Zadock Bowen Ayres was born 6-24-1860 in Jersey County, IL. He was the son of Zadock and Rebecca (Mills) Ayres who were born in South Carolina. He died 6-30-1931 in Jersey County, IL. He is buried at Noble Cemetery, Otter Creek Tonship, Jersey County, IL. He married Ruth Olive Stone. She was born 12-13-1864 and died 3-11-1936 in Jersey County, IL. She is buried at Noble Cemetery, Otter Creek Tonship, Jersey County, IL. She was the daughter of Simon Foster Stone (wife's maiden name may have been Daniels). Zadock and Ruth (Stone) Ayres had 9 children-Mabel E. Ayres, Ernest Ayres, Clarence Ayres, Daniel I. Ayres, Immanuel Ayres, Myrtle Ayres, Isaac Ayres, Lee Roy Ayres, and another daughter whom I have been unable to identify.
(1) Zadock and Ruth (Stone) Ayres's daughter - Mabel E. (Ayres) Wade, died 07-26-1980. Mabel E. Wade, 82, of Jerseyville, died at Jersey Community hospital, on July 26. She was born December 10, 1897 in Brinkley, Arkansas, The daughter of Zadock & Ruth (Stone) Ayres. She married Heber Andrew Wade and he died June 19, 1962. She was a member of the Jerseyville Eastern Star #656, Jersey County Homemakers Ext, Creative Gardners of Jersey County and Gold Star Mothers.
She is survived by 10 daughters, Esther Yocom, Florence Butler, Mary Stiller and Ruth Cook all of Jerseyville, Irene Sample, Brighton, Virginia Wendt, Macomb, Helen Sunn, St. Louis, MO, Laura Jamieson, Quincy, Joyce Plume, Wilmington and Ida May Anderson of Kane; 3 sons, James and Charles of Jerseyville and Robert of Moore, OK; 27 grandchildren, 14 g-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Daniel Ayres of Port Richey, FL and Immanuel Ayres of Alton; 1 sister, Myrtle Watt of Alton. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, 1 grandchild, 1 sister and 4 brothers. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev James Boyer of Jerseyville Community Christian Church officiating. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Jerseyville Community Christian church.

Mabel (Ayres) Wade's husband - Heber Andrew Wade, died 07-19-1962. Heber Andrew Wade, 70 years, 7 months, and 12 days, a farmer residing NE of Jerseyville, died at his home June 19. His health had been impaired for some time. He was a son of the late William A & Elvira (Gorham) Wade, and was born in Jersey County, November 7, 1891.
The decedent is survived by his wife, Mrs Mabel Ayers Wade; 3 sons, James A Wade of Shreveport, LA, Charles V Wade and Robert D Wade of Jerseyville; 10 daughters, Mrs Truman (Esther) Yocom and Miss Ruth Wade of Jerseyville, Mrs Eugene (Florence) Butler of New Lenox, Mrs Buford (Irene) Sample, Brighton, Mrs Arnold (Virginia) Wendt of Macomb, Mrs Edgar (Helen) Sunn of St. Louis, MO, Miss Laura Wade of Carbondale, Mrs Cecil (Mary) Stillar of Alton, Mrs Walter (Joyce) Plume of Wilmington, and Mrs Richard (Ida May) Anderson of Kane; 20 grandchildren; 2 g-grandchildren, and 1 sister, Mrs Florence Barnes of Jerseyville. Two Sons, Everett Heber and Marion Lee Wade preceded him in death. Everett was killed in action in the Korean war.
Mr Wade was a member of the Jerseyville Lodge #394 AF & AM, and Eagles Lodge of Jerseyville. Services were held at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev James Barnett of Dow and Rev Mode Powell of Jerseyville officiated and Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

