She was born in 1899 and died in 1950. She was the daughter of Joseph and Susan (Winters) Bowers. She is buried at Gunterman Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL.

Logan Thompson's mother Elizabeth (Greer) Thompson's obituary - Elizabeth (Greer) Thompson, died 08-26-1953. Mrs. Elizabeth (Greer) Thompson, 88, a former resident of Jersey County, died Wednesday, August 26, at St. Joseph hospital in Alton where she had been removed for treatment of complications that developed following a hip fracture. Funeral services were held Saturday, August 29, at 2 pm at the Streeper Funeral Home in Wood River. Mrs Thompson, widow of Columbus K. Thompson, was born in Athens, Illinois, March 15, 1865. Her husband and 6 children preceded her in death. Surviving Mrs. Thompson are 3 daughters, Mrs. W. Hendrickson, of Eldred, Mrs. Ella Borman of Pasadena, Texas, and Mrs. George Forsting of Hartford; and 7 sons, Marshall of Versailles, William of Olive Branch, Logan of Godfrey, Lawrence of Alton, Clarence of Hartford, Roy of Wood River, and Russell of Edwardsville. She also leaves 67 grandchildren, 48 g-grandchildren and 3 g-g-grandchildren.

(1) Logan and Viola (Bowers) Thompson's son Russell Oliver Thompson was born Sept. 18, 1919, in Jersey County, IL. He died unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2004, age 85, in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville, IL. He is buried at Kane Cemetery, Greene County, IL.
A resident of Kane for many years, he was employed at the Kane Croft Farm for 21 years until the farm was sold and then began working as a mechanic and driver for Krause and Son Implement Co. in Jerseyville, retiring in 1982, after dedicating 15 years to the business. He was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695 and enjoyed their many activities and meals that he and his wife were able to take part in and was especially proud of his yard and garden.
(Note: Russell Oliver Thompson married first Mildred Westfall (my sister), the daughter of Walter Edward Westfall and Lovie (Kraushaar) Westfall, and they had a son Russell Edward Thompson.)
Russell Oliver Thompson later married the former Hazel Schaaf on Nov. 6, 1943, in Jerseyville, who at the time was Hazel Maples, having been married previously. She was the daughter of Isom and Adah (Young) Schaaf. Russell and Hazel (Schaaf) Thompson have a son Raymond Thompson and his wife Doris Thompson of Fieldon; a daughter and son-in-law, Verna Kay and Perry Ontis of Fieldon; and a stepdaughter, Shirley Jean Johnson of Roxana.

Russell Oliver Thompson's second wife Hazel (Schaaf) Maples Thompson's obituary - Hazel (Schaaf) Thompson, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2007, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. Born Sept. 20, 1918, in Jersey County, she was one of nine children of Isom and Ada C. (Young) Schaaf. She married Russell Thompson on Nov. 6, 1943, and the two lived in Kane for many years, where he was employed on the Kane Croft Farm. They shared 61 years together before his death on Dec. 15, 2004. Coming from a large, close-knit family, she learned early on what hard work, dedication and loyalty to family meant. She was employed as a cook for many years at Hanks Cafe in Kane and later became a cook at the Kane Grade School for 16 years before retiring.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Shirley Jean Johnson of Alton and Verna Kay and Perry Ontis of Fieldon; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Doris Thompson of Fieldon; a stepson, Russell Edward Thompson of Wood River; and numerous grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Edna Marie Farris, in December 1968; three grandsons, Carl Russell Johnson, Billy Joe Farris and Michael Farris; two great-grandsons, Scott Johnson and Matthew Crull; three brothers, Fred, Julius "Dude" and Henry Schaaf; and five sisters, Sophia Miller, Lelia Dilks, Alberta Evans, Dorothy Mitchell and Rosemary Schaaf. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Chuck Keene, of Kane Baptist Church, will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday. He was a resident of Dumfries, Va., for many years with his wife and children and returned home 10 days ago to spend the last few weeks here with his family. Born Sept. 17, 1962, in East St. Louis, he was one of eight children of Joseph Wesley and Doris (Cates) Hunter. He graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1980 and joined the U.S. Army in 1985, serving overseas in Germany and Korea. It was while he was stationed in Korea that he met and married Julie Haek on Jan. 16, 1987. He was honorably discharged in 1996, and they returned with their family to the Washington D.C., area, where he was employed as a radar technician with the Federal Aviation Administration through Ronald Reagan Airport.
He is survived by his wife, of Dumfries, Va.; his mother and stepfather, Doris and Raymond Thompson of Fieldon; two sons, Joseph Wesley Hunter III, 19, and John Jasper Hunter, 9, both of Dumfries; six sisters and brothers-in-law, LeDonna and Kenny Johnson of Granite City, Dorothy and Darrell Talley, Norma and Ned Pinkerton, Cheryl and John Hamel and Yvonne and Richard Harp, all of Carrollton, and Carol and Tim Dougherty of Jerseyville; two halfsisters, Jean Wagner of Nutwood and Jodie Dietrich of Carroll, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, Ralph and Norma Cates and Wesley and Dorothy Hunter. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with cremation to take place afterwards. The Kane Baptist church where he was a member has been named as a memorial.

