GEORGE'S STACK O' COMICS AND A POT O' COFFEE

WHERE'S GEORGE BEEN? Well, folks, it's like this: there hasn't been much good couch time with the ol' stack o' comics and pot o' coffee because of a lack of one of the items, and it ain't the coffee. I am priveleged to get my comics through a fine mail order service (I won't name them, but those of you who would like to play detective can go and find them in the favorite links section of this fine website). Anyhow, they've started this great new program where you get your April books before you get your March books. Then, in May you get your March books and your May books. Is that kooky fun, or what? As another bit of wacky hilarity on their part, you also have to take an educated guess at your running balance. I encourage everyone to take advantage of their wonderful service and tell 'em G sent you. I do have one thing to comment on, however, having recently read that Batman/Daredevil book, which is...
WHY THE HECK IS BATMAN SUCH A JERK? What is it that happens when creative types write Batman in these big team-up books? The world's greatest detective, the world's most resourceful super-hero, the super-hero whose best "super" attribute is his super smarts and super dedication becomes...a dumb jerk. "Stay away from me or Batman smash Daredevil", "Puny Daredevil not scare Batman" (or stuff real close to that) becomes typical Batman dialogue. I happen to think that Batman is self-assured enough that he wouldn't feel like he needs to beat the tar out of Daredevil just because. To be fair, even the guy who wrote the greatest Batman story of all, the inimitable Frank Miller, did much the same thing in the dreadful Batman/Spawn crossover. As a Todd McFarlane creation, we knew that Spawn was pleasant to look at but not too quick on the uptake, but there goes Batman right on over the edge again. "Batman crush Spawn" and "Batman mash Spawn's head with Batarang" become the height of witty banter. Come on, folks, let's see the real Batman in one of these crossovers. Ah, Batman/Captain America...good point...now that's more like it.

BACK WITH MORE WHEN THE MARCH BOOKS COME IN MAY!
