“Leah, tell me again why do I have to have tea party with stuffed animals?” a little boys complains as he sits down. “Please! Nick! The stuff animals don’t talk!” Leah replied as she puts small cup in front of Nick, her best friend. Their parents went to high school together, and Nick’s only a year older than Leah is. The two kids met when they’re only 10 months old, they have the same sitter went to the same school, living next door to each other! Nick’s going to be 9 soon and Leah just turned 8. “Here you go.” Leah said as she poured the ‘tea’, but it’s actually Pepsi. “Thanks!” Nick looked around, don’t want anyone catches him having ‘tea’ with a girl.

“Nicky and Leah, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-I-N-G!” a boy yelled as he throws a rock over the backyard door. It hit Leah on right on the head! Leah screams at the uninvited intruder. “Hahaha! Billy can’t spell kissing!” Nick yelled back, but the boy was long gone. “You okay?” Nick asked, removing a streak of hair from Leah’s forehead. “Oww!” Leah cried, Nick blows on the wound gently. “Thank you.” “Hey, Leah?” “Yeah?” “Promise me that you’ll marry me when we grow up!” Nick said, taking Leah’s hand into his, try to be as serious as possible. “Okay.” Leah said. “Promise?” Nick asked. “Promise.”

*~* 8 Years Later *~*

“I hope Nick will be at the airport.” Leah thought as she boarded the plane, she moved to New York with her dad when’s she’s 11, since it’s summer, she decide that she’s going back to Orlando to visit her friends.

“Nick should be 19 by now, I wonder if I can recognize him.” Leah and Nick never stop writing to each other. She still remembers Nick’s promise about he’s going to marry her. “Nick...” she thought as she takes out the silver necklace Nick brought her on her 10th birthday, suddenly, she realized that Nick IS the reason she came back, it’s not her friend nor her old neighbors, it’s Nick, the boy that she has fallen for 8 years ago! She’s been in love with him ever since that day he proposed to her in the back yard. She puts the necklace back to her pocket. Closed her eyes, lay back as the plane takes off.

“Nick!” Leah yelled as she saw a tall, handsome image of a guy at the corner. “Leah? Wow, you look so different.” Nick walks over, taking her bags. “So do you! How tall are you?” Leah looked up; Nick looks so dependable and trustworthy. “About 6’1, there’s someone I want you to meet, she’s really important to me, Angela!” Nick waved as a girl runs to their directions, she has long black hair with layers, and she puts them up with some butterfly clips. She has big, oval dark brown eyes; she’s about 5’5. “Hi, I’m Leah, I don’t believe we’ve met.” Leah reached out her hand, somewhere in her heart she pray that she’s just a friend of Nick’s, who gave him a ride. The two girls shook hands. “This is my best friend Kristin, and this is my girlfriend Angela.” Nick introduces them, didn’t notice the shock and heartbroken look on Leah’s face.

“Need help?” Angela said as she takes one of Leah’s bags from Nick. “I got it, it’s heavy.” Nick smiled at her, watching all them, tears start to form at the corner of Leah’s eyes. “Let’s go.” Nick said, Leah quickly wipes the tears away as they speed off. Nick dropped Angela off at her house. “So, how long have you guys been going out?” Leah asked, try to hide the sadness in her voice. “About 3 years, we met in high school.” Nick replied, staring straight at the road. “And you didn’t tell me in ANY of your mails?” Leah asked accusingly. “Awww, is that why you’re acting so weird today? I’m sorry, but I want it to be a surprise.” Nick said as he pulls into the garage. “It’s a ‘surprise’ all right.” Leah thought to herself.

“Here’s the guest room, my room is right next to it, if you need anything, just ‘scream’!” Nick laughed, making a spooky face. Leah tries to squeeze out a smile, but failed. “You okay?” Nick asked concerned. “Yeah, just tired, good night.” Leah tries hard to think, but her eyelids starts to get heavier as she drifts off to sleep. “Wake up, lazy bones!” Nick yelled though the door. “I’m up.” Leah opens the door after 5 second. “Oh, okay then.” Nick said while making 2 peanut better jelly sandwich. “Breakfast is served.” Nick hands her one of the sandwich. “Why, thank you. Ma’am.” Leah giggles as she sees Nick in an apron. “Don’t start with me.” Nick warned as Angela enters the kitchen. “Well, well, well, don’t you look cute!” Angela teased as she took the sandwich away from Nick. “Give it back! I need food!” Nick yelled as he chased her around the room. Can’t stand seeing any of this, Leah retreat to her room. “I’ll call Jill.” she thought as she picks up the phone to call her best friend.

