Our Little House in the Woods

In 1978 we built a shop and parked a 10 x 60 foot mobile home nearby to live in temporarily. We had a footing poured for a log house and began cutting and peeling logs. (This page isn't stuck; it takes a minute before the pictures begin to show.)

When we realized that lifting those heavy logs was going to be too difficult, we connected the mobile home to the shop. The connecting addition eventually grew full length of the mobile home. We pushed up part of the roof to make a craft/computer room, and dug out below to make a walk-in cellar at the back.

If you go around the end of the screened porch you arrive at the patio in the hidden garden corner.

The screened porch has glass windows that look out over the patio. At the far side of the garden (but not visible here) is a "white light tree" that is pretty after dark any time of year. The windows to the left are in the dining nook of the front entry; we put the Christmas tree here in December.

One summer Herb's brother Stanley helped us with some work on the outside of the house. Here are a couple "before" and "after" pictures at the back.

What do you do with an unneeded cement footing? Build a flower garden in it!
