Helen B. (Foster) Pritchard's obituary - Mrs. Helen B. Pritchard, died 9 October 1978: Mrs. Helen B. Pritchard, 53, of 311 E. Pearl St, Jerseyville was pronounced dead on arrival at Jersey Community Hospital at 9 am 8 October after suffering an apparent heart attack. She was born in Jersey County 10 July 1925, a daughter of Jud and Mena (Freand) Foster. She had been a bookkeeper at C & W Equipment Co. Mrs. Pritchard was a member of the First Baptist church, Ruby Rebekah Lodge and the Madrigal Singers.

Her survivors are her husband, Hugh Pritchard whom she married 18 February 1956; two daughters, Joyce and Carol Pritchard, both college students; and one brother, Truman Foster of Jerseyville. Her parents, one brother and a sister preceded her in death. Visitation after 4 pm 10 October at Gubser Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the First Baptist church at noon Wednesday where visitation will continue until time of services at 2 pm. The Rev. Orrin Anderson of the Alton First Baptist church will officiate and burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. The family has designated the Adult Choir of the First Baptist church as a memorial.

Truman A. Foster's obituary - Truman A. Foster, 92, died at 4:46 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at his home. Born May 8, 1908, in Jersey County, he was a son of the late Andrew Jud and Mena (Freand) Foster. A U.S. Coast Guard World War II veteran, he owned and operated Foster Auto Sales and Repair for 54 years, retiring in 1984, and was a Studebaker and Nash car dealer from 1939 to 1959 in Jerseyville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, I.O.O.F. No. 53 and American Legion Post No. 492, all in Jerseyville and was a Boy Scouts of America scoutmaster in 1948, the American Red Cross director from 1942 to 1960 and World War II commander of civilian defense. He married the former Blanche Dierking June 27, 1931, in Alton. She died July 3, 1988.

Surviving are a daughter, Joan Foster Dixon of Atlanta, and two grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Dixon and Craig Andrew Dixon, both of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by a brother, Henry L. Foster, and two sisters, Trulbia White and Helen Pritchard. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday.The Rev. Ed Haun will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Jerseyville.

(Timpe) Freand's son Carl Freand's wife - Janet (Nichels) Freand, 63, formerly of Jerseyville, died at 11:25 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Skaggs Health Center in Branson. She was born Aug. 21, 1943, in Rosedale, Ill., to Leslie E. and Mary L. (Fryman) Nickels. She married Carl Freand on Sept. 29, 1962, in Jerseyville. He survives. A jewelry distributor in Branson, she retired in 2006. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Jerseyville and past member of the Otterville Baptist Church and State Street Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Susan Freand of Brighton and Leslie Freand of Hollister, Mo.; two daughters, Carla Norris and Karen Freand, both of Hollister; three grandsons, Jacob Norris and Kyle and Ethan Freand; her mother, Mary L. Nickels of Jerseyville; three sisters, Barbara Ontis of Jerseyville and Martha Hayes and Anita Nickels, both of Jacksonville, Ill.; and one brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Carla Nickels of Holiday Shores. She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Leslie David Nickels. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Jon Lorch will officiate at services at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2001 South Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63131-3597.

He married Martha Mae Burch born 4-1-1911, and died 9-4-2005. They were married 4-2-1932. She was the daughter of Jacob and Emeline (Dunham) Burch and they lived in Kane, IL. Her father Jacob Burch was born 5-12-1865, and died 11-6-1935. He was the son of George and Jane (Harvill) Burch. His wife Emeline Burch was born 1873 and died in 1956. They are both buried at Lax Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL.

Henry Freand's wife Martha Mae (Burch) Freand's obituary - Martha Mae Freand, 94, died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. She was born on April 1, 1911, on the family farm that she still resided on west of Kane. She was the last surviving child of the late Jacob and Rachel Emeline (Dunham) Burch. She grew up in the country and for a short time worked at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville. An independent woman, she dedicated herself to the principles of hard work, good ethics and helping others. She found true happiness working with her hands, whether it was in the fields, her garden or knitting afghans for various family members.

