Godar, 59, died at 2:05 a.m. Monday Nov. 11, 1985 at Greenwood Manor nursing Home in Jerseyville. She was born in Jersey County, a daughter of Anna (Coleman) Griffin of Jerseyville and the late Wesley Griffin. On April 28, 1942, she married Alfred Godar, who survives.
In addition to her mother and husband, surviving are one son, Dwain of Fieldon; three daughters, Wanda Groppel, Theresa Killion and Sylvia Chandler, all of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Griffin of Washington and Virgil Griffin of Jerseyville; and two sisters. Eunice Kessler of Oregon and Jeneva McClintock of Arizona.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. William Hembrow as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the church where she was a member.

Viola (Griffin) Godar's husband Alfred Godar's obituary - Alfred Godar, 84, died at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis County after a brief illness. He was born Aug. 13, 1923, in Hardin, son of Paul Frederick and Theresa Agnes (Becker) Godar. He was raised in Hardin and married the former Viola Frances Griffin on April 28, 1942, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Alton. Shortly after their marriage, he entered World War II, serving with an elite bomb squad in Europe with the U.S. Air Force. After his honorable discharge, he returned home and began working at the Western in East Alton for a short time before he and his wife purchased a farm near Fieldon. He remained active in farming for many years and retired shortly after the death of his wife on Nov. 11, 1985. During the same time period, he also served as road commissioner for English Township for 20 years.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dwain and Roberta Godar of Eldred; three daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Ted Groppel, Theresa and Richard Killion, and Sylvia "Sug" and David Chandler, all of Jerseyville; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Geraldine Krause of Kane, Elaine Turner of Alton, Donna Droege of St. Charles, Mo., and Melba Tepen of Hardin; as well as his former wife, Dorothy, and her daughter, Juanita. In addition to his wife, Viola, he was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Manuel, Cecil, Romeo and Patrick Godar; and two sisters, Rosalee Beiermann and Alice Baalman. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary recitation at 4 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday, April 4, at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow as celebrant. He will be buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fieldon with military graveside rites conducted by Jerseyville American Legion Post 492. Memorials may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools of Jerseyville or to Masses.
(2) Wesley Charles Griffin and Anna (Westfall) Griffin's son Melvin Griffin was born in Jersey County, IL, and died in Alton, Madison County, IL in his 40's of a heart attack. He worked at Owens Glass Company in Alton. He died in the 1970's. He was married and had 4 children.

He was born Aug. 2, 1942, in Dow, the son of Lee A. Sr. and Sylvia M. (Williams) Decker, now deceased. He married the former Sylvia A. Breden of Jerseyville. He later married the former Sondra Duggan Jan. 3, 1989, in Tennessee, and she survives. He retired from Laclede Steel Company in Alton. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville.
In addition to his wife, Sondra Decker of Branson, surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Amanda Decker of Roxana; three daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Christopher Griffin, and Michelle and Steve Hallstead of Jerseyville, and Cindy and Mark Wagner of Fieldon; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Sally Stahlschmidt of Alton; and a brother, Sam Decker of Galesburg, Ill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Taylor Decker, and a brother, Wayne "Gene" Decker. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with prayer service at 3:45 p.m. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with Fr. William Hembrow officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association.

Born Aug. 9, 1948, in Carrollton, she was a daughter of Eunice Marie (Griffin) Kessler of Portland, Ore., and the late Lewis George Kessler. She married Roland "Ed" Essen March 13, 1970, in St. Charles, Mo. He survives. In addition to her husband and mother, surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Jeanette Essen of Portland and Cindy K. and Ken Tripp of Portland; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Amanda Essen of Carrollton; and five grandsons, Nick, Mark, Josh, Joe and Jacob.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Tri-County Vietnam Veterans Association. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Delbert Essen will officiate at services at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in the Grimes-Neely Cemetery, west of Jerseyville. Lloyd and Geneva (Griffin) McClintock had a son, John McClintock Sr. of Jerseyville; four grandchildren, John McClintock Jr. of Moline, Ill., and Erikia McClintock, Lance McClintock and Alex McClintock, all of Jerseyville and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Riley McClintock and Chloe McClintock.

She was the daughter of George and Gertrude (Parker) Talley. Wilma was born July 31, 1930 (died 3-4-91 age 60 of breast cancer), and they had 4 children-Ronald Harold Griffin, David Wesley Griffin, Rosemary Yvonne Griffin, and Mitchell Harold Griffin. Harold remarried after his first wife Wilma's death to Alice.

Harold Griffin also married Juliette Morgan 7-12-1946 in Jersey County, IL. I don't have any other information about the marriage or if they had children. I had heard she was from another state, and returned there after the marriage ended, and that they had a child, a daughter I believe, but I don't know if the information is correct, nor the name or date of birth of their daughter if they had a child.

