ILLINOIS SENATE RESOLUTION- WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were informed of the death of Mary K. Heitzig on December 30, 1996 in Jerseyville; and, Mary K. Heitzig was the oldest citizen of Jersey County, and was thought to be the oldest citizen of the State of Illinois; Mary K. Heitzig was born on April 13, 1885 in Beltrees, Illinois, the daughter of the late Joseph and Barbara Schmieder; she was united in holy matrimony with Joseph Heitzig in Fieldon on June 3, 1908, and to this union were born eleven children; Mary K. Heitzig was a lifelong member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, as well as being a member of the Altar Society and Quilters Group; Mary K. Heitzig and her husband raised eleven children on a farm outside of Jerseyville;

Mrs. Heitzig lived through four wars; saw the origin and ending of the Great Depression; witnessed the advent of microwave ovens, refrigerators, automobiles, airplanes, and electric stoves; and was present at the time women were first allowed the right to vote; Mary K. Heitzig will be remembered by the citizens of Jersey County as a hard working, religious woman who was well respected by her community, her church, her friends, and her family;

Mary K. Heitzig is survived by a large family which includes her two daughters Leona and Mary; her four sons Henry, Aloys, Joseph, and Bernard; her five daughters-in-law Bernice, Doris Lee, Eleanor, Leona, and MaryLou; her son-in-law Max; her two sisters Teresa and Ceil; thirty-seven grandchildren; seventy-eight great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great-grandchildren;

therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETIETH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the loss of Mary Heitzig and send to her family and friends our sincerest condolences; and be it further RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary K. Heitzig.

(1) Joseph and Mary (Schmieder) Heitzig's son Cletus Heitzig was born in 1909 near Fieldon, English Township, Jersey County, IL. He died in 1975 in Jersey County, IL. He is buried at St. Francis Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. He married Mary Witt Fleming 1-26-1935. She was born in 1909 in Jersey County, IL. She is deceased and is buried at St. Francis Cemetery in Jerseyville, IL. They had 2 children-David Heitzig and Mary Ann Heitzig.

(1a) Cletus and Mary (Fleming) Heitzig's son David Heitzig was born 8-30-1935 in Jersey County, IL, and died 9-29-2000 at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis, MO. David Heitzig married Mary Helen Carstens in 1961. They had 3 children-Steven Heitzig of White Hall, IL, Susan Heitzig who married Danny Rowling of Kane, IL, and Shela Heitzig of Aurora, Colo.

Cletus and Mary Witt (Fleming) Heitzig's son John David Heitzig's obituary - John David Heitzig, 65, died at 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis County. He was born in Alton on Aug. 30, 1935, one of two children born to the late Cletus and Mary Witt (Fleming) Heitzig. After graduating in 1953 from Jersey Community High School, David enlisted with the U.S. Air Force, where he served for a short time. After returning home, he returned to the family farm where he was the operator of his grain farm until his retirement. During that time, he also became employed at the State Bank of Jerseyville as a teller, eventually becoming a loan officer and the vice president at the time of his retirement May 31, 1984. David still maintained his position on the bank's Board of Directors, a seat he had held since 1971. He married the former Mary Helen Carstens in 1961, and they were the parents of three children. They divorced in 1982.

David is survived by his children and a son-in-law, Steven Heitzig of White Hall, Susan and Danny Rowling of Kane and Sheila Heitzig of Aurora, Colo.; three grandchildren, Haley, Amber and Nicholas; and his sister, Mary Ann "Sug" Rydzeski of Cutchogue, N.Y.; and a very special companion, Gloria Cornell of Jerseyville. A Mass of Celebration will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. today at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father D. Patrick Gibbons serving as celebrant. Memorials gifts may be given to the St. Francis/Holy Ghost Catholic Schools in Jerseyville or to masses. Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.