Surviving are many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Henry Freand; three brothers, Harry, Fred and Ross Burch; and two sisters, Faye McAdams and Ellen Freand. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Father William Hembrow will officiate. Burial will be in Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Kane Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

(4) Bernard and Rosa (Kraushaar) Freand's son Lewis A. Freand was born 4-6-1895 in English Township, Jersey County, IL, and died 5-6-1971 in Jersey County, IL. He married Ellen M. Burch 4-8-1918 the daughter of Jacob and Emeline (Dunham) Burch and lived in Jerseyville, IL. They are both buried at Lax Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL. Her father Jacob Burch was born 5-12-1865, and died 11-6-1935. He was the son of George and Jane (Harvill) Burch. His wife Emeline Burch was born 1873 and died in 1956. They are both buried at Lax Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL.

Surviving are her husband; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda D. and Jerry Kadell and Pamela A. and Kenny Pohlman, all of Jerseyville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger A. and Sherry Freand and Robert L. and Melissa Freand, all of Jerseyville; 11 grandchildren, Cory Freand, Josh Freand, Jessica (Aaron) Hoffmann, Katie Freand, Kristie (Bryan) Hagen, Kimberly Kadell, Brian Pohlman, Christopher Pohlman, Garrett Freand, Kirsten Freand and Wyatt Freand; two great-grandchildren, Jacob Freand and Zachary Hoffmann. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was born March 8, 1912, in Jersey County to the late Otto F. "Pete" and Anna J. (Freand) Biederman. She married Clarence George Krause at the Evangel Reformed Church in Fieldon on Oct. 26, 1932. He died Nov. 27, 1999. She was a homemaker and worked at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville for five years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Hubert H. Ringhausen of Jerseyville; two grandchildren, Marilyn Kay and Charles Ambrose of Coppell, Texas and Stanley Alan Ringhausen of Godfrey; and one great-granddaughter, Laura Kay Ambrose. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys Watts, Zella Mae Burch and Edna Ballard; and one brother, Leo Biederman. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. to the time of services at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville, with the Rev. Stan Martin officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville.

Geneva Pearl (Keown) Koenig's obituary - Geneva Pearl Koenig, 80, died peacefully at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at her home. She was born May 7, 1923, in Jersey County, just west of Kane, to Alonzo Vincent and Clara Margaret (Freand) Keown. She married George Washington Koenig on March 31, 1951, at the Holy Ghost Rectory. He survives. A 1941 graduate of Jersey Township High School, she was a beautician, operating Gen's Beauty Salon out of her home on Northmoor Drive. She retired in 1995 after serving her customers for 26 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing the piano and painting. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Altar Society, VFW Auxiliary and Tri-County Antique Club and was a Daughter of the American Revolution.

Surviving, in addition to her husband of 52 years, are a son and daughter-in-law, George William and Dottie Koenig of Jerseyville; two grandchildren and their spouses, Christina and Norman Fabry of Alsip and Michael and Jennifer Koenig of Jerseyville; and a great-granddaughter, Shelby Ann Koenig. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Florence Oletha Keown. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home, Jacoby Chapel, in Jerseyville, with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow officiating. Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville or to Saint Anthony's Hospice.

She was married 6-26-1913 to Thomas Edward Keown who was born in 1888 in Greene County, IL, and died in 1968 in Jersey County, IL. They are both buried in Lax Cemetery in English Township. Thomas Edward Keown was the son of Marion Edward Keown and Elzina Elizabeth (Burch) Keown. James Anderson married my father's sister, the former Laura Westfall in 1916 in Jersey County, IL. I have been unable to find any information about who James Anderson's parents were. I don't know his date of birth. He died in the 1940's or 1950's in Alton, IL. I think he may have been born in the 1880's or 1890's in possibly Jersey County, IL, or Calhoun County, IL. Birth records show a James Emert Anderson born in 1891 in Jersey County, IL. I don't kmow if that was him. There are Anderson families in both Jersey and Calhoun Counties in Illinois, but I have been unable to establish a definite link between him and those Anderson families.

