Taiwan

Taiwan, the name you see at the bottom of your modem? Maybe, but there's more to us than that. It's also where we live.

A small island in the Pacific, Japan in the north, The Philippines to the south. Go east about a thousand miles and you'll hit Hawaii. West is China, the unwanted wicked stepmother.

Although Taiwan functions as a democratic and independent country, it is not recognized as such by most other nations in the world. China still lays claim to Taiwan and views it simply as a "Renegade Province". Other nations, scared of upsetting China, won't officially acknowledge Taiwan's existence, calling Taiwan by the name of "Chinese Taipei" , which is rather insulting for the twenty one million citizens here.

We live in Kaohsiung, famous for its commercial port. Taipei is the capital, most entertainment is there. We are somewhat left out in Kaohsiung.

Taiwan has lots of high mountains and some beautiful beaches. It's not too expensive to visit. People are friendly. : ) So don't overlook Taiwan when you plan your next holiday.