(2) Joseph and Mary (Schmieder) Heitzig's son Bernard John Heitzig was born 4-24-1918 near Fieldon, English Township, Jersey County, IL, and he died 4-4-2004 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyvile, IL. He was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL. He married Eleanor Eberlin 10-4-1941 at St. Norbert's Church in Hardin, IL. They had 7 children-Pat Heitzig, Mike Heitzig, Tom Heitzig, John Heitzig, Jerry Heitzig, Tony Heitzig, and Cathy "Coot" Heitzig all of Jerseyville, IL.

Bernard John Heitzig's obituary - Bernard John Heitzig, 85, died at 8:29 p.m. Sunday, April 4, 2004, in the emergency room at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. He was born April 24, 1918, in Jersey County, the seventh child of Joseph and Mary (Schmeider) Heitzig. On Oct. 4, 1941, he married the former Eleanor Eberlin at St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Hardin. She survives. He attended schools in Fieldon and in 1940 he and his brother, Vincent, went into farming together and formed Heitzig Brothers Farms. A devoted family man, he was active in his community serving for three years on the Jersey Community Unit 100 School Board, nearly 20 years on the English Township board and 20 years on the Jersey County Board, and received the Distinguished Service Award. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus fourth degree, lifetime member of the Farm Bureau, Moose Lodge and Elks Lodge.

In addition to his wife, surviving are a daughter, Cathy "Coot" Heitzig of Jerseyville; six sons and their wives, Pat and Karen Heitzig of Alton, Mike and Jane Heitzig, Tom and Cathie Heitzig, Jerry and Linda Heitzig, John and Sheri Heitzig, and Tony and Carol Heitzig, all of Jerseyville; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Margaret and Max Nowak of Jerseyville and Leona Green of Jerseyville; and two brothers and their wives, Henry and Bernice Heitzig and Aloys and Mary Lou Heitzig, all of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Becky Heitzig in 1982; three sisters, Katherine and Mary Heitzig and an infant; and three brothers, Cletus, Vincent and Joseph. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon with Father William Hembrow officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fieldon. Memorials may be given to St. Francis/Holy Ghost schools in Jerseyville or to Masses.

(3) Joseph and Mary (Schmieder) Heitzig's son Joseph Edwin Heitzig was born 9-27-1927 near Fieldon, English Township, Jersey County, IL, and died 10-25-2003 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He is buried at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jeseyville, IL. He married Frances Leona Collenberger 2-29-1948 at St. Francis Xavier Church in Jerseyville, IL. They had 4 children-Bill Heitzig of Panama City, Fla, Richard Heitzig of Jerseyville, IL, Robert Heitzig of Greenville, IL, and Mary Heitzig of Jerseyville, IL.

Joseph Edwin Heitzig's obituary - Joseph Edwin Heitzig, 76, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis after a sudden illness. He was born on the family farm near Fieldon on Sept. 27, 1927, the son of the late Joseph A. and Mary K. (Schmieder) Heitzig. He married the former Frances Leona Collenberger at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville on Feb. 29, 1948. She survives. He attended schools in Westwoods and graduated from Jersey Township High School in Jerseyville. He began working with his brothers on the family farm and worked for several grain elevators in Jerseyville, before he began his career as a truck driver for the Teamsters Local 600. He began with Riss and Co. in St. Louis, where he drove for two years, and then began his 36-year employment with Yellow Freight in St. Louis. After retirement, he was able to spend more time doing the things he truly loved, playing cards and trout fishing with his sons and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons and their spouses, Bill and Elizabeth Heitzig of Panama City, Fla., Richard and Diane Heitzig of Jerseyville, Robert and Cindy Heitzig of Greenville, Ill., Mark and Rochelle Heitzig of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren, Cody, Dillon, Gavin, Tracy, Nicki, Bill, Shon and Beth; one great-granddaughter, Madalyn Rose; two sisters, Mary Margaret Nowak and Leona Green, both of Jerseyville; and three brothers, Henry Heitzig, Bernard Heitzig and Aloys Heitzig, all of Jerseyville. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Vincent and Cletus Heitzig; and two sisters, Mary and Katherine Heitzig. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral Mass at noon Tuesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville. Frs. D. Patrick Gibbons and William Hembrow will officiate. Burial will be at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville. After committal services, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Jerseyville. (4) Joseph and Mary (Schmieder) Heitzig's son Aloys C. Heitzig was born near Fieldon, English Township, Jersey County, IL. He married Mary Lou French 9-23-1944.

