MY TRIBUTE TO MATTHEW MCCONAUGHEY

Matthew McConaughey is a versatile actor who exploded onto the screen in '96 with "A Time to Kill". Since then, he has starred in many hit movies, showing his acting talent and sweet Texan charm. He is not only a sight for women's sore eyes, but attracts male viewers too in his roles as a regular Joe, caught up a challenging situation.

BIOGRAPHY:

Matthew McConaughey was born November 4, 1969, in the small town of Uvalde, Texas. He's the youngest of 3 brothers, the oldest being Mike (45) and Patrick (39). His mom is Kathrine and his dad Jim, who played football in '67-68 for the Green Bay Packers passed away in '92. When Matthew was still quite young, his family moved to Longview,TX. His dad was in the oil business, which his brothers still are. His momīs a substitute teacher. He graduated from high school in 1988, where he played football and was voted "Most Handsome" (obviously!). He then spent a year in Australia where he worked helping a law firm (which has helped him play his characters in "Time to Kill" and "Amistad").He went on to study film direction at the University of Texas in Austin, from which he graduated in 1993.
Matthew got his acting start in commercials. The director of "Dazed and Confused" discovered him in 1992 and cast him in the part of the aging stoner. Matthew was still directing student films at UTx then. Soon, Matthew caught the eyes of other Hollywood directors with his sweet Texan charm and wit, and was cast in the lead role of the sequel to "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" in 1993. (Which was released under the name "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation"). Soon afterwards, Matthew was cast as Drew Barrymore's cop boyfriend in "Boys on the Side" also starring Whoppi Goldberg and Mary-Louise Parker. Matthew then played a baseball player in 1994's "Angels in the Outfield", a movie about an orphan seeing angels that help The Angels. In 1995, he played the main character in a short film "Judgement".After a part in the movie "Lone Star" in 1996 (that was in the same cop/murder mystery genre as "Judgement"), Matthew's talent caught Joel Schumacker's eye and he was cast in one of the leads in "A Time to Kill" in 1996. This assured Matthew's stardom, as he rose to the top with his great character acting ability, charm and good looks. Next up was "Contact" in 1997 in which he starred as the religious advisor Palmer Joss along with Jodie Foster. This is terrific movie, not only because of the wonderful special effects, but also because of the ethic questions surrounding the film in which Jodie's character makes contact with life on the star Vega.
Matthew's next films were Steven Spielberg's "Amistad" (`97), "The Newton Boys" (`98) and "Ed Tv" (`99). His most recent film is U-571 a World War II drama about an American submarine crew’s battle against time-and their own fears-while carrying out a daring mission to capture a top-secret encrypting device from a Nazi U-boat. It is a great action movie where Matthew excells.
Matthew`s movies from 2001-3 are "The Wedding Planner" with Jennifer Lopez,"Reign of Fire" as a dragon slayer, "Frality", "How to loose a guy in 10 Days" with Kate Hudson is his latest film, in theaters now.
Some other interesting facts about Matthew are that he's 5'11" tall, loves to play golf in his free time, has a lab-chow named Miss Hud, drives a new black BMW, recently quit chewing tobacco, and resides in Austin, TX (where he was arrested for playing the bongos naked partying too loud in fall '99!).
