Dorothy M. Koontz

Dorothy M. Koontz - 1915-2009

Dorothy M. Koontz, 93, of Heathsville, Va., passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury.  She was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Kilmarnock, Va., which she joined in January, 2004 shortly after moving to the Mallard Bay Community to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Barry Kean.  She was preceded in death by her husband Norman C. Koontz, Jr.  She is survived by four daughters; Rosemary A. Fornadel and husband J. Steven of Lancaster, Pa., Virginia C. Ulsh and husband Richard of Anglewood, Fl., Kathryn Koontz Kean and husband Barry of Heathsville, Va., Marcia L. Hydrusko and husband Tom of Harnash, Co.; one son; Norman C. Koontz III of Salisbury, Md.; a brother, Ronald Igou and wife Faye of Friedens, Pa.; eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Kilmarnock, Va. on March 7th and burial took place at Springhill Cemetery, Shippensburg, Pa on Monday, March 8th.

John W. Locke - 1940-2008

John W. Locke, Jr., 68, a three year resident of Mallard Bay, and formerly of Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2008 of pancreatic cancer at his home.  John was born May 7, 1940 in Washington DC to the late Ruth Thorne Locke and John W. Locke, Sr. He received his B.S. from American University and was a CPA in DC, Maryland and Virginia.  For 30 years he had his own accounting practice, 27 years in Annapolis and 3 years in Mallard Bay.  He was a master mason and a member of East Gate Lodge No. 34 and Heathsville Lodge No. 109.  He enjoyed sailing, flying, earning his private pilot’s license in 1992, and shooting trap and skeet.  Survivors include his wife, Jane, of 44 years, one daughter; Karen Phillips and husband Tim of Georgetown, Delaware, one son; John W. Locke, III and wife Molly of Hamilton, Virginia, and two grandsons.

The funeral for John, was held at the Heathsville United Methodist Church, and was immediately followed by interment at the Methodist Church of Wicomico Church, Virginia on Monday, November 10, 2008.

John's wife, Jane, has requested that any memorial contributions be made to the Heathsville United Methodist Church for the Needy Family Fund, P.O. Box 86, Heathsville, Va. 22473.
