My Arrival

My name is Ember, and I was 6-12 months old in this picture when I first came to Joel & Laine.   I'm mostly a border collie with a touch of spaniel.

The Hop-a-long folks picked me to be saved from the Oakland Animal Rescue.  I was at the vet's when the nurse pushed me out the door and into the hands of Laine and Joel.  I came out with my head down and my tail between my legs.

After a short walk, Laine held me in the back seat while Joel drove us home to Swiss Avenue where we made our new pack.  I think Laine is my "alpha wolf."

Laine and Joel established my first den in the kitchen.  When they would leave me, I would wait for them by the baby gates, whimpering a little at first.  I'm learning that they love me and they always seem to come back.

When they would come back, I get so excited to see them that we usually go outside right away.  Welcome to my outside territory.

We have fun together.  I like to lie under tables on my back, and look up.  Sometimes they say I look like a little black sheep, or a little wolf.

We go on lots of walks together, and I get to chase balls and run in Glen Park Canyon.  But the best thing in the world is sniffing dogs.   I'm going to get to Fort Funston soon, where dogs can run off-leash, and go down the cliffs to the ocean.  I don't know about getting wet in salt water, but I'll find out and tell you all about it.
