My Pets

This is a page of all of my animals. While the list is moderately long, I reassure you once again that I have extensive knowledge on each and every one of my animals, and would never buy an animal on impulse! I always make sure to research my pets extensively before I buy them. There are also links to various care sheets about certain animals.

I have 1 cat, both females:

Sadly, Dolly had to be put down, a few days after Thanksgiving.

Dolly is a 16 year old, all black, domestic longhair.
Her nicknames are: Black Rat(given by my dad) & Dolly-kins.
Here is her story(as told by my mom): We got Dolly when I was 4 1/2 years old. My mom and grandparents were out garage sale shopping, and one lady had free kittens. It was a litter of 6 kittens, and Dolly was the only all black kitten. There were 2 orange and white kittens, 1 black and white kitten and 2 all orange kittens. Then there was Dolly. My mom fell immediately in love with her, as she was the only female kitten in the whole litter and my mom is a bit against male cats. There was another lady there who was interested in Dolly, so my mom had to act quickly. She picked up Dolly, and asked the lady if she could use her phone. The lady said,"Sure." and my mom hurried to call my dad. My dad, who didn't particularily like cats at the time, kept saying no. But, he made the mistake of saying the word "kitten" out loud, and my brother and I heard him. Well, that was the end of that, with 3 people begging for the kitten, he caved in and said yes. The End.

Sierra is a 2 year old, calico, domestic shorthair.
Her nicknames are: Brat Cat, Psycho-Cat, & Fat Cat.
Here is her story: Sierra was a graduation present from my ex-boyfriend. I had to beg and beg for my parents to say I could get a kitten. When they finally said yes, my ex-boyfriend and I jumped into the car, the next day, and went to a near-by petstore, after being turned down at the local humane society.(Because my parents went out of town the next day, and they said I had to have their permission even though I was 18, because I still lived in their house. Which meant that they either had to come in with me, or the humane society had to call and talk to them. Kind of impossible when they were in Wisconsin, huh?) Anyways, we went to the petstore, and I looked at their kittens. Sierra, sadly, was my second choice. My first being a longhaired tortoiseshell kitten, who turned out to be a male, and well you've read what my mom thinks of them! Then I saw Sierra. I told the worker that I wanted her and we paid(after showing my I.D.)and were on our way. On the way home, a GMC Sierra truck pulled out in front of us doing 100 M.P.H., and then decided to slow down to 45 on the highway. Well, since it was jam packed that day, we were stuck behind that truck. That is how Sierra got her name! The End.

I also have two birds:

Petey, a 1 year and 5 month old normal grey cockatiel.
Sex: male
Nicknames: Peterbird & Petey-baby-boy.
He doesn't really have a story, I just got him because my parents and I wanted a bird. He does, however, do some neat things.
Interesting behaviors: He can croak(like a frog)most of the song,"Jingle Bells" that is also how he "cusses" someone out. When he gets mad he croaks real loud at whatever or whomever made him mad. He can also whistle quite a few things, but the only one understandable as of now is the wolf whistle. He wolf whistles at anyone who walks in the front door. He also tries to say hello, but isn't quite there yet. He also does this to anyone who either walks in the door, or walks in the room(even if you have only been gone 10 seconds!). He also likes plain Cheerios, plain Chex cereal, and plain cornflakes. His favorite vegetable is broccoli and his favorite fruit is apple. If he doesn't like something, he throws it out of his cage and onto the floor.

In loving memory: Topaz, who was a 1 year old, cobalt blue male budgie. Tweety: who was my first budgie I ever had, a 2 year old, lutino, male.

Topaz's story: I got Topaz for my birthday from my parents. My mom and I were sent to the mall to get a scanner or a digital camera for my computer. Well, when I couldn't find a brand that I had heard of, we decided to look elsewhere. We were on our way to an electronics store, when we passed the same petstore that I got Sierra and Petey from. We decided to go in and look, but hadn't planned on buying anything. Well, then I saw Topaz. He was the only blue budgie in the whole group. I just had to get him. (He was, not the first budgie I had ever owned. I had a lutino budgie, when I was 13, named Tweety.) So home we went with Topaz, his cage, toys and food. Boy was my dad surprised when he saw Topaz! He had really been looking forward to that scanner or digital camera. But, he grew to love Topaz as much as the rest of us did.
Interesting behaviors: Topaz did some neat things too. Normal budgie behavior, but since my first budgie didn't do anything like Topaz, I thought it was neat and cute. Topaz used to climb upside down on his cage and would even eat that way too! He also sang some of the prettiest songs I had ever heard! Sadly, Topaz only lived to be one year old(I only had him for 6 months), when he died of a stroke.