My father's sister Anna Westfall remarried after the death of her first husband Wesley Charles Griffin to Raymond Bates who died as a result of a tragic mowing accident while working for the State Highway Department.

(1) James and Caroline (Kanallakan) Pegue's son George Fred Pegue's obituary - PEGUE. 21 August 1972: Funeral mass for George fred Pegue, 92, a retired farmer in Jersey County, will be celebrated this morning (thurs) at 9:30 o'clock at the Holy Ghost church in Jerseyville, Father Robert Heintz celebrant. His death occurred Monday evening at St. Joseph's hospital in Alton. Mr. Pegue had been hospitalized since undergoing surgery for a hip fracture sustained in a fall at his home. He was born 14 September 1879 in Jersey County, a son of James and Caroline Kanallakan Pegue.
His wife, the former Mary Ellen Levene, died in 1957. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Carroll and Mrs. Dorothy Allen of Jerseyville, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, three sons, three daughters and one brother. Visitation hours were held Wednesday at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home where the rosary was recited at 8:00 in the evening.

Surviving is 1 son, John Lawrence Greeling of Burk Burnnett, TX; 2 brothers, Donald and Russell, both of Godfrey; and 6 sisters, Vivian Monke, Beneld, Juanita Rose of Godfrey, Mary Bick, Elk City, OK, Viola Huebner of East Alton, Wanda King of Dow and Doris Hickman, Monroe City, MO. Funeral services were held February 18, at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev Robert Browder of Peace United church officiated. Burial was at Valhalla Memorial Park, Godfrey. Memorials may be given to retarded children fund.

He married Wilhelmina (Minnie) C. Antrae 1-5-1903 in Jersey County, IL. She died 3-4-1956. She is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. Mr. & Mrs. Anthony Pegue served for 14 years as superintendents of Jersey County Poor Farm from 1928 to 1942.

She died 3 November 1983.
Surviving are a daughter, Ruth E. Walls of Decatur, Georgia, two grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Graveside services was conducted at noon Thursday at Oak Grove cemetery in Jerseyville. The Revs. Leland and David Walls officiated. She is survived by her Husband, Walter A. Kirchner whom she married 28 May 1927 in Jerseyville; one daughter, Ruth Walls of East Peoria; and two grandsons. The death of Mrs. Kirchner, who had resided at 101 Circle Drive, this city, the past two years, occurred Sunday morning, 15 May, at 2;30 o'clock at Waters Nursing Home where she had been for seven days.
Mrs. Kirchner, a daughter of the late Lewis and Emma Morman Spangle, was born in Jersey County on 14 March 1887 and her age at the time of death was 79 years, 2 months and 1 day. she had resided in the Otterville vicinity for many years and for several years served as a correspondent for the Democrat News. Her husband was the late William H. Kirchner. Surviving Mrs. Kirchner is one son, Lloyd H. Kirchner of Jerseyville, three grandchildren, one great grandchild and one sister, Mrs. John Hagen of Jerseyville.

He is survived by his wife, the Former Lyda Davis whom he married in 1948; three sons, Harold and Lloyd of Otterville and Kendall of east Alton; three grandchildren. He was a member of the Jersey County Farm Bureau. Visitation from 5 to 9 pm Monday at Jacoby Funeral Home. The American Diabetes Association has been named as the memorial.

Lloyd Henry Kirchner's wife - Lyda Belle Kirchner Bielau, 86, retired educator, died at 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2006, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 8, 1920, in Harrisburg to Rance and Opal (Rhoades) Davis. She married Lloyd Kirchner on June 18, 1948, in Alton. He died April 28, 1979. She married Hugo Bielau in 1997, and they lived in St. Louis until his death in 2005. She then returned to Jerseyville. She was a graduate of Shurtleff College and earned her master's degree in education from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. A longtime educator, she taught in Bethalto, Grafton and Jerseyville, retiring from West Elementary in 1978. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville and the Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Deb Kirchner of Forsyth; two stepsons and their spouses, Lloyd and JoAnn Kirchner and Harold and Sue Kirchner, all of Otterville; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Davis Akin.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Friday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. Ed Haun officiated. Burial was at Noble Cemetery in Otterville. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation or the Alzheimers Association. Mr. Kirchner was born in Jersey County, 5 July 1895, a son of the late Charles H. and Alvina Hooper Kirchner.
His age at the time of death was sixty-two years, one month and fifteen days. He was a long time employee of the Jerseyville branch of the International Shoe Company and was working there at the time the factory was closed. Surviving the decedent are his wife, Mrs. Retta Kirchner of Jerseyville; two brothers, William Kirchner of Otterville and Walter Kirchner of Jerseyville and one sister, Mrs. Paul (Louisa) Wock of Fieldon.