(5) Joseph and Mary (Schmieder) Heitzig's son Vincent Heitzig was born 1-15-1912 near Fieldon, English Township, Jersey County, IL. He died 3-28-1988 in Jersey County, IL. He is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery near Fieldon, in English Township, Jersey County, IL. He married Doris Lee Long 12-27-1944 at St. Mary's Catholic Church near Fieldon, IL. She was born 3-31-1925, and 12-8-2000. She was the daughter of Thomas Long and Hazel (Mourning) Davis. They had 5 children-Vincent Edward Heitzig of Jerseyville, Debbie Heitzig who married Terry Dainer of Roselle, IL, BeBe Heitzig who married Mike Hodge of South Lake, Texas, Diane M. Heitzig who married Rick Bain of Jerseyville, IL, and Dennis Heitzig of St. Louis, Mo.

Vincent Heitzig's wife Doris Lee (Long) Heitzig's obituary - Doris Lee Heitzig, 75, died at 2 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2000, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She was born March 31, 1925, in Jerseyville, the daughter of Hazel (Mourning) Davis of Jerseyville, and the late Thomas Long. For many years, she lived on their farm near Fieldon, where she assisted on the farm and raised her family of five children alongside her husband, Vincent Heitzig, whom she married Dec. 27, 1944, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon. She lived on the farm until his death March 28, 1988, and moved to town shortly thereafter.

She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Vincent Edward and Judy Heitzig of Jerseyville, Debbie and Terry Drainer of Roselle, BeBe and Mike Hodge of South Lake, Texas, Dennis Heitzig of St. Louis and Dianna and Rick Bain of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and her brother, Richard Long of California. She is also survived by her care giver who became her dear friend, Mary Sterling. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fieldon. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.

(1a) Vincent and Doris Lee (Long) Heitzig's son - Vincent Edward Heitzig, 61, died at 9:10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at his home. He was born July 29, 1945, in Alton to Vincent and Doris Lee (Long) Heitzig. His marriage to the former Judy Hays took place on Aug. 10, 1979, in Jerseyville. She survives. He had been a farmer in Westwoods and was a member of the St. Mary's Westwoods Church, Jerseyville Moose, Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau, and a trustee with Richwood Township.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Nannette Heitzig of Jerseyville and Holly (Heitzig) and Robert Przygoda and their sons, Nathan and Kyle, of St. Louis; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Jeff and Lisa Allgood of Girard and their children, Justin, Jarrod, Jordan and Russtin, and Steve and Kathy Allgood of Wood River and their children, Josh, Blake, Zack, Ashley and Alicia; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Debbie (Heitzig) and Terry Drainer of Grafton, Beatrice (Heitzig) and Mike Hodge of Roanoke, Texas, Dianne (Heitzig) and Rick Bain of Grafton; one brother, Dennis Heitzig of St. Louis; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday at the St. Mary's Westwoods Church in Fieldon. The Rev. William H. Hembrow conducted funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial was at the St. Mary's Westwoods Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Masses or Blessing Hospice of Greene County. Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.

