SERIES 8 RELEASE DATE!!!

The new series of Red Dwarf begins on THURSDAY 18th FEBRUARY 1999 . It will also be repeated on Sundays. It will be 7 episodes long, the first of which will be a 1 hour special. I saw this episode being filmed and you are in for a treat! The series will feature the usual cast including both Holly's, Rimmer and Kochanski.
Series 7 Video Releases
The whole of Series 7 will be available on Monday 29th March 1999. It will contain all 8 episodes plus the "Red Dwarf A-Z" as featured in the 10th Anniversary celebrations.

Re-mastering
All of Series 1-6 will receive a Star Wars-style make-over this year to update the visuals and make the show more consistent. Most of series 1-3 are now available. The re-mastering project will bring the following changes:

The soundtrack will be replaced with a new digital master.
Most of the special effects shots are being scrapped and re-filmed. Computer-generated graphics will replace some of the model shots.
Red Dwarf will have a slightly different look (more elongated and detailed).
Blue Midget (the smaller vessel used in Series 1-3) will have a radically different look: it will have have legs (like Starbug's) that will give it a spidery appearance, but Blue Midget will actually be able to walk on them. (The new and improved Blue Midget will play a major role in Series 8.)
All of Norman Lovett's Holly footage from Series 1 and 2 is being re-filmed.
Hattie Hayridge (as Holly) will introduce the Series 3-5 episodes in the same way that Norman Lovett did in Series 1 and 2.
A consistent set of opening titles will be used in all episodes.
Films
Following Series 8, the plan is to begin making Red Dwarf feature films at the rate of about one per year. The first movie reportedly has a budget of 15 million pounds. The cast will include Craig Charles, Chris Barrie, Danny John-Jules, Robert Llewellyn, Chloe Annett, and both Norman Lovett and Hattie Hayridge.
