She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Lucille Biederman, 80, died at Jersey Community hospital, May 31. Funeral services were held at Jacoby brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev James A. Connett officiated. Interment was in Oak Grove cemetery. She was born Feb. 23, 1893 in Jersey County the daughter of August & Lena (Spiers) Biederman. Only survivors were nieces and nephews.
John Vahle aka Johan Vahle
John Vahle, deceased, was born in Germany, July 25, 1817. He came to America when quite young, and settled in Maryland, where he remained a number of years, coming from there to Jersey county, Ill. He located in English township, where he purchased 80 acres of land, to which he afterwards added 40 acres. He was married in April 1852 to Mary M. Harris, daughter of Asa and Sarah Harris. They had eight children: Henry, now married to Dora Hooper, and living in English township; Louis, married to Lena Goetten, also living in English township; Anthony; Elizabeth, wife of Peter Dower; Caroline, Frank, and William. Mr. Vahle died March 18, 1873, and was buried in the Armstrong cemetery, in English township. Mrs. Vahle now owns 280 acres of land, with 200 acres in English township, and the remainder on section 10, Jersey township, where she now resides. Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Vahle has carried on the farm successfully, adding to it 160 acres, and making many improvements. The family are members of the Catholic church of Jerseyville.

Surviving him were his Wife, Theresa (Schroeder) Vahle, whom he married may 12, 1948 in Jerseyville; 1 Daughter, Jeanne Dick of Carlsbad, California; 1 son, Thomas A. Vahle of Alton; 4 grandchildren; 1 brother, Lamar Vahle of Jerseyville; and 2 sisters, Charlotte Bray and Marjorie Darr of Jerseyville. The funeral mass was celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic church, Godfrey with Rev. James Hill as celebrant. The Alton VFW conducted full military honors at the graveside at St. Patrick's cemetery, Alton. St. Ambrose church building fund and the American Cancer Society were suggested as memorials. Visitation at Gent Funeral Home, Alton.

Ralph "Tom" Vahle's wife Teresa A. (Schroeder) Vahle's obituary - Teresa A. (Schroeder) Vahle, 81, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, in Kingman. She was born Sept. 24, 1925, in Carrollton to William J. and Sophia (Holmes) Schroeder. She and Ralph W. "Tom" Vahle were married on May 12, 1948, in Jerseyville. He died on Aug. 8, 1982. Before retiring in 1992 and heading west, she worked as a special education teacher's aide for 15 years in the Alton School District. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, where she served in the Altar Society, and was a member of St. Patrick's in Carlsbad, Calif.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Frank Dick of Kingman; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas A. and Cheryl Vahle of Bethalto; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Stone of Springfield, Ill; and will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Lena (Behnem) Schroeder; three brothers; Jon, Charles and Christopher Schroeder; and two sisters, Rose Woolsey and Ethel Bruns.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Ambrose Catholic Church, with Father Steve Pohlman officiating. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant son, Steven; a sister, Evelyn Hardwick; a brother, Clayton Baker; and a son-in-law, Don Bartz. She was a member of Believers' Baptist Church. She had worked as a cook at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Carrollton for 10 years and as a janitor for the Carrollton Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, 4 brothers and 1 sister. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist church, Jerseyville, with Rev. R. E. George officiating. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery.

Vahle, 93, died at 7:45 a.m. Monday, May 26, 2008, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for the past three weeks. He was born in Fieldon May 8, 1915, the only child born to the late Edward and Matilda (Hagen) Vahle. He married the former Florence T. Klunk on April 12, 1939, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville. Together they had shared 69 years and the blessings that come with a happy marriage, a healthy life and the joys of six children. She survives. He grew up on the home place and continued to farm there his entire life. He took great pride in his farm, his family and his faith.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Gary Bland of Alton; five sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Laniece Vahle, James and Wanda Vahle, David and Debbie Vahle and Gary and Tina Vahle, all of Jerseyville, and Gregory Vahle of St. Louis; 15 grandchildren and their spouses, Dennis and Pam Bland of Edwardsville, Angie and Sam Kizer of Alton, Cathy and Mark Spiro of Arizona, Dawn Vahle of Albuquerque, N.M., Sandy Vahle, Vicky and Larry Welsh, Jamie and Joe Cannady, Theresa and Bill Zipprich, and Matt and Wendy Vahle, all of Jerseyville, Rosanna and Scott Walton of St. Louis, Chris Vahle and his fiancee, Bethany Darr, Brian and Lisa Vahle, Katie and Andy Wilkinson and Brad Vahle, all of Jerseyville, and Madelyn Vahle of St. Louis; and 21 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 3:45 p.m. prayer service, Wednesday, May 28, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 29, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville. Father William Hembrow will officiate. Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools or to Masses.