(6) Joseph and Mary (Schmieder) Heitzig's son Henry W. Heitzig was born near Fieldon, English Township, Jersey County, IL. He married Helen L. Handler 6-3-1944 in Jersey County, IL. She was born in 1920 and died in 1990. She is buried at St. Mary's Cemetery near Fieldon, English Township, Jersey County, IL. Henry later married Bernice Mary (Mossman) Ferguson Feb. 20, 1993, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville. She was born 11-30-1915 in Golden Eagle, Calhoun County, IL and died 10-9-2007 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. Her burial was in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Henry Heitzig's wife - Bernice Mary (Mossman) Ferguson Heitzig, 91, died at 11:18 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. Born Nov. 30, 1915, in southern Calhoun County in Golden Eagle, she was the middle child of Louis and Mary (Horman) Mossman. She attended Fruitland School, a one-room schoolhouse located near the Golden Eagle Ferry, as well as parochial schools in Brussels. She graduated from Jersey Township High School with the class of 1933. In her early years, she was employed as a dental assistant in the practice of Dr. Bryan Caffery until her marriage in 1935 to Lawrence Samuel Ferguson. They were married at St. Francis Xavier Church by Father J.J. Clancy and they shared the responsibilities and joys of raising four sons. They were married for 43 years and he died in May 1978. In 1989, she married Earl McNear and he died four years later. In 1992, she moved to Jerseyville, where she was again blessed. She met Henry Heitzig and they married on Feb. 20, 1993, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville. They have enjoyed 14 years together.

Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Marjorie Ferguson of Alton, Ronald and Lela Ferguson of Jerseyville, David and Kathleen Ferguson of Oxford, Conn. and Joseph and Terry Ferguson of Davenport, Fla.; two stepdaughters and their spouses, Linda and Roger Diestelhorst and Penny and TJ Meyer, all of Springfield; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Julie and Bill Christiansen, Claude and Jennifer Ferguson, all of Jerseyville, Nancy and Kenny Scott and Michael Ferguson, all of Fieldon, Mary Ellen and Jim Sabitini of Affton, Mo., Beth and Wayne Watts of Hillsboro, Mo., Susan and Scott Turner of Casper, Wyo., Kathy and Bob Carr of Edwardsville, Patty Ferguson of Columbia, Mo., and Patrick, Ann and Grace Erin Ferguson of Oxford; six stepgrandchildren, Lori and Peggianne Christiansen, Michael Meyer, Kelly Meyer, Heidi Hampton, and Hans Diestelhorst; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Held of Brussels. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Frank Mossman. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where a rosary recitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville with Father William Hembrow officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to Father William Hembrow Center in Jerseyville or to masses.

(7) Joseph and Mary (Schmieder) Heitzig's daughter Leona Heitzig was born near Fieldon, English Township, Jersey County, IL. She married Richard Green 2-12-1947 in Jersey County, IL.

Henry J. Depper

Henry J. Depper married Caroline Volkert. Henry and Caroline (Volkert) Depper had 7 children-Edward Pearl Depper, Bertha Henrietta Fredricka Depper, Grace D. Depper, Alice Laura Depper, Henry Depper, Roy Depper, and Ben Depper.

(1) Henry and Caroline (Volkert) Depper's son Edward Pearl Depper died 11-20-1959. Buried Valhalla cemetery. Edward Pearl Depper, 65 years, 7 months, 21 days, died November 20. Funeral services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville, November 23. The Grafton resident was born in Calhoun County, March 25, 1894, a son of the late Henry J. & Caroline (Volkert) Depper. Until his health failed he had followed the carpentry trade.

Surviving are his wife, Lucy Depper; 1 daughter, Mrs. Orville Hoelscher of Godfrey; 3 sons, Edward R. Depper of Fieldon, Richard Depper of Utica, Michigan, and James Depper of Red Bud; 3 sisters, Mrs. Max Zimmerman of Grafton, Mrs. George Grizzle of Jerseyville, and Mrs. Wilbur Williams of Rockbridge, 10 grandchildren and 5 g-grandchildren.