Tweety's Story: I got Tweety, the summer before I was to start 7th grade. My mom and dad had told me that if I got good grades on my last two report cards, that I could get a pet bird(I had been begging them since I was in 2nd grade to let me get a bird.). So, I did and we went to go get Tweety. When we started for the petstore, I wanted a male canary. A bright orange one. But when we got to the petstore and my mom saw how expensive they were, she asked me if I would rather get a parakeet instead. I said, "Yes." and we went to look at them. Tweety was the only lutino in the whole group of parakeets, and I fell in love with him immediately. Sadly, I only had him for one year, when he died of a stroke. He didn't do anything weird, or even act like a normal budgie, he acted more like a canary. The only thing he would do all day was sing, and he never climbed upside down or anything like that. He was a canary trapped in a budgies body.

Jazmine, a 3 month old sun conure,
Sex: Female(the breeder's cousin/partner thinks so).
Nicknames: Jazz, Baby Jay, Jazzy-baby, *Batbird, *Bratbird & *J-bird (*=given by my dad).
Story: None, really. I just wanted to get a bigger type bird, but didn't want one the size of a macaw or cockatoo. So I decided on a sun conure. My parents also thought they were beautiful birds. So onto the `net I went, to search for breeder's nearby. I didn't find one nearby, but I found an excellent one all the same. He was very informative and went through a lot of trouble to get Jazz up here to me. Jazz is a wonderful, good natured bird, and it is all because of him and his cousin/partner.
Interesting behaviors: She climbs around on the top of her cage, upside down. She's very curious and will investigate everything! She loves Cheerios, Cornflakes & Chex cereal, the plain unsweetened kind. She is already trying to talk. She tries to say hello & uh-uh, when you say it to her. I usually say uh-uh to her when she nibbles too hard, so now when she nibbles hard, she tries to say it too. She often says it before I get a chance to say it to her. She also tries to say baby girl and hey Jay-Bird. The latter of which she screams whenever anyone makes noise at the other end of the house or tries to sneak in the front door! She does say hello and baby girl real clear now. She learned a trick. She has these stackable cups(it's a baby toy from Fisher PriceTM), and she will unstack them one at a time. Now we are working on stacking them. If she doesn't like something, she throws it on the floor of her cage. She drinks upside down and does just about everything upside down. She also will climb on her swing, climb up the poles(the one's that hang it from the top of the cage), and then slide down them spinning around as she does. Sometimes she will take a piece of food, like the birdy bread I make my birds, and then climb upside down, hang by one foot and eat it.

All of my birds are fed: Sun SeedTM seed mixture, Kaytee Rainbow ExactTM pellets, fresh fruits, fresh veggies, rice and pasta daily. Once a week they get baby food fruits, veggies or chicken.

Mr. Tidbits, my firebelly toad.
Age: unknown
Sex: male
Mr.Tidbits, has a 10 gallon 1/2 & 1/2 tank. A 1/2 & 1/2 tank is a tank that is half water and half land, although mine is divided up more like 60-40, 60%-water and 40%-land.
He gets a varied diet of: gut loaded crickets, red worms, small mealworms and he get handfed waxworms. I alternate them and feed him every other day. He loves waxworms the best, but they aren't good for him to be eating all the time, and the handfeeding is making him more and more tame. He no longer runs away when I open the cage top, but comes out(even from sleeping) to see if I have food for him or not.
His story: I got Mr.Tidbits from a local Exotic Animal, Bird & Reptile Show (you have to be careful at these and know what you are looking for and what a healthy specimen looks like. I have seen some sad specimens at these!). After having read a book about Frogs, Toads & Treefrogs, I was interested in these little guys. So I acquired 3 of them, with only one of them surviving the first couple of weeks. I now have one of the originals, and have had him for 2 months now. I take good care of him, obviously better care than the man selling them, and he is in good health.