(1a) Heber and Mabel (Ayres) Wade's son - James A. Wade, died 06-26-1982. James A Wade, 58, of Jerseyville, suffered a heart attack at his home and was dead on arrival at Jersey Community hospital on June 26. Wade was Born March 3, 1924 in E Newbern the son of Heber & Mabel (Ayers) Wade. He married Emmalu Zigenfuss February 27, 1948 in Alton. He served in the Army in WW II and was a roofing materials salesman. He was a member of the Jerseyville American Legion, VFW, a past master of Jerseyville Masonic Lodge and United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, 1 son, James Wade Jr, of Bunker Hill; 3 daughters, Millie Stout, Anderson, MO, Alyis Wade, Jerseyville and Julie Snider of Jacksonville; 2 brothers Charles Wade, Jerseyville and Robert Wade of Oklahoma and 10 sisters, Esther Yocom, Florence Butler, Mary Stillar and Ruth Cook, all of Jerseyville, Virginia Wende, Macomb, Irene Sample, Brighton, Helen Smith, St. Louis, MO, Laura Jamieson, Quincy, Joyce Plume, Wilmington and Ida Mae Anderson of Kane, and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers. A memorial service was held June 28 at United Methodist Church, Rev R E George officiating. The body was cremated at Memorial Park in St. Louis, Missouri. The United Methodist Church has been designated as a memorial.

(2a) Heber and Mabel (Ayres) Wade's daughter - Esther E. (Wade) Yocom, 71, died at 12:19 am today, January 5, 1989, at Jersey Community hospital, Jerseyville. She was born in Jersey County, daughter of the Late Heber & Mabel E. (Ayres) Wade. On August 8, 1948, in Jerseyville, she married Truman R. Yocom, and he survives.
Also surviving are her son, Jersey County Sheriff Frank Yocom of Jerseyville; 2 grandchildren; 3 g-grandchildren; 9 sisters, Florence Butler, Mary Stillar and Ruth Cook, all of Jerseyville, Irene Sample of Brighton, Virginia Wendt of McComb, Helen Sunn of St. Louis, Laura Jamieson of Quincy, Mabel Joyce Plume of Wilmington and Ida Mae Anderson of Kane; and 2 brothers, Charles Wade of Jerseyville and Robert Wade of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Preceding her in death were 1 son Randall Yocom; and 3 brothers, Everett, Marion Lee and James Wade.
Visitation is 4-9 pm Friday at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Order of Eastern Star, Jerseyville Lodge 656, will conduct rites at 7 pm. Funeral services are at 10:30 am Saturday at the Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Epperly officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Diabetes Foundation or First Baptist church of Jerseyville, where Mrs. Yocom had been a member.

(3a) Heber and Mabel (Ayres) Wade's daughter - Florence Olive (Wade) Butler, 84, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, under hospice care at her daughter's in Flossmorr, Ill. She was born Aug. 13, 1918, in East Newbern, Ill., one of 15 children of Heber Andrew and Mabel Esther (Ayers) Wade. She obtained her bachelor of science degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and her master's from the University of Illinois. She was in the educational field, retiring as a home economic teacher from Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park. A member of the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville, she was also active in the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and Jersey County Historical Society.
She married Harry Eugene Butler on July 3, 1941, in Carbondale. He died Sept. 4, 1995. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and William Moser of Flossmorr; eight sisters and brothers-in-law, Inez Irene and Buford Sample of Brighton, Virginia Myrtle and Arnold Wendt of Macomb, Ill., Helen Marie Sunn, Laura Jean Jamieson and Mary Josephine Stillar, all of Jerseyville, Mabel Joyce and Walter Plume of Wilmington, Ill., Ruth Aleta Cook and Ida May and Jake Pickel of Jerseyville; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Charles Vernon Wade of Jerseyville and Robert Daniel and Oleta Wade of Commerce, Okla.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a grandson, Daniel William Moser, in 1993; three brothers, Marion Lee Wade, Everett Heber Wade and James Andrew Wade; a sister, Esther Yocom; and four brothers-in-law, Edgar Sunn, George Jamieson, Cecil Stillar and Glenn Cook. Graveside services were conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Kane Cemetery, with the Rev. Chris Horton officiating. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society. Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.

