Genealogy Terminology

1. GENEALOGY--family tree project. Finding out about your family history and where you fit into it.

2. ANCESTOR--relatives who came before you such as your parents and grandparents.

3.DESCENDANT--relatives who will come after you such as your children and grandchildren.

4.FAMILY GROUP SHEET--one sheet of paper with a place to enter information on husband, wife and all their children.

5.DOB--date of birth usually written out like this: (for example) 06 May 1900

6.POB--place of birth, usually written out like this: (for example) Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee

7.BUR--burial place. Try to get the name of the Cemetery, town, county and state if you can.

8. RELATIONSHIP--how you are related to a person in your family (Please see my relationship chart).