(1a) Edward and Lucy (Reed) Depper's son Edward R. Depper was married to Doris (I don't know her maiden name). (Note: He farmed in the Fieldon, IL area in the 1950's and 1960's near my father Walter Edward "Ed" Westfall's farm when I was a boy, and I went to school with his son Edward "Buddy" Depper.) Edward R. Depper later moved from the Fieldon, Jersey County, IL area, and farmed in the Calhoun County, IL area. Edward and Doris Depper had 3 children-Edward "Buddy" Depper, Jeanie Depper, and Terry Depper.

(2a) Edward and Lucy (Reed) Depper's daughter Anna Depper's husband - Orville E. Hoelscher, 89, died at 3:25 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Alton Memorial Hospital. He was born May 5, 1914, in Okawville, Ill., to Henry and Rose (Englehart) Hoelscher. He married the former Anna M. Depper in 1946 in Carlyle, Ill. She lives in Grafton. A U.S. Army veteran, he was a self-employed auto body repair shop owner/operator. He also was an accomplished artist and sculptor, working with welding steel rods and turning out realistic pieces that ranged from American Indians on horseback to unusual-looking garden ornaments. He sculpted the "Wind River Spirit" statue in Grafton as well as many other creative pieces and helped form the Greater Mississippi Arts Council during the 1970s, serving as vice president.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Dallas Elfgen of Dow; six grandchildren, Joe and Jim Romano, Carmen Schenato, Robert and Brenda Elfgen and Kasey Robinson; two great-grandchildren, Katey Robinson and Jessica Romano; a sister, Bernice Furtwengler of Bonne Terre, Mo.; a brother, Roy Hoelscher of Bonne Terre; and a nephew and his wife, Joe and Joanne Hoelscher of Breese, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Henry, Earl and Jack Hoelscher. Services was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. The Rev. Charles Schwaab officiated. Burial was at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to the American Arthritis Foundation.

(3a) Edward and Lucy (Reed) Depper's son James Depper's wife Fern (Tolle) Depper's obituary - Fern L. Tolle Depper, 79, died at 10:20 a.m. Sunday, April 13, 2008, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehab Center in Hardin. She was born March 11, 1929, in Godfrey to George and Bessie (Watson) Tolle. She married James L. Depper on Dec. 1, 1950, in Grafton, and he survives. In her early years of marriage, she was a hostess at Pere Marquette Lodge. She and her husband ran the Giant City Lodge in Giant City State Park for 21 years and also owned a cattle farm near Cobden, Ill., during those years. Beginning in 1983, they owned and operated Deppers Restaurant in North Alton for many years.

Surviving are two brothers, James and George Tolle of Godfrey; three sisters, Mary Pohlman of Godfrey, Shirley Warner of Godfrey and Helen Hickerson of Alton. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara Beard, Mina Burns and Alma DeSherlia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 17, with the Rev. Chris Hucker officiating. (2) Henry and Caroline (Volkert) Depper's daughter - Bertha Henrietta Fredricka (Depper) Zimmerman died 05-03-1978. Mrs. Bertha Henrietta Fredricka Zimmerman, 82, of Rural Route 1 Grafton was dead on arrival at 4:10 pm may 3 at Jersey Community hospital. Born February 28, 1896 in Brussels, she was a daughter of Henry & Carolyn Depper. She married Maximillian Earhart Zimmerman August 5, 1914 in Carrollton. He died November 11,1962.

Her survivors are 3 sons, Max and Donald of Grafton and Russell of Alton; 2 Daughters, Alice Young of Alton and Doris Cates of Carrollton, oh; 2 Sisters, Grace Grizzle of Jerseyville and Alice Williams of Rockbridge; 12 grandchildren; 5 g-grandchildren. Her parents, husband, 1 daughter, 4 brothers and 1 sister preceded her in death. Visitation will be after 4 pm May 5 at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be conducted at 2 pm Saturday at the Funeral Home by Rev. James Pepper. Burial will be in Scenic Hill cemetery, Grafton. Memorials may be given to the heart fund and American Cancer Society.