She was born 9-18-1899 in Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL, and died 2-26-1976 at Eunice Smith Nursing Home in Alton, Madison County, IL. Her burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Alton, IL. They had a daughter Frances (Chic) Anderson born 11-12-1916. She married Joseph Arleigh Reed and they had a son James Reed. Arleigh died in 1990 in Alton, IL. Frances lives with her son Jim in Alton. Frances (Anderson) Reed's husband, Joseph Arleigh Reed was born in 1914 in Pearl, Pike County, IL. (He went by his middle name Arleigh). He was the son of John and Nellie (Perry) Reed. He married my cousin Frances Anderson the daughter of James and Laura (Westfall) Anderson.

He died at 3:50 a.m. Dec. 21, 1982 at his residence, 206 Sherman St., in Jerseyville, IL. His burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Alton, IL. Joseph I. Coleman had been married before and had a son Edward Coleman of Elsah, IL, and a daughter Bessie (Coleman) Randall of Panacea, Florida.

After his wife the former Laura Westfall's death Joseph I. Coleman remarried to her sister, the former Anna Westfall, the daughter of Jasper Mifflin Westfall and Frances (McCaulley) Westfall, and a sister to my father Walter Edward Westfall. Anna Westfall was born May 19, 1904 in Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, IL, and died 10-15-1992 in Jerseyville, Jersey County, IL. She is buried at Grimes-Neely Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL. She was married previously to Wesley Charles Griffin. He was the son of John and Alice (Books) Griffin. He was born 7-20-1873, and died 5-12-1943 in Jersey County, IL. They had 7 children-Viola Griffin, Harold Griffin, Eunice Griffin, Geneva "Sissy" Griffin, Melvin Griffin, Norma Jean Griffin, and Virgil Griffin.

Joseph I. Coleman's obituary - Services were conducted Friday afternoon at Gubser Funeral Home for Joseph I. Coleman, 81, who died at 3:50 a.m. Dec. 21, 1982 at his residence, 206 Sherman St., Jerseyville. The Rev. V. Clay Noah officiated. He was born Dec. 8, 1901 in Racola, Mo., a son of the late James and Victoria (Robart) Coleman. The World War II veteran was retired from Olin Corp.

His survivors are his wife, Anna Westfall Griffin Coleman; one son, Edward of Elsah; a daughter, Bessie Randall of Panacea, Fla.; two stepsons, Harold Griffin of Washington and Virgil Griffin of Portland, Ore.; three step daughters, Viola Godar, Otterville, Eunice Kessler, Portland, Ore., Geneva McClintock, Phoenix, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. His first wife Laura Coleman died Feb. 26, 1976. The American Cancer Society has been named as a memorial. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery , Alton.

Besides her husband, surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Arleigh (Frances) Reed of Alton; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Bessie Randall of Summerville, MO; a stepson, Ed Coleman of Godfrey; 1 grandchild; 7 step grandchildren; three brothers, Jasper Westfall of Alton, Floyd Westfall of Medora and Ed Westfall of Pearl; a sister, Mrs. Anna Pitt of Jerseyville and a half sister, Mrs. Eva Haag of Rosewood Heights. Visitation begins after 4 pm. Friday at Gent Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be said at 7 pm. Friday. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 9 pm. Saturday at St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in St. Patrick's cemetery.

Joseph Arleigh Reed's sister's obituary - Lucille Elizabeth (Reed) Ozee, 82, died at 2:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton. She was born April 3, 1920, in Pearl, Ill., to John and Nellie (Perry) Reed. She married Louis M. Ozee July 12, 1939, in St. Charles, Mo. He died Feb 26, 1994. A member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Alton and the VFW Post 1308 Ladies Auxiliary, she worked as a bookkeeper for her husband, who owned Central Ave. Auto Parts in Alton.

Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, Sandra L. and Thomas Fillback of Jerseyville, Susan M. and Jeff Matsche of Godfrey; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bradford A. and Cheri Ozee of Hillsboro, Gary M. Ozee of Stover, Mo.; seven grandchildren, John W. Ozee II, Carrie Cotter, Amanda Ozee, Cassandra Fillback, Kristi L. Ozee, Matthew A. Ozee, Michelle E. Matsche; and a great-grandson, William Cotter. Besides her parents and husband, preceding her in death was a son, John W. Ozee; a brother, J. Arleigh Reed; and two sisters, Bernice Hart and Lela Burch. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Rev. Allynn Walker will officiate. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oasis Sunday School class at Main St. United Methodist Church in Alton.
