CHILDREN

From before they are born, til the day they depart,
You nourish them, feed them, give them their start.
You cherish them, love them, protect them from dangers,
Reprehend them, encourage them, warn about strangers.
You read to them, play with them, teach them all things,
Celebrate with them, cry with them, as they try out their wings.
You worry, you fret, when they are out on their own,
You smile, you laugh when they finally do phone.
You show pride at their accomplishments, sorrow at their tears,
Joy in their happiness, anguish at their fears.
Many blessings and memories in your mind you have filed,
For there's nothing more rewarding than raising a child.

A Parent's Ordeal

He turned 15, took drivers ed, and needs to learn to drive.
You bravely step into the car, and wonder if you'll survive.
He fastens his seat belt and adjusts the mirror his way.
You tremble slightly, tighten your belt, and a silent prayer you pray.
He shifts the gear, the car moves slowly down the road.
You start to tense, your hands you tightly hold.
He picks up speed, and a look of delight appears upon his face.
You mutter silently and on the floor, your feet and legs do brace.
He sees the stop sign, lifts his foot and tries to gently brake.
You hold your breath, your jaw is tight, your teeth do start to grate.
He turns around, he's heading home, his signals properly set.
You wipe your brow, sigh with relief, your body's wringing wet.
