The LENNIE/LENY Family Tree

While the Lennies are part of the Buchanan Clan, they do have their own tartan shown above.
The history of the Buchanan Clan records that the family of the Chiefs gave off many branches. Allan, son of Maurice, the ninth laird of Buchanan married the heiress of Leny. His line ended in an heiress, Janet, who married John, son of the eleventh Chief of Buchanan in 1363. John became the twelfth Chief of Buchanan. Their second son, Walter became Sir Walter Buchanan, 13th Laird of Buchanan while their 3rd. son, John, became Laird of Lenny.

The Lenny(Leny) lands were close to Callander, Perthshire, where there is a Pass of Leny, River Leny, Falls of Leny and nearby Little Leny, the ancestral burial grounds of the Buchanans. The Lennie estate also encompassed parts of Midlothian where there are Nether Lennie, Lennie Mains and Lennie Park.

A brief history of the Leny/Lennies can be found in Vol. L No. 1 March 2003 in an article entitled "THE DE LANYS OR LENNIES OF THAT ILK" by Graeme M. Mackenzie. M.A. The estates of the Lennie family would appear to have been deeded by the Earl of Lennox in 1270.

In tracing my ancestors through Scottish Church Records (OPR), I have been successful in finding ancestors back to the 1740s.

Wife: JANE(Jean) NEILSON. Christened 1 Aug. 1802 in Balfron, Stirling. Died 2 Mar. 1884 at 34 Fourth St.in St. Rollox, Glasgow.*
The 1851 Maryhill census shows Thomas at 14 Carscube Road, while the 1861 and 1871 census shows living at 39 Woodside Road where he died.
