A Veterinary Technician (also known as a Veterinary Technologist and Animal Health Technician) can best be compared to a nurse (for animals). We are the Veterinarian's right hand (although they don't like to admit it ;). In a veterinary hospital, there are only two things a veterinary technician may NOT do:

1. A Vet Tech is not allowed to conduct surgical procedures unless directed by a veterinarian. This includes the extraction of teeth.

2. A Vet Tech is not allowed to make diagnostic or therapeutic decisions.

There are currently 5 colleges in Ontario that offer the Veterinary Technician Program:
