Here is the strait in the sunset it was the sunset on the 16th August 1981. You can see a little bit of Calabrian shore and on the horizon the Nebrodi mountains of Sicily. The two kids you see are Mara and Marco Verduci. When we were there we learned some Calabrian words teach them to :Apple-mela-puma( to be pronounced poomah) Boy-ragazzo-caruso (cahrroo-saw) as you can see they are quite different from Italian Standard.
The great singer Enrico Caruso born in Naples was to my opinion of Calabrian heritage.
Here you see the strait of Messina. This picture was taken in August 1981 early in the morning from the balcony of the house we rent. The town you can see far is Messina. Our house was very close to the shore or better it was on the shore! The little boats are the fishermen's ones. Larger boats are use to fish the swordfish. Look what a wonderful land Giovanni Laganą and other immigrants were compelled to leave to try his luck in America! Beautiful landscape don't give bread ...unfortunately...