She was the daughter of Leroy and Mrs. (Medford) born in Fieldon vicinity. In 1914, she graduated from JTHS. She had been a member of the Royal Neighbors. She leaves her husband, Wm. Thompson; 3 Daughters, Dorothy Lucille, Ureta Grace, and Opal Irene; 1 son Herschel Leroy,; and 2 brothers, Herschel and Beeman, living near Fieldon. Rev. Jos. Jenkins officiated at the service, held from her home, with burial in Gunterman cemetery.

Jacob Burch, the son of George and Minerva Jane (Harvill) Burch was born 5-12-1864 and died 11-6-1935. He is buried at Lax Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL. He married Rachel Emeline Dunham 10-12-1899 in Jersey County, IL. She was the daughter of Hugh and Martha Ann (Seago) Dunham. She was born 11-26-1873 in Jersey County, IL. She died 6-23-1956. She is buried at Lax Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL. She had been married before to John Strebel whom she married 4-23-1891 in Jersey County, IL. They had 2 children-Stella Strebel who died 5-26-1897 in St. Louis, MO, and Charles Strebel who died date unknown in South Dakota.

She grew up in the country and for a short time worked at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville. An independent woman, she dedicated herself to the principles of hard work, good ethics and helping others. She found true happiness working with her hands, whether it was in the fields, her garden or knitting afghans for various family members.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Henry Freand; three brothers, Harry, Fred and Ross Burch; and two sisters, Faye McAdams and Ellen Freand. Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Father William Hembrow officiated. Burial was in Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Kane Cemetery in care of the funeral home.

Marth Mae (Burch) Freand's husband Henry M. Freand was the son of Bernard and Rosa (Kraushaar) Freand. He was born in 1897 in English Township, Jersey County, IL, and died in 1972 in Jersey County, IL. He married Martha Mae Burch 4-2-1932. She was the daughter of Jacob and Emeline (Dunham) Burch and they lived in Kane, IL. His burial was in Kane Cemetery.

(2) Jacob and Rachel Emeline (Dunham) Burch's daughter Ellen M. Burch married Bernard and Rosa (Kraushaar) Freand's son Lewis A. Freand. He was born 4-6-1895 in English Township, Jersey County, IL, and died 5-6-1971 in Jersey County, IL. He married Ellen M. Burch 4-8-1918 in Jersey County, IL, the daughter of Jacob and Emeline (Dunham) Burch. She was born 7-2-1900. They lived in Jerseyville, IL. They are both buried at Lax Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL. They had these children-George L. Freand married Barbara A. Storey 1-2-1953, Nellie Freand, Ruby L. Freand married John H. Bailey 4-27-1933, and Frederick Freand (deceased), died 8-19-1997. He married Tracy (or maybe Tacy) Scott 3-10-1945 in ersey County, IL.

