Runaway Train

Sully manages to have Cloud Dancing transferred back to the reservation near Colorado Springs, but robbers force the train to derail. Michaela returns to the clinic after her maternity leave but fears that the town may prefer having Dr. Cook, who's been running it while she's been away, as their doctor. Horace tries to come to grips with Myra's absence.

Having It All

Michaela has trouble juggling being a wife, mother, and doctor and considers turning her practice over to Andrew. Sully begins to feel neglected. The family prepares for Colleen's departure after she is accepted to a medical school in Denver.

Malpractice

After his son dies while in Michaela's care, a lawyer sues her for malpractice and wins an injunction that prevents her from practising medicine until her case is reviewed.

All That Glitters

Colleen's return to Colorado Springs for her birthday coincides with the arrival of a famous singer who tempts Colleen with an offer to become her travelling companion, an offer Colleen considers giving up medical school to accept.

Los Americanos

Soon after a Mexican American couple move to Colorado Springs, the husband is killed and the widow rejects all of Michaela's attempts at friendship. Grace and Robert E. consider formally adopting Anthony. Sully and Michaela choose god parents for Katie. The town searches for a new teacher after the Reverend decides to devote more time to the church.

Last Dance

Sully is offered a job in the newly created Yellowstone National Park. Brian tries to get up the nerve to ask a girl to the Sweetheart's Dance. Dorothy asks Cloud Dancing to help her with a book she is writing about Indians.

Right or Wrong

Preston and Jake try to out campaign one another as they each try to become the next mayor of Colorado Springs. Despite Michaela's objections, Sully helps a Pueblo Indian escape from the reservation. She is later jailed after she treats the Indian who was wounded in the escape.

Remember Me

The elderly prospector suffering from severe memory loss who stumbles into town turns out to be the father that abandoned Jake years ago.

Legend

After being shot by outlaws robbing Preston's bank, Matthew secretly tries to join forces with a U. S. marshall to track them down and prove to the town that he can be a good sheriff. Brian acts as matchmaker for Jake and the new school teacher, Teresa Morales.

Tempest

Preston tries to impress his father who has come for the opening of the new hotel. Michaela plans for Thanksgiving dinner but the whole family may not be able to be present. The town is hit by a tornado.

Separate But Equal

When they learn that Anthony is too advanced for the new Freedman's school, Grace and Robert E. decide to enrol him in the town school, a decision that is not welcomed by some of the townspeople. Hank and Jake try to lure customers away from Preston.

A Place To Die

Michaela works to determine why two patients have died and Dorothy has become violently ill after being treated in the clinic.

Season of Miracles

The reverend is forced to come to grips with the fact that he is going blind.

The Dam

Sully reluctantly joins forces with Preston to stop the building of a dam, but when their plans go awry, Matthew is forced to arrest Sully. Brian begins to feel neglected.

Farewell Appearance

Michaela's uncle Theodore arrives from Boston and almost immediately tries to replace his son, killed in the war, with Brian. The Reverend moves in with Loren and tries to come to grips with his blindness.

The Most Fatal Disease

Kid Cole and Sister Ruth stop in Colorado Springs on their way to San Francisco bringing with them a group of mail-order brides and the news that they plan to divorce when they reach their destination. After seeing Dorothy and Cloud Dancing together, Loren considers marrying one of the mail-order brides.

Colleen's Paper

Colleen returns home to work on a paper about Michaela's most memorable medical case. Andrew contracts spotted fever and is confined in the clinic. As both Colleen and Michaela tend him, they discuss several of Michaela's cases.

Between Friends

Sully's friend Daniel Simon comes for a visit, but Sully has to take a job out of town to earn enough money to pay a late mortgage payment. While he's away, Preston forecloses, prompting Daniel to pay off the entire mortgage. When Sully returns, he's outraged. Even worse, he learns that Daniel has actually fallen in love with Michaela. The townspeople shun Dorothy due to her relationship with Cloud Dancing. The Reverend becomes more accustomed to his blindness.

Hostage

Michaela, Brian, and Katie are held hostage at the homestead by two robbers while Matthew, Hank, Andrew, Cloud Dancing, and a wounded Sully try to rescue them.

The Body Electric

The townspeople are thrilled that Walt Whitman has accepted Preston's invitation to visit Colorado Springs until they learn more about his lifestyle.

Before the Dawn

After Horace tries to commit suicide, Michaela sends to St. Louis for Myra and Samantha in hopes that they can help him overcome his depression.

Starting Over

Michaela's sister, Marjorie, arrives for a visit. Once very prim, Marjorie is now a radical suffragette and freely expresses her opinion on how the inhabitants of Colorado Springs can improve their lives.

His Father's Son

A letter from his father, and his own feelings of being neglected, lead Brian to contemplate living with his biological father.

Moment of Truth - Part I

After Cloud Dancing is beaten by a soldier, Sully decides to help the Indians escape from the reservation.

Moment of Truth - Part II

After Sully helps the Indians escape from the reservation, Sergeant O'Connor returns to hunt him down. Some of the escaped Indians go on a rampage, damaging the jail and burning Teresa's home and Matthew's homestead.
