Ed "Heck" Cope

Ed "Heck" Cope was born in 1886 Jersey County, IL. He died in 1967. He is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. He married Dola Ontis 10-2-1907 in Jersey County, IL. She was born in 1887 and died in 1970. She is buried at Fieldon Cemetery. Ed "Heck" Cope and Dola (Ontis) Cope had 4 children-Irene Cope, Grace Cope, Lucille Cope, and James Cope.

(1) Ed "Heck" Cope and Dola (Ontis) Cope's daughter - Irene (Cope) Wadlow, Died 09-30-1991. Irene Wadlow, 83, died September 30, 1991, at her home, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Jersey County, November 25, 1907, a daughter of the late Ed "Heck" Cope & Dola (Ontis) Cope. She married George Wadlow Sr on September 24, 1923, in Alton. He died May 31, 1989.

Surviving are 1 son George, "Bud" Wadlow Jr of Jerseyville; 4 daughters, Thelma Moore of Flint, MI, Opal Molohon and Susan Godar, both of Jerseyville, and Peggy Ridenbark of Fieldon; 24 grandchildren; 47 g-grandchildren; 11 g-g-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Grace Gunterman and Lucille Maples, both of Jerseyville. Preceding her in death were 1 son, Stewart Wadlow; 1 daughter, Anna Grace DeSherlia; and 1 brother, James Cope. Visitation and services were from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev David Cauley officiated. Burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Soc.

Irene (Cope) Wadlow's husband - George Wadlow, Died 05-31-1989. George Wadlow Sr, 88, died May 31, 1989, at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville, after a length illness. Wadlow retired in 1963 as a construction laborer. He was born in Jersey County, son of the late Otho & Lula (Vinson) Wadlow. On September 24, 1923, in Alton, he married the former Irene Cope, and she survives.

Also surviving are 1 son, George "Bud" Wadlow Jr of Jerseyville; 4 daughters, Thelma Moore of Flint, MI, Peggy Ridenbark of Fieldon, and Opal Molohon and Susan Godar, both of Jerseyville; 24 grandchildren; 43 g-grandchildren; and 1 brother Howard Wadlow of Jerseyville. Preceding him in death were 1 son, Stewart Wadlow; 1 daughter, Anna DeSherlia; 1 brother, and 2 sisters. Visitation and service was held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev Dave Cauley officiated and burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to charity of one's choice.

(1a) George and Irene (Cope) Wadlow's son - Stewart L Wadlow Sr, Died 09-30-1084. Stewart L Wadlow Sr, 51, of Jerseyville, died September 30 at his home. He had been a driver of Kinestra for 28 years. He was born November 14, 1932 in Jersey County, son of George Sr & Irene (Cope) Wadlow who survive.

Leaves wife, the former Beatrice Pruitt whom he married July 12, 1952 in Otterville; 3 daughters, Barbara R Carey of Grafton, Linda L McIntyre of Kingwood, TX and Theresa Powers of Grafton; 1 son Stewart L Wadlow, Jr of Jerseyville; 7 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Peggy Ridenbark and Susan Godar of Feldon, Opal Molohon of Jerseyville; Thelma Moore, Flint, MI; and 1 brother, George "Bud" Wadlow of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by 1 sister. Masonic Rites at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Burial was in Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Soc.

(2a) George and Irene (Cope) Wadlow's daughter Opal (Wadlow) Molohon's husband - William David Molohon, Died 02-11-1986. Dated 26 February 1986: William David Molohon, 62, of Jerseyville, died February 11 at his residence. He was born August 31, 1923 in Colverport, Kentucky to the late William and Catherine (Wathen) Molohon. He married Opal Wadlow on June 6, 1970. He was a veteran of World War II and a TV repairman. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier church, the Jerseyville American Legion and VFW.

