Released on November 17, 1989, Disney's The Little Mermaid was the 28th full length feature film and was Disney's biggest opening animated film ever. It is also the last Disney animation film that they colored by hand. Ever since Beauty and the Beast, and every movie after that, the Disney animators use computers to color the cells.

The Little Mermaid won Academy Awards for Best Original Score and Best Song (Under the Sea).

Did you know Ariel is the one and only Disney heroine that has red hair?? Some people count Jessica Rabbit as a Disney heroine, but I am one that does not.

Based on Hans Christian Anderson's story, it is about a head strong sixteen year old mermaid (Ariel) that fell in love with a human, who happened to be a prince (Eric). Her father, King Triton, forbade any merpeople contact with humans. So Ariel went to the sea witch (Ursula) and got changed into a human for three days in exchange for Ariel giving Ursula her voice. Before the sun set on the third day, Ariel must get Eric to give her the kiss of true love. If Eric gave Ariel the kiss of true love, then Ariel would remain human forever. If not, Ariel would turn back into a mermaid and be the property of Ursula.

Now, I don't want to ruin the movie for you, so I will let you watch it for yourself.