Unknown newspaper, 1 November 1956: "Kirchner funeral rites were held here Wednesday" - Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home at three o'clock Wednesday afternoon, 31 October 1956 for Jesse Benjamin Kirchner, farmer of route one, Jerseyville, whose death occurred at six forty five o'clock Monday morning at the Jersey Community Hospital where he had been admitted for medical treatment on Saturday. Rev. Kenneth Bower of Brighton officiated at the services and interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. Mr. Kirchner, a World War I veteran, was born in Jersey County, 16 February 1890, and at the time of his death he was aged sixty-six years, eight months and thirteen days. His wife, Mrs. Marie Ahrling Kirchner, preceded him in death.
The decedent is survived by one son, John O. "Bud" Rothe, 69, died at 6:40 pm Friday, September 21, 1990, at home after a short illness. He retired in 1981 as a carpenter from Amco Oil Company in Wood River after 38 years of service. Born in Jersey County, he was the son of the late Otto F. & Lillie (Down) Rothe. He married the former Charlotte Kirchner on June 14, 1941, in St. Charles, Missouri.
Surviving are his wife; 3 daughters, Carol Nichol of St. Cloud, MN, Sharon Knepper of Oxford, Maxx, and Linda Bishop of Madison, WI; 6 grandchildren; 6 Sisters, Eileen Voorhees and Della Freeman, both of Brighton, Evelyn Mundy and Verna Hewitt, both of Godfrey, and Ina Lowis and Nina Darr, both of Piasa; and 5 brothers, Melvin and Frank Rothe, both of Brighton, Charles and Wilbur Rothe, both of Jerseyville, and Robert Rothe of Kane. Visitation is from 4-8 pm today at Targhetta Funeral Home in Brighton, and will continue from 8:30 am Monday until service time at 10:30 am at First Presbyterian church in Brighton. Rev. Dave Dennis will officiate. Burial is in Brighton cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church, where he was a member, or the American Cancer Society.
(5) Charles and Alvena (Hooper) Kirchner's daughter Louesa L. (Kirchner) Wock, 92, of Jerseyville, died March 1, 1980 at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home, Jerseyville. She was born in Otterville on March 1, 1887, daughter of the late Charles H & Alvina (Hooper) Kirchner. She was the widow of Paul Wock, who died December 26, 1959.
Surviving are 1 son, Laverne Wock, Jerseyville; 1 brother, Walter Kirchner, Jerseyville; 3 grandchildren and 7 g-grandchildren. Her parents, husband, 5 brothers and 1 sister preceded her in death. Visitation and services were at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Clay Noah Jr, officiated and burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to charity of choice.

Louesa L. (Kirchner) Wock's husband Paul Peter Wock, 76, retired farmer of English Township, died December 28, 1959 at Jersey Community hospital where he had been a patient for the past week. Final rites were held December 30, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Earl Dickey, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiated and interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery. He was son of the late John & Theresa (Drainer) Wock and was born in Jersey County, December 18, 1883.
Surviving are his wife, Louesa (Kirchner) Wock, Fieldon; 1 son, Laverne Wock, Jerseyville implement dealer; 3 granddaughters; 3 brothers, John, Edward and Louis Wock, Jerseyville; 3 sisters, Mrs Peah Jilek, and Miss Lena Wock, Jerseyville and Mrs Clara Wartman of Pompana Beach, FL.

Paul and Louesa (Kirchner) Wock's son Laverne Lewis Wock, 77, died June 8, 1990 at DePaul Medical Center, St. Louis. In 1975, he retired as a machine operator from Rotary Ram, Godfrey and later retired as co-owner of Wock's New & Used Furniture, Jerseyville in 1988. Born in Otterville, he was the son of the late Paul & Louise (Kirchner) Wock. he married Catherine (Grothaus) Wock on May 6, 1936, in Jerseyville. She survives.
Also surviving are 3 daughters, Betty Scott, Alton, Gayle Willis, Delhi and Pauline Daougherty, Hannibal, MO; 7 grandchildren; and 5 g-grandchildren. Visitation was from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with rosary recitation. Jerseyville Moose Lodge 695, of which he was a charter member, conducted graveside rites. Funeral Mass was at Holy Ghost Church, Jerseyville with Rev William Hembrow as celebrant. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery, Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to American Heart Assoc or masses.
(6) Charles and Alvena (Hooper) Kirchner's son Frederick Kirchner was born 12-21-1884 and died 8-24-1940. He is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. He married Ida Bethel 11-8-1910 in Jersey County, IL. He died of a gunshot wound. I don't have any other information about Frederick Kirchner or his family.
(7) Charles and Alvena (Hooper) Kirchner had a daughter Dora Kirchner. I don't have any information about their daughter Dora Kirchner.
(8) Charles and Alvena (Hooper) Kirchner had another son who I have not been able to identify.
