This Means War

The boys and the whole nation sat quietly in front of the TV. This was it, the lottery that would change some's lives. It was not a money lottery like usual. It was a national lottery choosing who would go to fight in WW III and who would not. There will be 2,005 names of men and women over the age of 18 in addition to the pre- picked 2,445 army personnel. Kevin suddenly looked up from his trance of watching the president's speech being replayed from just 2 days ago.

"Guys, this is scary. I mean, what if one of us gets picked or we all get picked except one. I don’t think I could be without you guys." "Awww, how sweet!" Brian said, wiping away and imaginary tear. Everyone glared at Brian. "Sorry… you know I make jokes when I--" Bran was cut off by the TV. "The names will now be drawn. If your name is called please report to the nearest U.S. Postal Office. If you have a disability still go to the Postal service and we will find a replacement. And the 1st name is…." The boys practically stopped breathing in anticipation.

(The following names are FAKE (except the boys)… I just made them up…except for Bridget and what I said about her is TRUE (Except about the ex-g/f part. She doesn't know BSB)"Julia Sneffenhoff, Jamestown, NY; George Jackston, Fall Heights, Alabama; Jon Veresempke, Seattle, Washington; Bridget Anderson, Medford, Oregon." The boys all glanced at Howie at the mention of the name. Bridget was his ex-girlfriend who was one of those types who think they're God's gift when they are God's shit. The really bitchy, I'm a queen attitude. Howie just shrugged "Jo Ann Krumpler, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; Brian Littrell, Orlando, Florida." Everyone looked over at Brian, who had a shocked look on his face. "Well at least I…umm…oh I can't even make a joke!" Kristina Matley and her 2 friends, Brittany Girard, and Krystal Avery gasped at hearing this name. "No, not Brian!!" Krystal said in almost a whisper, "THE Brian, Brian Littrell, BSB Brian, my Brian!" The guys and the girls turned back to the TV. "Jenna Neilson, Grants Pass, OR; Ned Lowland, Aurora, OH; Alexander James McLean, Kissimee, FL;" AJ let out a small cry "NO!" "Jonathan Keldin, New York, NY; Kevin Richardson, Orlando, FL." Kevin looked at Donna to see if what he heard was right. "I'm sorry!" Donna said, already in tears. Kevin just turned back to the TV without saying a word. "Kristina Matley, Astoria, Or" Kristina started crying. "Why me? I didn't do anything to deserve this!! Only turn 18!" Brittany and Krystal turned to comfort Kristina. "No one deserved this! It'll be ok, you are going to make it!" "You don't know what it's like!! Knowing you're going off to get killed in a stupid war because men run this earth and they are too bone headed to talk things out!"

Krystal and Brittany sighed, Kristina always put the blame on someone when she was upset. Like when her mother died in a doctor's arms. Kristina never went to a doctor until 10 years later, which was just recently and it was hard. "Chuck Veringburg, Houston, TX; Josh Locke, Kenston, GA; Howard Dorough. Orlando, FL." The list went on as the boys glanced at Nick with envy in their eyes. Nick sat, very uncomfortably, know in he hadn't been picked and they were down to the last few. "And the last 3 names until 2 weeks where we will draw again for replacements for the disabled. Krystal Avery, Albany, Or.; Brittany Girard, Portland, Or. And Nick Carter, Ruskin, Fl. Please report to the nearest U.S. Postal office as soon as possible if your name has been called. I repeat, if you have been--"

Kevin flicked off the TV. Nick couldn't handle it anymore and stared into space as silent tears rolled down his face. No one said anything for a moment, until Howie spoke. "Well...uhh...I guess...uhh.. we should…should go to the post office and stuff like that, I guess, yeah." Meanwhile…..

Krystal, Brittany and Kristina sat there crying. Over 2 things: The fact that they had been picked and the fact that the Backstreet Boys were picked. The boys made their way to the post office in Orlando while the girls went to Portland.