(6a) Heber and Mabel (Ayres) Wade's daughter - Irene W. (Wade) Sample, 86, died at 9:40 a.m. Monday, May 15, 2006, at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville, where she had been a resident for the past several years. Born Nov. 13, 1919, in Dow, she was one of 15 children of Heber and Mabel (Ayres) Wade. A graduate of Jersey Township High School, she obtained her bachelor's degree in education from McKendree College in Lebanon. She began her long and dedicated teaching career in Jersey County in Otterville and went on to teach in Kemper and Jerseyville, until she retired to stay home and care for her four children after they were born. In 1963, she returned to the educational field, serving as the second-grade teacher at Delhi Elementary with the Jersey School District for 17 years, retiring in 1980.
She married Buford Sample on Aug. 8, 1943, in Jerseyville. He survives. Also surviving are four children and their spouses, Lawrence Ray and Donna Sample of Genoa, Nev., David and Rosalyn Sample of Monument, Colo., William and Kathy Sample of Morrow, Ohio, and Joann and Steven Kemp of Strafford, Mo.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Wade of Jerseyville; seven sisters, Virginia Wendt of Macomb, Helen Sunn, Laura Jamieson, Mary Stillar, Ruth Cook and Ida May Pickel, all of Jerseyville, and Mabel Plume of Wilmington; and her caregiver and dear friend, Linda Johnson of Shipman. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Esther Yocom and Florence Butler; and four brothers, Robert, Everett, Lee and James Wade. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Dow Southern Baptist Church, where she was an active member. The Rev. David Brown officiated. Burial was in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be given to the Dow Southern Baptist Church.

(8a) Heber and Mabel (Ayres) Wade's daughter - Helen Marie (Wade) Sunn, 84, died Sunday, June 25, 2006, at Greenwood Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. The fifth of 15 children of Heber Andrew and Mabel (Ayres) Wade, she was born June 11, 1922, in East Newbern. She grew up on the family farm in Jersey County and attended Irene School, a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Jersey Township High School. She attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale for one year before returning home and working at Western Cartridge Co. in East Alton during World War II. Soon after that, she obtained a civil service job, requiring her to move to St. Louis, where she met her future husband, Edgar Guy Sunn. They were married on May 12, 1951, and made a life together in St. Louis, raising their two daughters. He died Sept. 16, 1989. During her time in St. Louis, she was employed as a switchboard operator for St. Louis University Hospital for 20 years before her retirement. She enjoyed cooking Chinese food, flute music by Galway and was an avid reader. However, she will be remembered most as a devoted mother and grandmother.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Laura Sunn and Leonard Konstantinoff of Pleasant Prairie, Wis.; two granddaughters, Sarah Bush of New Haven, Conn., and Katerina Konstantinoff of Pleasant Prairie; a brother, Charles Wade of Jerseyville; and six sisters, Virginia Wendt of Macomb, Mabel Plume of Wilmington, Laura Jamieson, Mary Stillar, Ruth Cook and Ida May Pickel, all of Jerseyville.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Grace Sunn Bush, on July 1, 1999; four brothers, Robert, Everett, Lee and James Wade; and three sisters, Esther Yocum, Florence Butler and Irene Sample. Graveside services were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Rev. David Brown of the Dow Southern Baptist Church officiating. Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville was in charge of arrangements.

