with him in a private room which the clinic made a small bed for Dusty to sleep on. We said our good-byes with many tears and Dusty gave us (my husband and I) his loving ittle kisses on our face as he slowly drifted to sleep. We chose to have Dusty Cremated and returned to us, as he was more than just the family pet to us. They gave us a plaster paw print of Dusty along with clippings of his fur. No words can even expr ss the loss I feel or the emptiness in my heart. I have had a number of people say to me that we should get ourselves another dog, however, I do not feel at this time that it is right nor do I want to for Dusty's sake. I thank you for letting me tell you my story.

MAY 24,2000. YOUR TRIBUTE TO DASHI WAS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. I CRYED THROUGH THE WHOLE STORY. I'M SO SORRY ABOUT YOUR LOSS. MY HUSBAND JOE AND I HAVE 3 KEESHOUNDS,CHELSEA-10, SAMANTHA-4 AND MEMPHIS-11 WHOM WE RECENTLY ADOPTED FROM AN OLDER COUPLE WHO CO LDN'T CARE FOR HER ANYMORE. WE ARE IN OUR EARLY 30'S AND HAVE NO CHILDREN AND THESE DOGS ARE OUR LIVES. THEY ARE THE BEST COMPANIONS ANYONE COULD ASK FOR. THEY ALL THREE HAVE VERY SPECIAL QUALITIES. RECENTLY WE HAVE FOUND THAT OUR CHELSEA SEEMS TO BE SHOW NG SIGNS OF ARTHRITIS IN HER BACK, SOMETIMES SHE GETS UP VERY SLOW. MY HUSBAND AND I HAVE HAD TALKS ABOUT FACING THE FACT THAT BOTH CHELSEA AND MEMPHIS ARE GETTING OLDER. WE LOVE OUR DOGS VERY MUCH AS YOU LOVED YOUR DASHI. THANK YOU FOR THE TOUCHING STOR AND PHOTOS. I THINK YOUR WEBSITE IS WONDERFUL AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SHOW IT TO MY HUSBAND. TAKE CARE AND GOD BLESS.

I have been greeted every waking day with her doggie "smile" for 13 years now, I cannot imagin when she will not be there. Please know there are plenty of us out here that know the love and pain you feel. Thankyou for this touching memorial. Deanna

We will miss him so much. I know in a few days I will take him to the vet, I'll be crying and he'll be trying to comfort me Thank you for sharing your story.

It was nice browsing through your website, to look at pictures of other Keeshonds and read the notes about them. My Keeshond was recently put to sleep; and it's been hard considering I am nearly 18, and he had been my companion since I was 5. Although he breed is very beautiful, Tanner remains to have the prettiest face I've ever seen in a Keeshond. I wish you the best with your dogs.

Your story touches my heart. I have an 11 yr old Keeshond named Smokey. I recently discovered he had a baseball sized tumor at the base of his tail. The vet confirmed my deepest fears, it was cancer. Smokey went in for surgery on January 26, 1999 at t e Washington State University Vetrinary Teaching Hospital. The operation was a success, and the vet said he could potentially live another 5 yrs. Smokey's stiches were removed last week and he is recovering at home. I just wish every story had a happy nding like Smokey's.

We don't h ve any children, our pets are our family. I, too, have felt the pain of having to have a Kees taken away from me. Smokey was a great dog, with all of the great Kees attributes. One day he went around a truck at the end of the driveway to greet a friend who had just driven in. A taxi coming by too close to the curb and too fast never even bothered to try and miss him. Even with half of his face caved in, he tried to get up when I came in the door. I took him to the vet, and they advised that he be put to sleep. At 11:07 AM on his 3rd birthday, Smok entered the happy hunting grounds. As he received the shot, and the pain began to ebb from his body, he looked straight into my eyes with a look of pure love, and thanks for taking away the pain. The Keeshond is a truly unique breed, especially for those of us who have no family of our own. Even now, the pain is returning, 1-1/2 years later, as I write this. May they live forever in our memories.

I keep saying that my next dog will be a Keesie rescue. Then a dog needing me comes along. Right now I have 4 rescues of my own. Jack, my 8 yr old Jack Russell Terrier, from an animal shelter. Maggie, my 3 yr old Chihuahua mix (who is my very special friend), came from an animal shelter as well. Vinnie my 4 yr old cat who adopted m . He was a stray. And Scooby, my 7 mo. old Jack Russell Terrier who I rescued from an abusive home. Our home is very full!! But we are all very much loved. Maybe someday my Keesie will come.

What a beautiful memorial to a wonderful member of your family. I had the pleasure of having my heart stolen by a keeshond/elkhound mix, which I named Natasha (Tasha, for short). She was a beautiful, loving and extremely intellegent being. I, too had to fa e the sorrow of saying good-bye to my wonderful companion, that went with me everywhere (even to my workplace).