(3a) George and Irene (Cope) Wadlow's daughter - Anna Grace (Wadlow) Desherlia, Died 04-09-1981. Anna Grace Desherlia, 52, of Rural Route Fieldon was pronounced died at her home, April 9, from a gunshot wound. Visitation and services were held from Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Robert Barber of the Fieldon Baptist Church officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Born July 14, 1928 in Jersey County, she was a daughter of George & Irene (Cope) Wadlow Sr. She married Claude Desherlia in November 1947 in St. Louis.

Survivors her husband; her parents; 3 Sons, Chino Bob Desherlia, Rosewood Heights, Dale and Daniel R. of Fieldon; 5 grandchildren; 2 brothers, George "Bud" Wadlow and Stewart Wadlow of Jerseyville; 4 Sisters, Thelma Moore of Flint, Michigan, Opal Moholon, Peggy Ridenbark and Susie Godar, Fieldon. She was preceded in death by 1 son, 4 sisters and 1 brother. Memorials may be given to the heart fund.

(2) Ed "Heck" Cope and Dola (Ontis) Cope's daughter Grace (Cope) Gunterman's husband - Gerbert R Gunterman, 74, d. January 16 at Jersey County Memorial hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Rev Thurman Strange officiated, burial was in Fieldon cemetery. He was a farmer and was born August 29, 1900 in Fieldon, a son of Frank & Emma (Bethel) Gunterman. Surviving are his wife Grace (Cope) Gunterman; 3 sons, John of Chicago, Robert, Caseyville, and Wesley, Charleston, SC; 10 grandchildren; 4 g-grandchildren; 1 Brother Raymond Gunterman, Hardin and Rachel Mckinney of Jerseyville. His parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters, preceded him in death.

Claude L. Cope

Claude L. Cope was born in 1910 and died in 1971. He is buried in Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. He married James and Elizabeth (Kraushaar) Tucker's daughter Jessie S. Tucker. She was born in 1911 and died in 1971. She is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. She married Claude L. Cope 3-14-1928. Claude and Jessie (Tucker) Cope had these children-Nellie Cope, Dollie Cope, Doris Jean Cope, Gale Cope, Keith Cope, and LeRoy Cope.

(4) Claude and Jessie (Tucker) Cope's son Gale Cope was born July 2, 1941 in MI. He was married to Janet Marie Johnston of Sterling Heights MI on November 25, 1961.

(5) Claude and Jessie (Tucker) Cope's son - Keith C. Cope, 52, of Warren, Mich., formerly of the Fieldon area, died at 8:31 a.m. Saturday at Veteran's Administration Hospital in Allen Park, Mich. He was a master electrician and served in the U.S. Air Force. Born in Illinois, he was a son of the late Claude and Jessie (Tucker) Cope. Surviving him were a son, Robert K. Cope of Mattoon; two daughters, Cindy Negri of Great Falls, Mont., and Susan Chauvan of West Virginia Beach, Va., seven grandchildren; two brothers; and four sisters.

Bessie M. (Cope) Jaggers

Bessie M. (Cope) Jaggers, 89, died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Feb. 9, 1911, in Nutwood to the late Rolin and Lula (Ninesinger) Cope. A resident of Nutwood all her life, she owned and operated the Nutwood Grocery Store for 38 years before retiring.

She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Edgar Mallett and George Fisk. In 1961, she married Elbert "Buddy" Jaggers. He survives. Also surviving are cousins. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until time of services at 3 p.m. Sunday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with the Rev. Wilbur Cain officiating. Burial will follow in Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given in her name to the Rosedale/Nutwood Fire Department.

Bessie M. (Cope) Jaggers's husband - Elbert Wilson "Buddy" Jaggers, 89, died at 7:18 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born Sept. 25, 1912, in Kentucky. He and the former Bessie Cope were married nearly 40 years. She died Sept. 14, 2000. He was a master mechanic at a Buick garage in Alton before he and his wife owned and operated a grocery store in Nutwood.

Surviving are his close friends, Gene and Peggy Ridenbark, and their families, all of the Nutwood area. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ola, Leva and Mary. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. Friday until time of services at 11:30 a.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. Wilbur Cain will officiate. Burial will follow in Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Nutwood/Rosedale Fire Department.