(13a) Heber and Mabel (Ayres) Wade's son - Robert Wade Sr., 68, formerly of Jerseyville, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, in Strafford, Mo., as a result of an automobile accident on Interstate 44. His wife, Oleta Aleta Wade, died a short time later from results of the accident and services will be conducted Wednesday in Miami, Okla. Born on Oct. 16, 1937, in McClusky, Ill., he was the youngest of 15 children of Heber Andrew and Mabel Esther (Ayres) Wade. After graduating in 1955 from Jersey Community High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1957, serving in England. After his discharge, he returned home and utilized his skills as a mechanic, obtaining employment with McDonnell-Douglas, Owens-Illinois, Olin and Laclede Gas in St. Louis for 13 years. After relocating to Oklahoma in 1979, he began working at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City and returned to school, earning the credentials to become a licensed practical nurse as well as an emergency medical technician for Baxter Springs, Kan. Of his many activities, he was extremely proud of his 30-year involvement with the U.S. Navy Reserves, and most recently, his three-year stint with the U.S. Army National Guard.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Heber "Andy" and Deborah Wade of Jerseyville and Robert "Danny" and Christy Wade of Monroe, Wis.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and Larry Dobelbower of Bixby, Okla., and Lucinda "Cindy" and Mark Rich of Oklahoma City, Okla.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Wade of Jerseyville; eight sisters, Mary Stillar, Ruth Cook, Irene Sample, all of Jerseyville, Virginia Wendt of Macomb, Helen Sunn, Laura Jamieson of Jerseyville, Joyce Plume of Wilmington, and Ida Mae Pickel of Jerseyville; and his former wife and mother of his four children, Bonnie Wade, of Warrenton, Mo. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Florence Butler and Esther Yocum; and three brothers, Everett, Marion Lee and James Wade.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. J.P. Vilaire officiated. Burial, with military rites conducted by the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492, followed at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the American Legion color guard or to the Jerseyville Church of the Nazarene.

(1a) Ernest and Freda (McCoy) Ayres's son - Everett Zadock Ayres, 72, died at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Memorial Medical Center in Belleville. He was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Otterville, a son of the late Ernest and Freda (McCoy) Ayres. For 30 years he worked on the railroad as a carman and retired from Conrail in 1982. In addition, he also operated a landscaping business in Belleville for many years. As a young man he enjoyed the outdoors and hunting and will be missed by his family as well as friends. He married the former Levetta Weller May 31, 1947, and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Their union brought five children and their spouses, Ernest and Barb Ayres of Jerseyville, Everett and Joyce Ayres of Highland, Margaret and James Keck of Highland, Delbert and Rebecca Ayres of Collinsville and Brenda and Paul Niemaczek of O'Fallon; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Jeanette and Bryan Wildermuth of Highland, Jennifer and Jason Patterson of Bement, Kristina and Andy Cooksey of Highland, Jason and Rebecca Ayres of Godfrey, Joshua and Jennifer Ayres of Edwardsville, Jessica Daniels of Collinsville, Hannah and Matthew McKittrick of Highland, Caleb Ayres of Highland, Jeremiah and Kyle Niemaczek, both of O'Fallon.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Hazel Wallace of Alton, Vernon and Mildred Ayres of Grafton, Raymond and Connie Ayres of Jerseyville, Juanita and Ed Garrett of Virden, Grace and Hap Oliver of Jerseyville, Phyllis and Gary Haynes of Jerseyville and Mary and Ronald Cresswell of Elsah. He was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Keith Everett Keck; a brother, Harold E. Ayres; and two infant sisters, Marita and Emma Ayres.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday. His son-in-law, James Keck, officiated. He was laid to rest in Noble Cemetery in Otterville. Memorial gifts may be given to a local hospice in care of the funeral home.

(3a) Ernest and Freda (McCoy) Ayres's son Vernon Leslie Ayres was born in Jersey County, IL. He married Mildred Lee Bridges 11-1-1947 in Jersey County, IL. His wife - Mildred Lee (Bridges) Ayres, 77, died at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004, at Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton. She was born July 2, 1927, in Jersey County to Henry and Bertha (Loellke) Bridges and attended Jersey County country schools as a young girl. At the age of 20, she married Vernon Ayres on Nov. 1, 1947, at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville. The have shared the past 56 years together. She had been employed at Owens-Illinois in Alton for 25 years, until the plant closed. She spent her spare time enjoying her family, needlework, crocheting and crossword puzzles.
Surviving are her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Denzel C. and Naomi Ayres of Ashland, Ky., and Donald and Linda Ayres Sr. of Grafton; nine grandchildren, Sheri Hutchens and Sheila Blasa, both of Jerseyville, Denzel Ayres of Ashland, Ky., Donald Ayres Jr., Darran Ayres and Dwayne Ayres, all of Grafton, John Crader of Ashland, Ky., Bill Crader of Lutesville, Mo., and Steven Crader of Marble Hill, Mo.; 17 great-grandchildren; and her only surviving sibling, Bernice Roland of Jerseyville. She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Jeffrey Scott Ayres, on Sept. 24, 1998; a sister, Ethel Waters; and two brothers, Howard and Floyd Bridges.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Joy Settles officiated. Burial was at the Noble Cemetery in Otterville. Memorials may be given to the Otterville Southern Baptist Church or to the Noble Cemetery.