Edward C. Vahle's wife Florence T. (Klunk) Vahle's brother Harold Klunk's obituary - Harold Klunk, 94, died suddenly at 8:15 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at his residence. He was born Oct. 14, 1914, in Michael, one of four children born to the late Mathias and Kathryn (May) Klunk. He was a resident of Jersey County since he was 4, and was a 1933 graduate of Jersey Township High School. He proudly served his country during World War II with the U.S. Air Force, and always considered it a true honor to have been able to serve his country. Farming was the core of his life, and he was engaged in it his entire life. He assumed responsibilities for the family farm near Fieldon, and also worked with the Jersey County Farm Bureau for many years. He was of the Catholic faith and served on the board of MJM Cooperative for many years.
Surviving are two sisters, Florence Vahle of Jerseyville and Helen Klunk of St. Louis; nieces and nephews and their spouses, Pat and Harvey Harmon of Alton, William and Sandy Klunk of Jerseyville, Edward Klunk of Jerseyville, Elaine and Gary Bland of Alton, Donald and Laniece Vahle, James and Wanda Vahle, David and Debbie Vahle, Gary and Tina Vahle, all of Jerseyville, and Gregory Vahle of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond "Shorty" Klunk, and a special brother-in-law, Edward Vahle. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville where a prayer service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Fr. William Hembrow officiating. Burial will be at Saint Mary's Cemetery in Fieldon with the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 conducting military graveside rites. Vahle's wife Blanche Antionette (Williams) Vahle's obituary - Blanche Antionette (Williams) Vahle, 67 years, 10 months, 11 days, was dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital on New Year's Day 1-1-1967. She was the widow of Louis H. Vahle. Mrs Vahle was stricken ill at the home of Mrs. Clyda Daniels of E. Arch St. where she had gone to attend a potluck supper and card party. After becoming ill she was moved by ambulance to the hospital. Visitation and services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev H. O. Renken, pastor of Peace United Church of Christ, officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery.
She was the daughter of the late Oscar & Emaline (Goshorn) Williams and was born in Greene County, February 20, 1899. She was a member of Evangelical church, Woman's Relief Corps, Eagles Auxiliary, WWI Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors and Senior Citizens. Surviving are 1 son, Louis O. Vahle, Jerseyville; 1 daughter, Mrs. Arthur D. Powers, Grafton; her mother, Mrs. Oscar Williams, Jerseyville; 1 sister, Bertha; 3 grandchildren and 3 g-grandchildren. Her father and 1 sister preceded her in death.

"Louie" Vahle, 67, of rural Jerseyville, died March 10, 1987 at John Cochran Veterans' hospital, St. Louis. He was born December 10, 1919 in Fieldon to the late Louis H. & Blanche A. (Williams) Vahle. He served in the Army in WW II and for the past 13 years had been supervisor of the Illinois Valley Work Project at the Susnig Center in Jerseyville. He married Lida Marie (Cunningham) Vahle, July 6, 1941, in Jerseyville. He was a member of Moose Lodge, American Legion Post #492, VFW Post #4528 and First United Methodist church, Jerseyville.
Surviving are his wife, Lida; 3 sons, Roger, Kane, Ronald of Naples, Florida and Rodney of Jerseyville; 1 sister Emma Powers, Grafton; 7 grandchildren; and 3 g-grandchildren. The funeral was March 14, at First United Methodist church with Rev. Mike Michels officiating. Burial was in Fieldon cemetery, with graveside military rites by American Legion Post #492 and VFW Post #45280.

Louis Vahle's wife Lida Marie (Cunningham) Vahle's brother Clifton I. Cunningham's obituary - Clifton I. Cunningham, 82, died at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, April 6, 2008, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He went to his Lord with his family at his side. He loved his Lord, family and country. He was born March 23, 1926, in Alton to Clifton and Lula (Groppel) Cunningham. He married the former Betty Dabbs on Sept. 24, 1947, in Jerseyville. She survives. He served his country in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946, during World War II in France and Germany with the 82nd Airborne and from 1950 to 1952 with the 18th Combat Engineers during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation. He was a member of the Fieldon Baptist Church, Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and was a charter member of the World War II Memorial in New Orleans.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Terri and Gerald Scott of Fieldon, Trudy and Bob Pritchard of Palm Beach, Fla., and Tina and Gary Vahle of Jerseyville; a son and his wife, Todd and Penny Cunningham of Fieldon; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Rodney Allen of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Tab Cunningham; and a sister and her husband, Lida and Louis Vahle. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 10. Pastor Ralph Schultz will officiate. Burial will be at Gunterman Cemetery in Fieldon. Military graveside rites will be performed by American Legion Post 492 of Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the Fieldon Baptist Church or Gunterman Cemetery.

His parents and a stepson, Paul Miller, preceded him in death. Visitation will be from 4 until time of memorial services at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Mr. French was a son of the late William & Catherine (Kinney) French and was born in Jersey County December 13, 1888. He had been engaged in farming in Jersey County until his retirement 8 years ago. The family then moved to Jerseyville. He was a charter member of Jersey County Farm Bureau. Surviving are his wife, Augusta S. French, Jerseyville, 3 daughters, Mrs. John H. Powers, Jacksonville, Mrs. Kenneth Johnson, Elgin and Mrs. Aloys Heitzig, Jerseyville; 13 grandchildren; 8 g-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Mrs. Minnie Egelhoff, Jerseyville.

His wife Lizzie C. (Charnell) Vahle, 93, died 4-21-1967 at Cole Hospital in Urbana. The former Jerseyville resident was the daughter of the late William & Eliza (Healey) Charnell. Services were held at First United Methodist church, with Rev. Louis Purcell officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. Visitation was at Gubser Funeral Home.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Mrs. Earl W. (Esther) Shaw of Urbana, and Mrs. Velma Pellikan, Also of Urbana. The later daughter, was a teacher in the local school system for several years prior to 1954; 6 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren. Mrs. Vahle's husband, William Vahle's death occurred in 1958. She was also preceded in death by 1 son Sherrill.
