The next week we never left each other except for when we showered or went to bed…but we never left each other before so it wasn't that much of a difference. "Hey, let's walk down to the beach." "Okay." Bethy and I walked down to the beach and sat. We both just looked out at the ocean, seeing the reflection of the stars in the waves. She leaned up against me and I put my arms around around her waist. "Nick…" "Hmm?" I said, breathing in her hair. "I just wanted to tell you this, when I'm dead and gone, don't hang on to me, move on and find other people. Promise?" "Uh…" I said, it was a little of a weird question, "Yeah, I promise. I love you." "I love you too. I'll love you forever." She smiled. We just sat there in silence. I looked down and saw that she fell asleep with the smile still on her face. I picked her up and carried her back to her house. Amy, Bethy's mom, answered the door. "Hey, Bethy fell asleep." I said and Amy grabbed Bethy's wrist, she got tears in her eyes but they cleared. "Thanks." She said and took Bethy then shut the door. I thought it a little odd but just went back across the street, to my house.
The next day I walked over to Bethy's house. Amy answered the door again, her eyes were puffy, like she had been crying. "Hey, can I talk to Bethy?" She burst into tears, "Oh Nick, didn't you know?" "Know what?" "Bethy…she had a disease that they found in her blood, there are no outside symptoms, no cure. Bethy, you thought she fell asleep but she died." She said and at that moment everything stopped. "That's not funny, mom (she was my 2nd mom so I called her "mom" too), you really scared me!" "I'm not joking, Nickolas." "NO! It's not possible! We were sitting there, talking and smiling and kissing and then she just died, in my arms! NO! No! no…" I said, shouting ,then in a whisper. "I know how you feel, dear. I know." Amy said, not thinking of herself. "NO! You don't! AT LEAST YOU KNEW! YOU KNEW SHE WAS GOING TO DIE, I HAD NO IDEA!!! YOU DO NOT KNOW!! YOU DON'T!" My real mom walked into the house, hearing me scream. I picked up a stack of papers and threw them all on the floor. "IT'S NOT TRUE! IT IS NOT! She is alive, and I'm gonna go to her room and I'm gonna find her there, waiting for me and I'm gonna make her laugh and smile! WATCH!" I screamed. My mom went to go after me, but Amy held her back, "Let him go, he needs to realize."
I walked up to her room and opened the door. I saw Bethy laying in her bed, she had the smile still on her face, she wasn't breathing. "Oh god,no. No…" I started crying, tears rolling one by one down my face. My knees buckled and I fell onto the floor. My heart felt like it was being torn into a million pieces, every little piece being ripped off and thrown to the floor. My girl friend, but most of all my best friend, since I was 3. And she was gone. Gone. Amy and my mom came up and saw me, tears rolling down my face, holding Bethy's hand. "Oh, sweetie. I'm so sorry." My mom said and held me. I cried and cried till there was no more.
The next month I was a zombie. The guys would drag me to clubs but all I could do was sit at the table and think about Bethy. 1 month later…. "Hey Frack, are you goin to come to the new club, Vibes, with us? We're leavin right now." Brian asked, hopeful. "Do I have much of a choice? You always drag me anyways." I said. "You got that right!" Brian said and took my hand. I laughed a little, I hadn't done that in too long. We went to the club. The minute we walked in I saw a girl that looked really nice but all I could do was think about Bethy. "Go for it!" I heard and a felt a pat on my back. I looked around, no one was there that I knew. Then I knew it was Bethy. I walked up to the girl and smiled, "Hey, my name's Nick."