(1a) Clarence Herbert and Grace (Wrigley) Ayres's daughter - Ruth Loretta (Ayres) DeSherlia, 88, formerly of Jerseyville, died at 9:35 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. She was born Aug. 6, 1914, in Otterville to Clarence Herbert and Grace (Wrigley) Ayres. Her first marriage was to Clarence F. Hughes and her second marriage was to Adam DeSherlia. Both are deceased. She was a homemaker and had worked in the laundry department at the Alton State Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Gary Sewing of Litchfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Gordon F. and Sharon Hughes of Sarasota, Fla.; four grandchildren, Beth, Gordon, Jennifer and Jason; two great-grandchildren, Chris and Ashley; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Kathleen Lane and Charlotte Davenport, both of Jerseyville, and Barbara and Lavonne Krummblebein of Godfrey. In addition to her parents and husbands, preceding her in death were a sister, Dixie Lane, and three brothers, Floyd, Alvin and Ralph Ayres. There was no visitation. Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Thursday at Scenic Hill Cemetery in Grafton, with the Rev. Clyde Shaw officiating. Ruth Loretta (Ayres) Desherlia's husband - Adam H. Desherlia, died 03-14-1983. Adam H. Desherlia, 69, of Rural Route 4, Jerseyville, former Sheriff of Jersey County and Grafton Chief of Police, died Monday March 14, at St. Anthony hospital, Alton. He was born January 21, 1914 in Deer Plain, the son of the late Stephen & Anna (Besaw) Desherlia. He served in the US Army during WW II in the European theatre. He was Chief of Police of Grafton for 10 years, served as Sheriff of Jersey County for 1 term and was a Deputy Sheriff for 8 years. He retired in 1976. He was a member of the Illinois Sheriff Association, Illinois Police Association, American Legion Post 492; Veterans of Foreign War Post 4528, Jerseyville Masonic Lodge and a member of First Presbyterian church in Jerseyville.
He married Ruth (Ayers) Desherlia November 4, 1978 in Jerseyville. She survives as do 3 Daughters, Beverly Greenlee and Dottie May Koenig, both of Jerseyville and Henrietta Klunk of Kane; 1 stepson, Gordon Hughes of St. Charles, Missouri, 1 stepdaughter, Mary Beth Sewing of Mt. Olive; 8 grandchildren, 3 g-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Services were held at Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Simon A. Simon officiated, with burial in Scenic Hill cemetery Grafton. A Masonic service was held by Lodge 394 AF & AM. Memorials may be given to Illinois Sheriff Assoc.

He married Hazel Mae Russell 12-10-1938 in St. Charles, MO. His wife - Hazel Mae (Russell) Ayres, 81, died at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at Jersey Community Hospital inJerseyville. She was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Jersey County, one of three children born to Andrew Justice and Alice (Kirchner) Russell. With the exception of working at Jersey Community High School for a few years, she enjoyed being a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She married Ralph Ayres on Dec. 10, 1938, in St. Charles, Mo., and they shared nearly 44 years together before his death April 20, 1982.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Naomi and Lambert Hagen of Jerseyville and Patricia Phillips of Taylorville, Ill.; six grandchildren, Vicki Turvey of Taylorville, Sue Cates of Fieldon, Jeff Phillips of Newburg, Md., Ryan Phillips of Taylorville, Tony Hagen of Jerseyville and Holly Karsteter of Covington, Ky.; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Earl Russell of Fieldon.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Richard A. Phillips, and a brother, Everett Russell. Visitation were from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home (Jacoby Chapel) in Jerseyville, where services were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the Parkinson's Foundation.