Godzilla, collard lizard.
Age: Unknown
Sex: Male
Tank: Godzilla has a 29 gallon, desert terrarium.
Story: I got Godzilla at the same Exotic Animal, Bird & Reptile Show as Mr.Tidbits. I looked over the dealer's stock, and decided on the one he took out to show me they were tame. I chose this one, because he was the only one that jumped on the guys arm, the rest ran away. Godzilla is a very tame lizard, he loves to be handled(Remember: You should always wash your hands BEFORE and AFTER you handle any reptiles or amphibians!).
Interesting behaviors: Godzilla is kind of weird for a lizard, he and my cat Sierra are friends! Everytime he comes out of his flowerpot house, she runs up there and stares at him. He will go to the side that she is on, and paw at the glass, then she does it too. Then he tries to jump out of his cage, to be with her. Sometimes if he can see her tail move, he thinks it is food and lunges at the glass with his mouth open to bite it. Otherwise, he tries to get out and be with her.

20 Gallon High Terrarium:
Inhabitants:
Grey treefrogs-Velcro.
Sex: male.
Story: I found Velcro on my screen door. (Twizzler is no longer with me, her boyfriend ate her.) She(Twizzler) was a skinny little treefrog, who looked like she hadn't ate in days. I got out my fish net, b/c touching frogs isn't really recommended. Our oils that occur naturally on the surface of our skin can damage their skin, thus inhibitting their ability to breathe and drink water. I had nothing to keep her in at the time, and I couldn't bear the thought of her starving to death, so Twizzler lived in a plastic box that had once contained 5 lbs. of Twizzlers licorice. That is how she got her name. Since then(about a week ago), she has been eating fine and I found out that the reason she wasn't eating was b/c she had redleg. Putting her in a clean, moist environment cleared that up and just may have saved her life. She has a large appetite, even though she could sit on a nickel. Velcro(male), I also found on my screen door. I caught Velcro, because I am hoping to breed him and Twizzler. I want to breed them so that there will be captive bred grey treefrogs available at the local petstore. As of now there isn't, and specimens that do arrive there are usually ones that people have found and/or caught and tried to take care of themselves. Lack of knowledge on the new owners part is usually how they end up in the petstore. That and a person that is trying to make a quick couple of bucks, finds a couple treefrogs and sells them to the petstore. Either way, if they don't become available captive bred, the grey treefrog population will start to die out. I will make sure to create a page about the breeding of my treefrogs, but first I need to acquire a couple more pairs. Be sure to keep an eye out for my breeding page!

Names-Haven't named them, they all look the same.
Cuban Treefrog-1 male.
Name- Frog.
Rainbow Burrowing Frog-1 male.
Name-Blue

Flubber aka Ike(from South Park); Argentinian Horned Frog, aka Pac Man Frog.
Story: I got Flubber from the same Exotic Animal & Reptile Show as Mr. Tidbits and Godzilla. Flubber is a young frog, he is a little smaller than a quarter is around. Basically he could sit on a quarter, and still not cover all of it! He has a huge appetite, and will get very large. Females(I am glad that I don't have a female!), get as big as a salad plate, about 14 cm. Males are about half of that, but have been as big as 10 cm. Right now Flubber eats large crickets, same size as my collared lizard's crickets. But when he is larger, will have to move up to pinkies and after that adult sized mice and small lizards like green anoles.

My fish:
I have 2 Bettas(1 male, 1 female),
1 goldfish named Splash
29 gallon African Rift Lake Cichlid tank, housing 2 african lake cichlids: 1 Maylandia zebra black dorsal and 1 Maylandia zebra blue cichlids..
My cichlids are fed: HBH African Cichlid Attack pellets, Spirulina flakes and freeze-dried bloodworms.
The size of my cichlids range from: 1"-2", with the expected adult size being: 3 3/4"-4 1/2".
The temperature of the aquarium is: 78°-80° F.