Max E. & Bertha (Depper) Zimmerman Sr's son - Russell L. Zimmerman, 62, died at 12:10 pm Sunday, January 1, 1989 at Alton Memorial hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Jersey County, he was the son of the late Max E. & Bertha (Depper) Zimmerman Sr. On March 29, 1951, in Pocahontas, Arkansas, he married Kathleen (Lagemann) Zimmerman and she survives.

Also surviving are 3 daughters, Terri White of Grafton, Linda Zimmerman of Pueble, Oc, and Sheila Zimmerman Roe of Alton; 2 brothers, Max and Donald Zimmerman, both of Grafton; and 2 Sisters, Alice Young of Alton and Doris Cates of Belle Fontaine, Ohio. 1 sister preceded him in death. Visitation was 11 am Wednesday until time of services at 1 pm at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Alton. Rev. Kenneth C. Dobson officiated. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian church of Alton building fund.

(3) Henry and Caroline (Volkert) Depper's daughter - Grace D. (Depper) Grizzle, 87, of Jerseyville d. April 10, at St. Joseph hospital, Alton. She was a home maker, former cook at a local restaurant, and a former nurse's aide at a local nursing home. She was born February 18, 1902 in Calhoun county to Henry & Caroline (Valkart) Depper. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Jerseyville and Women of the Moose Lodge 695. In April 1920, she married Charles Humiston, who d. April 28, 1964. On January 30, 1949, in Jerseyville, she married George R Grizzle who d. February 14, 1986.

Surviving are 2 daughter, Juanita Dabbs, Jerseyville and Florence Humiston, Payson, AZ; 1 son, Darrell Humiston, Scottsdale, AZ; 17 grandchildren; 11 g-grandchildren- 1 g-g-grandchild; and 1 sister, Alice Williams of Rockbridge. She was preceded in death by 1 son, Francis Humiston; 1 sister Betha Zimmerman; 4 brothers, Roy, Ben, Henry and Edward Depper. Funeral Services were held April 13 at Assembly of God Church. Burial was in Kane cemetery. Rev Lary Hayes and Rev Darrin Hughes officiated. Arrangements in charge of Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to Assembly of God Church.

(4) Henry and Caroline (Volkert) Depper's daughter - Alice Laura (Depper) Williams, 92, died at 5:57 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Boyd Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. She was born April 9, 1909, in Dow to the late Henry J. and Caroline (Volkert) Depper. She married Wilbur C. Williams June 22, 1932, in Carrollton. He died Feb. 26, 1991. A 1928 graduate of Jerseyville Township High School, she had been a schoolteacher and served as Rockbridge postmistress for 30 years, retiring July 1990. A member of the Rockbridge United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the Rockbridge United Methodist Women, having served as president for five years, and was vice president at the time of her death. She was treasurer of Witt Cemetery Association, Rockbridge I Precinct committeewoman, member of the Greene County Democratic Women's Club, Royal Neighbors of America, Tri County Postal Association and Jerseyville Moose Lodge Auxiliary.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Adele and Dale Justice of Bethalto; a son, Charles E. "Bud" Williams of Greenfield; seven grandchildren, Jana and her husband, George Moran Jr., of Granite City, Brian Justice of Godfrey, Kevin and his wife, Diane Williams, Diana and her husband, Steve Schirz, and Lori and her husband, Gale Joyce, all of Greenfield, Jeff Williams of Hazelwood and Julie Stribling of Ashland, Ill.; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Bertha Zimmerman, Grace Grizzle and an infant, and four brothers, Henry, Roy, Edward and Ben Depper. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Shields Memorial Home in Greenfield. The Rev. James Schuetz officiated at services at 1:30 p.m. at the Rockbridge United Methodist Church. Burial followed at Witt Cemetery in Rockbridge. Memorials may be given to the Rockbridge United Methodist Church or Witt Cemetery.