She spent her adult life as a homemaker and a loving mother. After her children were raised, she became a cook at West and East Elementary in the Jersey Community Unit School District. She retired in 1988.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Sharon Devening of Jerseyville and Kathy and Charles Jones of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger Lane of Fulton, Mo., and Terry and Jill Lane of Godfrey; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and three sisters, Charlotte Davenport and Leota Wittman, both of Jerseyville, and Barbara Krummelbein of Alton. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dixie Lane and Ruth DeSherlia; three brothers, Alvin, Ralph and Floyd Ayres; a son-in-law, Robert Devening; and a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Lane. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 1, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2. The Rev. Clyde Shaw will officiate. Kathleen Roberta (Ayres) Lane's husband Delbert Lane's obituary - Delbert Lane, 84, died at 1:53 a.m. Monday, July 8, 2002, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home. Born in East Prairie, Mo., on Sept. 30, 1917, he was the last surviving child of Abe and Cordie (Pullum) Lane. He married the former Kathleen Ayres on March 7, 1947, in Jerseyville and she survives. A member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville, he was employed as a mechanic at International Harvester in Jerseyville for 40 years, retiring in 1980.
In addition to his widow, surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Robert Devening of Jerseyville, Kathy and Charles Jones of Fort Worth, Texas, and Patsy and Bill McNear of Alton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Mary Ann Lane of Fulton, Mo., and Terry and Jill Lane of Woodlands, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Depper and Juanita Thomas, and four brothers, Orlen, David, Audris and Leonard Lane. Her husband - - The Rev. Orlen Lane, 83, pastor of the Union Forest church near Otterville, died at 7:29 pm wed, 29 Jan. 1992 at Jersey Comm. Hospital in Jerseyville after a brief illness. He worked for the Democrat News in Jerseyville for 18 years, retiring in 1970, and had served as pastor of churches in Pleasant Hill and Decatur. Born at East Prairie, Mo., on 15 July 1908, he was a son of the late Abraham and Cordie (Pullings) Lane. On 14 Apr. 1929, he married the former Dixie Ayres. She died 15 Feb. 1991.
Surviving are two sons, Donald and Robert Lane, both of Jerseyville; two grandchildren; a great grandchild; and two brothers, Delbert and David Lane, both of Jerseyville. Preceding him in death were two sisters, Juanita "Peg" Thomas and Lillian Depper; and two brothers, Audris and Leonard Lane. The body will be cremated. Memorial services are at 4 pm Sun. at the Gospel Assembly church in Jerseyville, with the Rev. Clyde Shaw officiating. Memorials may be given to the Gospel Assembly church, where he was a member. Orlen and Dixie (Ayres) Lane's son - Donald Ray Lane, 72, died at 5:17 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis County. A son of Orlen "Dago" and Dixie (Ayres) Lane, he was born Sept. 16, 1931, in Jersey County. He and the former Edna Waters were married Oct. 26, 1957, in Godfrey. She died Jan. 5, 1981. The U.S. Army veteran served in the Korean War and was owner and operator of Lane's Appliance in Jerseyville. He retired after 35 years with Helmkamp Construction Co. in Wood River. The retired Teamster was a member of Jerseyville Masonic Lodge 394, Ainad Shrine Temple in East St. Louis and Teamster Local 525 and served as shop steward.
Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jean Lane of Jerseyville, and a nephew, Danny Lane of Tyler, Texas. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents. At his request, the body was cremated. Visitation was from 4 p.m. until memorial services at 7 p.m. Friday at the Gospel Assembly of God Church in Jerseyville, where he was a member. The Rev. They had 2 children who died in infancy, Laura Jean Ayres died in 1935, and Daniel Ayres Jr. died in 1936, and they are both buried in East Newbern Cemetery, Misissippi Township, Jersey County, IL. I don't have information about their other children. They lived in Jersey County, IL and in Port Richey, FL.

(1a) Immanuel and Ada (Darr) Ayres's daughter -- Coila Lee (Ayres) Cairns, 65, died unexpectedly of an apparent heart attack at 6:22 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, in the emergency room of Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. Born March 5, 1935, in Alton, she was a daughter of the late Immanuel N. and Ada J. (Darr) Ayres. She grew up on a farm near Otterville and attended the Hamilton Primary School. After graduating in 1953 from Brighton High School, she married Thomas E. Cairns Oct. 2, 1953, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Brighton. He survives. After rearing her children, she attended Lewis and Clark Community College and J.B. Johnson Career Development Center and obtained her licensed practical nurse license. For 19 years, she worked the midnight shift at Jersey Community Hospital, retiring in February 2000.
In addition to her husband, surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Trudy Cairns of Jerseyville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Layton Peddicord of Greenville and Peggy and Steve Hall and Melissa and Brett Beauchamp, all of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren, Sara, Heather and Emily Cairns, Andrew and Rebecca Peddicord, Rachel and Christine Hall and Olivia Beauchamp; and three brothers, Norman Ayres of San Antonio, Texas, James Ayres of Fosterburg and David Ayres of Wood River. Visitation was from 3 to 7 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the Paradise Baptist Church, on Grange Hall Road, east of Jerseyville, with the Rev. Stan Hunt officiating. Burial was in Noble Cemetery in Otterville. Memorials may be given to the Cairns family or to Paradise Baptist Church.

(2a) Lee Roy and Frezia (Stoeckel) Ayres's son - Junior B. "Lefty" Ayres, 80, died at 12:25 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at V.I.P. Manor in Wood River. He was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Jerseyville to Lee Roy and Frezia (Stoecker) Ayres. He married Laverna Baker in August 1942 in Alton. She survives. He retired after 33 years of service as a salesman for Wonder Bread and later worked for Wedge Bank for 15 years. He was a past precinct committeeman for the city of Alton. The U.S. Army veteran served in World War II in the Panama Canal Zone and was a member of the Alton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1308 and Alton American Legion Post 126. He was also a member of Alton Eagles Aerie 254, Teamsters Local 525, Upper Alton Baptist Church and Western Star Lodge No. 1 I.O.O.F., where he was a recipient of his 50-year pin. He will be remembered for his love to his family and favorite past-times of baseball, softball, bowling, fishing and hunting. He served as the baseball chairman for American Legion Post 126 from 1972 until 2002, and recently a batting cage at Gordon Moore Park was dedicated in his honor.
In addition to his wife, surviving are a daughter, June Naugle of Holiday Shores; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bowen Ayres of Rosewood Heights, Dr. David and Nancy Ayres of Wood River; a foster son, Dr. Dai Ping of Saline, Mich.; three grandchildren, Sheri and Rocco Ameduri, Clay Naugle; foster grandchildren Alicia Ping, Jessica and Kevin Mills, David and Karen Ping, Mary and Joshua Hipsher; two great-grandchildren, Tara and Vincent Ameduri; a brother and sister-in-law, Louis and Harriett Ayres of Alton; a sister, Dardanella Boker of Alton; and other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth Woodman; and a son-in-law, Robert Naugle. Junior B. "Lefty" and Laverna (Baker) Ayres's daughter June (Ayres) Naugle's husband - Robert Eugene Naugle, 61, died at 6:18 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born Jan. 31, 1941, in Harrisburg, he was a son of Helen R. (Bryant) Brooks of Godfrey and the late Gerald Naugle. He married the former June Ayres March 31, 1962, in Alton. She survives. The owner/operator of Holiday Marine Sales for 31 years, he was also retired from Laclede Steel.
Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Clayton and Sheryl Naugle of Moro; a daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Rocco Ameduri of Holiday Shores; two grandchildren, Tara Ameduri and Vincent Ameduri; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Harry Nevlin of Godfrey; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Patricia Naugle of Queensland, Australia Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Bethalto, where funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday. Revs. David Olson and Jeffrey Heil officiated. Burial was at the Masonic Cemetery in Raleigh.
