~ Day Two ~

Timmy was sedated all night.
6:00 A.M. In to see Tim.
9:00 A.M. Timmy is off the ventilator. His breathing is ragged but they say it will get better as he gets more awake. They said after the drugs are stopped (to keep him out) it takes 15 min. to 1/2 hour for them to wake. Tim was awake on 15! 3:30 P.M. All IV lines are out except one in foot for use of giving drugs. The chest tube is still in. Timmy had his FIRST bottle! 3 oz. of Apple juice!
4:15 P.M. Timothy had his second bottle!! 3 oz. of milk! Still has a lot of congestion but they say it will clear. He has a very quiet cry... whimper.
7:30 P.M. They removed the chest tube! Worried a little about blood pressure as he is retaining fluids. Medicine given to reduce pressure & swelling. Still has a very quiet cry.
8:30 P.M. Timmy off oxygen- doing well.

Timmy was feeling the pain today. He was very hard to hold as the only part of him we wanted to touch (for fear of hurting him more) was his back. He seemed to need love & comfort yet we were unable to do more than have him lay in our laps. We loved him so much & felt we couldn't show him enough...

During these days in PICU, there were families I will not ever forget. The baby girl beside Timmy was beautiful. A gorgeous head of hair & so precious. Her mom explained to me that she had all the tests, ultrasounds and all... and her baby was born with "half a heart". I now know this to be HLHS. When I saw Brenda hold her baby & rock her the first time I cried at their sight. Another family lost their precious baby boy and all the family came to say goodbye. It was heart wrenching to see. We knew we were the lucky ones. And we were grateful.
