Red's Who

My interest in all things Who-related has increased dramatically over the last 10 years. Up until the summer of 95 I had not thought much about Doctor Who since I watched it as a child. Incidently the earliest Who I remember seeing was "The Armageddon Factor", when I was 4 years old. Then one day, a good friend of mine was talking about Doctor Who which made me remember how much I used to enjoy it as a child, and so I resolved to watch the stories being shown on UK Gold over the summer, and from the first I saw, "Planet of the Daleks", with Jon Pertwee as the Doctor, I was once again hooked on the show.

Since then I have increasingly got more and more interested, and now from having no Doctor Who books have now got all the original series novels, having cleared Cardiff, Coventry and Leicester of their second-hand collection of Who-books, in addition to having bought most of the reference books for the series and all the MA's. Now as you might guess I am in the process of buying the new BBC novelisations. As I read more, and see more episodes I am slowly gaining more knowledge of the show.

In the past there have been several references to Doctor Who in TV programmes including The Simpsons, as well as appearances by Who cast is other programmes. The most recent of these being Tom Baker in Little Britain and Monarch of the Glen, and Peter Davison in the Last Detective.

The greatest news is the fact that Doctor Who is now back on the air. The first of the new series has recently finished being broadcast on BBC1, and two further series have been commissioned. This new series has introduced Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor accompanied by Rose Tyler (Billie Piper). The end of this first series culminated with a regeneration scene, so the next series will star David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor.