Frederick Freand's wife Tracy (Scott) Freand, 64, died April 23, 1989, at Jersey Community hospital. Born in Fieldon, her parents were the late Jim & Elizabeth (Smith) Scott.
Surviving are her husband, Fred Freand, whom she married March 10, 1945; 3 son, Frederick fr, Ronnie and Michael Freand, all of Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Rosie Woelfe, Jerseyville; 5 grandchildren; 5 brothers, John Scott, Fieldon and Herb, Jim, Charlie, and Steve Scott, Jerseyville; and 1 Sister, Rosie Denham, Jerseyville. Visitation and services were from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Doug Kalapp officiated and burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.

(3) Jacob and Rachel Emeline (Dunham) Burch's son Harry Lee Burch, 99, died at 2:21 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. Born Sept. 22, 1902, west of Kane, he was a son of the late Jacob and Rachel Emeline (Dunham) Burch. He married the former Elizabeth Turner March 1, 1924, in Carrollton. They shared nearly 74 years of marriage before her death Feb. 8, 2001. An avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, he was a grain and livestock farmer operating a farm in Linder Township of Greene County for many years with his wife. A resident of Greene County for many years, he was the director of the old Douglass and Bryan Country Schools and was a member of the Kane Baptist Church. They remained on their farm until health concerns necessitated their move to Jerseyville in 1989.
Surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Margaret and Jack Whitlock of Kane and Ethel Margeson and Mary Darr, both of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren, Kathryn Franklin, William Smith, Sheila Howard, Cheryl Darr, David Darr and Randy Margeson, all of Jerseyville, Cindy Edwards of Medora and Karen Decker of Brighton; 17 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and his last surviving sibling, May Freand of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by three children, Joyce June Burch, Robert Lee Burch and Gilbert Randall Burch; three sons-in-law, Darrell Smith, Darriel Margeson and Richard Darr; two sisters, Ellen Freand and Fay McAdams; and two brothers, Fred and Ross Burch. Visitation were from 4 to 8 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial was in Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Kane Baptist Church or to the Jerseyville Senior Citizens.

Harry Lee Burch's wife Elizabeth Bertha (Turner) Burch, 97, died at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. She was born Jan. 31, 1904, in Duluth, Ky., a daughter of the late Turp and Margaret (Allen) Turner. She married Harry L. Burch March 1, 1924, in Carrollton, and they have celebrated 76 years together. During their marriage, they lived on several farms in Greene County, mainly on the farm in Linder Township, where they lived for more than 40 years before they decided to move to Jerseyville in 1989.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Harry, are three daughters and a son-in-law, Margaret and Jack Whitlock of Kane and Ethel Margeson and Mary Darr, both of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren, Kathryn Franklin, William Smith, Sheila Howard, Cheryl Darr, David Darr, Cindy Edwards, Randy Margeson, all of Jerseyville, and Karen Decker of Brighton; 17 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and her last surviving sibling, Christina Carr Umphress of Kane.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Lee and Gilbert Randall Burch; a daughter, Joyce June; three brothers, Everett Turner, Jack Turner and Clarence "Static" Turner; two sisters, Lucy Prough and Ethel Ross; and three sons-in-law, Darrell Smith, Darriell Margeson and Richard Darr. Visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday with Rev. David Arnold officiating. She was laid to rest in Kane Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Jerseyville Senior Citizens Meals Program or Kane Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member.