“Yeah?” “Hey, it’s Leah!” Leah said happily as Jill picks up the phone, she’s been trying to reach her all day! “What’s up? Have you talk to Nick? What did he say? Does he love you? Do you...” “No, he has a girlfriend.” Leah said sadly, stopping her friend’s endless questions. “What? Did he forget his promise?” “I guess so, what should I do? I can’t stand seeing him and that girl Angela!” “Go and tell him! Tell him how you feel about him, ask him to choose!” Jill suggested. “No, I’ll make a total fool out myself!” “Do you have any plans besides just sit there and cry?” “No, but what if he doesn’t love me more than a friend?” Leah’s getting all tensed up. “Then you must take your chances.” Jill sighed, feeling sorry for her friend. “Yeah, I guess so, but....” she was interrupted by the knock on the door. “Hi!” Nick stuck his head in. “Hey, Jill, I’ll call you later.” Leah hangs up the phone.

“What’s up?” Leah said happily. “Well, Angela just left for work, let’s go grab something to eat?” Nick asked, putting a hand over his stomach, pretending to be starving to death. “What happened to your sandwich?” “Angela ate it, she needs some food to help her get though the day.” Nick said, laughing. “All right then, let’s go!” Leah jumped up, grabbing her jacket as they head out the door. “How long are you staying in town?” Nick asked while taking a sip of his coke. They’re sitting at the nearest fast food restaurant. “I don’t know, how long do you want me to stay?” “As long as you wish!” Nick shoved a fry in his mouth. “I see you still like junk food!” Leah teased.

“I have to talk to you about something.” Leah pulled Nick out restaurant. “NO! My food!” Nick screamed playfully as they walk into a park. “What’s your meaning of the word love?” “Why? Oh, I get it, Leah’s in love!” Nick chanted. “Just answer the question!” Leah turned bright red. “I’m in love with you.” Leah thought, hating herself for having no guts to tell him. “I guess love is something that you can’t see, but you can feel. I mean once you got the feelings for someone, it’s hard to explain.” Nick sighed. “Try.” Leah encouraged him, but deep in her heart, she doesn’t want to hear it. “It’s like you have someone to wake up to in the morning, someone that you care so deeply that you’re willing to give your life for that special someone’s happiness. You wouldn’t care about the past! You just want to be with him/her.” Nick explained. “Do you think I can find someone like that?” Leah looks deep in Nick’s eyes. “Yeah, I mean, you’re smart, pretty, funny, sweet, and so considerate for people. You’ll find that someone you love, and he’ll love you just like you love him, just like me and Angela.” “I guess so.” Leah sobbed; realizing that Nick loves Angela, not her! “What’s wrong? Did I do or say something to upset you?” Nick asked, worried. “No, there’s something in my eyes.” Leah lied, but she can’t stop the tears running down her face. “Let’s go home, you look like you need some rest.”

Nick leads her back to the car, still worry if he has done something to upset her. “I’m leaving tomorrow morning.” Leah whispered in the car. “What? You just got here yesterday!” “I have a summer job and I have something very important to finish back New York.” Leah mumbles. “You have a boy friend over there, don’t you?” Nick grinned, Leah just nodded, not saying a thing as they went back to the house in silence. “Bye, Leah, hope to see you next year!” Angela gave Leah a big hug as Leah checked in. “Bring your boy friend next time!” Angela smiled. “Sure, I’ll be happy to do that.” Leah smiled dryly. “Bye! Safe journey!” Nick and Angela waved; Leah walked to the gate without looking back. “Do you think she’s homesick?” Angela asked as they left the airport. “No, she just miss her boy friend.” Nick laughed while taking Angela into his strong arms. Looking out the window, seeing the clouds outside in the beautiful sky. Leah feels that tears were forming at the corner of her eyes. “Bye, Nick.” She whispered suddenly a thought pop in her head. “What can you do when the someone that you’re deeply in love with is deeply in love with someone else?” it’s a question that no one can ever give a correct answer to………
