 
In Titanic he plays Jack Dawson, a free spirited artist that travels the world drawing. By chance he gets a ticket on the Titanic. Once on the ship he falls in love with Rose (Kate Winslet) and in the end he gives his life for hers. He has been nominated for Golden Globe, and a contender for best actor. Leonardo has taken a break from acting since filming a small part in Woody Allen's forthcoming comedy Celebrity last fall, and has taken a trip to Cuba at the end of February as part of an unofficial artists' delegation that included, besides his parents, Alanis Morisette. He has made it clear that he plans to avoid, for now, roles in action extravaganzas for which Hollywood's top guns command top salaries.
