Man In The Moon
Toy Story 2
Galaxy Quest

Movie: Man In The Moon
Actors: Jim Carrey, Danny DeVito

Plot: The story of Andy Kauffman's rise to notoriety and misunderstood genius

Reaction: All I knew of Andy Kauffman was that he was this foreign guy who played on Taxi. The initial draw of this movie was that Jim Carrey was playing Andy Kauffman and I'd heard some good things about it. In actuality, Andy Kauffman was not the foreign little man that he portrayed on Taxi, he was a softspoken prankster who loved to incite crowds to bond together with emotion, even if it was negative. He liked pulling the strings; he liked controlling the crowd...this movie brings you to the heart and mind of the manchild that made a name for himself working on a sitcom he hated and then used the fame for his real enjoyment. Jim Carrey will probably win an Oscar for his portrayal; he deserves it.

Movie: Toy Story 2
Actors: Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, the same cast as before

Plot: With Woody and Buzz's toy rivalry well in their past, Buzz leads the toy troops to rescue Woody from the evil captor "Al" of Al's Toy Barn (modeled after Wayne Knight). Woody is the final piece of the Woody's Round Up Gang that are bound for a museum in Japan and after some convincing by Stinky Pete the Prospector (still in the box) and Woody's t.v. show sidekick (played by Joan Cusack), Woody decides that rather than outlive his usefulness as a toy, he'd rather be forever loved by throngs of museum goers.

Reaction: This was a great sequel from Pixar, some say better than the first--I would have to rate them almost equal. Watch for the old chess playing man from their animated short (appearing before a Bug's Life) to cameo as a toy repair man. The outtakes at the end will make you weep with laughter!

Movie: Galaxy Quest
Actors: Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen

Plot: A Star-Trekish cast are in-fighting and sick of making the convention rounds until one day head cheese played by Tim Allen is approached by actual aliens to help them resolve an intergalactic conflict. Believing the "Galaxy Quest" show to be actual historic records, the entire cast is beamed up to fight "Sora", a crustacean/Stallone creature.

Reaction: Actually a pretty good movie considering the mix of handyman Allen and alien-worn Weaver. There were several good laughs throughout and enough weird alien behaviours to keep the smile going.
