Biography

Elisar Cabrera has been working in the film business since the age of seventeen when on a trip to Los Angeles he worked as a production assistant on the set of the low budget feature film, Cool Blue, a love story starring Woody Harrelson in his feature debut. After working as a production assistant on several more feature films (both high and low budget) and learning more about the film-making process on the way, Elisar was soon working as a Producer's Assistant on two feature films, the fantasy thriller Soulmates and the romantic drama Love Is Like That under veteran indie producer Matt Devlen.

Returning to London, Elisar hoped to bring his American experience with him and stimulate commercial low budget film making in the UK. Looking to the States to kick start this drive to low budget film making Elisar teamed with Vista Street Entertainment, a production and distribution company based in Los Angeles who for several years had been making action and horror films for the US and Far East home video market.

The product of Elisar's collaboration with Vista Street was Demonsoul, a vampire thriller and the first film that Vista Street Entertainment has chosen to involve itself in outside of the United States. The film was premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival's New British Expo and has since played at the Manchester Festival of Fantastic Films, The Sitges International Festival of Fantasy Films and at the Raindance Film Festival.

In 1995 Elisar went on to follow Demonsoul with Virtual Terror, an anthology of three tales of terror told by Balthasar, the internet's first mutant child. Working as producer Elisar found four young British directors each of whom directed a story segment within the film. From this Elisar was hired by UK production companes Investors In Film to re-write their erotic thriller Entrapment and Trisector Pictures Ltd to co-create and co-write Tribes, a London take on the US’s Melrose Place.

Between 1995 and 1997 Elisar was the Head of Development & Acquisitions at the London based film & TV sales company High Point Films & Television where he instigated company acquisitions of programs such as UK cable operator Live TV’s daily soap opera Canary Wharf.

His most recent project Witchcraft X: Mistress Of The Craft will be released in the United States on home video in May 1999. Written and directed by Elisar and produced by Elisar and Jon Blay, Witchcraft X is a fantasy horror melding Dr Strange and The X-Files.

Currently Elisar is developing numerous film and television projects, both by himself and in collaboration with other writers and producers.

Elisar has been a member of the New Producers Alliance since its first year and currently sits on the Executive Committee. The NPA is an industry body that represents the interests of 1300 independent producers, writers and directors in the United Kingdom.

Producing aside, Elisar has been a reviewer for The Sci Fi Channel Europe’s SF Scene magazine show and is the 1997 Cartier 'Oh Hell' Champion (an annual charity card game tournament sponsored by the jewellers Cartier).