(1a) Harry L. and Elizabeth (Turner) Burch's daughter Margaret (Burch) Smith Whitlock's obituary - Margaret E. Smith Whitlock, 82, died at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at the home of her daughter, Kathryn, after a long battle with cancer. She was born April 9, 1925, in Greene County, a daughter of Harry L. and Elizabeth (Turner) Burch. A 1943 graduate of Jersey Township High School, she worked for Norman and Kathryn Sinclair in their neighborhood grocery store as well as at Heisler's Bakery in Jerseyville. She married Darrell M. Smith on Sept. 26, 1942, in St. Charles, Mo. and they shared 47 years together and raised a family that consisted of three children. He died April 13, 1989. Later, she married Jack Whitlock of Kane on Nov. 11, 1993, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville. He survives. She began working at International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville before joining the staff at Jersey Savings and Loan on April 15, 1957. She remained a part of their team for 27 years, retiring June 18, 1984, as a senior vice president and managing officer of what was then called Heritage Savings and Loan. She continued to work there on a part-time basis until 1990 and sold real estate in the Jerseyville area in the early part of the 1990s.
In addition to her husband, surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William and Beverly Smith of Jerseyville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Jan Franklin and Sheila and Ron Schroeder, all of Jerseyville; two stepchildren and their spouses, Cindy and Charles McClary of Texas and Craig and Ann Whitlock of East Moline; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Gail and Phil Isringhausen, Diane and Rick Strebel, Doug Franklin, Debbie and Scott Blackorby, Mike Smith, Matt Howard, and Megan and Mike Reynolds, all of Jerseyville; 13 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; Lisa Senko, Brian McClary, Kelly Whitlock and Ryan Whitlock; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ethel Margeson and Mary Darr, both of Jerseyville. Besides her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Robert and Randall Burch and a sister, Joyce June Burch. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville and a prayer service will begin at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father William Hembrow officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools of Jerseyville or to Blessing Hospice of Greene County.
(4) Jacob and Rachel Emeline (Dunham) Burch's daughter Fay (Burch) McAdams - Homemaker, 4-30-98 - YOSEMITE LAKES PARK – Fay McAdams, a resident here for the past two years, died at home on April 21. She was 91. Services were held Monday at Yosemite Lakes Community Church, where she was a member, followed by burial at Oakhill Cemetery in Oakhurst. Arrangements were under the direction of Jay Chapel of Madera. Mrs. McAdams was born in Kane, Illinois. She had resided in Illinois all of her life until coming to Yosemite Lakes Park.
She was the mother of Audrey Ashlock, YLP; Sharon Garbott, Fresno; Helen Welch, Sebring, Florida; Remthem E. McAdams and E. Leroy McAdams, both of Manito, Illinois. Mrs. McAdams was the sister of Harry Burch and May Freand, both of Jerseyville, Illinois. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. (5) Jacob and Rachel Emeline (Dunham) Burch's son Fred L. Burch, born 03-26-1904, Greene County, Illinois, died 16-12-1979, buried Kane cemetery. Fred L. Burch, 74, of Kane, died Dec. 16, at Jersey Community hospital. Burch was born March 26, 1904 in Greene County. He was the son of Jacob & Rachel Emeline (Dunham) Burch. He married Thelma Greeene Apr. 24, 1944 in Jerseyville. He was a farmer.
Survivors are his wife; 2 sons, Norman Burch of Jerseyville and Herschel Burch of Fosterburg; 2 step sons, Norman Abbott of Columbia, SC and Robert Abbott of Grafton; 3 daughters, Rozella Hinson, Otterville, Ruth Crotchett of Shipman and Anna Robuck of Roodhouse; 1 brother, Harry Burch of Rockbridge; 3 sisters, Ella Freand of Jerseyville, Mae Freand of Kane and Fay Mcadams of Peoria; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Visitation and funeral were from Jacoby Brothers Funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev William Turner officiated and interment was in Kane cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society.
(6) Jacob and Rachel Emeline (Dunham) Burch's son Ross Henry Burch was born 11-14-1913 in Greene County, IL. He died in 1939. He is buried at Lax Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL.
